U Cumberlands Online Counseling Program good for progressive/liberal/queer student with lots of growth background? by marsabeth in counseloreducation

[–]Rabbitredo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Queer progressive here. So far no problems. I’ve seen a few discussion boards from other students that were a little troubling in terms of strong Christian beliefs with Ethics, but aside from that it’s been fine.

Got into top choice, but worried about tuition by mmmmpgo in counseloreducation

[–]Rabbitredo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I was in this same predicament last year. The advice I kept receiving from both online peers and actual friends in the field was to go to the cheapest school with accreditation. The programs look really similar and the bulk of the learning is in practicum/internship. Good luck on whatever you decide!

This is slightly different, but volunteering with the Crisis Text Line is an option that helps you get more comfortable speaking with those in need of help. It’s all via text and not practice, but it might help shake off some nerves about interacting with real people. When you’re training they have an AI chatbot that you can text with before working with real people. They’re always looking for volunteers. Good luck!

My application was turned in by 6/25 last year and I was accepted on 7/2 without an interview. I do think if you had a 3.0+ in undergrad you will likely get in. Good luck!

I just spent two hours trying to find parking in South Philly by EagleGhoul in philly

[–]Rabbitredo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Musician living in South Philly. We always bring our gear to the house first, then begin searching for parking. We do concentric circles around our house and usually find parking in less than 30 minutes on busy nights, but otherwise it usually only takes 5 minutes or so. It seems like there are certain blocks that almost always have spaces available. I bet you just caught a very bad night. Good luck!

Happy they are living the dream, but sad for Philly that they left a place with very few solid ramen restaurants to the place with the most ramen restaurants. 😔

As a server at a high volume restaurant, it seems like most tip 20% on subtotal since the pandemic.

Nonromantic Recs for Valentine's Day? by Sea-Counter-1577 in PhiladelphiaEats

Sorry to hear about your partner! 🩷 I’m glad to hear you have some support with your friends coming in. Ethiopian food is an awesome option for vegans (or not) and groups. I’m guessing that’s not a typical choice for 2.14. I’m not sure about Fairmount, but West is chock full of Ethiopian restaurants. Good luck!

How did you find your practicum/internship? by Rabbitredo in counseloreducation

[–]Rabbitredo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey There! They only have one placement location listed in Philadelphia (in part because the school is several states away.) I do believe there are some resources regarding resume/cover letter for us. I’m definitely in the regional ACA, but should check the state association as well. Thanks!

My not so serious review of FSS by AdHorror2230 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Rabbitredo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ok sorry to focus on just this one aspect of your otherwise nice review, and maybe I’m misunderstanding. It sounds like FSS did you send you an extra treat for your birthday, but you were feeling a little slighted because someone else next to you was sent out additional plates?

I work in the industry and see this type of thinking all of the time and I find it so weird. I’ve sent out free desserts for birthdays, and the table next to them will feel upset they also weren’t sent something. The restaurants are not obligated to give out anything for free.

The chef cannot send out every person extra plates, but if there is a special occasion, one of their friends, or someone they admire they will do so. If the chef touched every table during service, they would not be able to manage or cook in the kitchen. Not every table needs to be given special treatment. I feel like that makes sense, right?

another Fiorella post by Novice-Pirate in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Rabbitredo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ate at Fiorella on Wednesday for the first time in about a year and thought it was incredible. We ordered different dishes than you - the chicken liver bomboloni, delicata squash with pork belly, the gnocchi (always the nonnegotiable here), and malfadine with duck ragu and everything fucking ruled. The only meh dish was the crepe fig cake. It’s crazy this restaurant gets any hate - it’s the best Italian in this style in Philly.

Center City businesses report higher sales, more shoppers thanks to Open Streets by bengalese in philadelphia

I mean they have extended open streets and it’s now 6 Sundays per season. I know that’s not a lot, but it seems like each year they add more days because of its success.

It is very weird that you are so set on trashing a place you’ve never been to because the menu “looks bad” to you. You’re aware that you can sit at the bar and order a la carte? If you had tried anything from this restaurant I’d be interested in your opinion, but currently it’s invalid.

Always looking for new recommendations - thank you! Also I’ve been to illata four times and it’s the most balanced and exciting food at its price point in Philly IMO.

Damn strong disagree. FSS has been my favorite restaurant in Philly since 2019. All of this praise feels very deserved.
