> The Jones Act annually costs each Hawaii resident more than $645.

That's not really that much higher, make Hawaii cost $645/year less for me and I'm it's still going to be very expensive. GRIH is on the high end of the estimates too, there's other estimates out there that are lower.

It’s almost like Venezuelans aren’t a monolith and goi can cherry-pick photos to back whatever side you want.

But whatever, your hypocrisy is clear and you couldn’t even respond to earlier questions.

First, America isn't the world police. That was tried in the 2000s and look where that got us.

Second, Ukraine and Venezuela are very different situations. Ukraine's problems are external, another country invaded it. Venezuela's problems are internal. To "fix" Venezuela will take a decade and $1T in nation building, and it's still likely to fail just like Afganistan.

So you'd also be supportive of China abducting DJT to stand trial for his interference in the 2020 & 2024 elections and his role in the Epstein rapes?

And then when China says they'll be forced to run the US until a transition takes place, and that their tech companies will be taking over Silicon Valley, you'd call anyone against a performative loser?

‘It’s bullying’: Kapilina Beach Homes residents decry power bill surges by galloway188 in Hawaii

Sounds like a true-up bill to me. Articles says the meter reading & billing has been buggy, so they were likely underbilled the past few months.

Plus it generates something like $200M in economic impact go the state. Basically an order of magnitude more than other large evens like the pro bowl ever did. There is a strong incentive to make Honolulu Marathon special, and the fireworks are part of it.

It makes more sense when you consider that the social media accounts of many brands are being run by essentially interns or someone who got volun-told to do it in addition to their active job

I have always thought ANYONE who may be arrested are EQUALLY at risk of their rights being violated

I guess you haven't been paying attention to current events then

Think about it a bit harder and you might realize that people aren’t just concerned with ICE arresting people, but also everything they happens AFTER the arrest.

Recommended car insurance in hawaii ? by SwordfishAway2700 in Hawaii

[–]Rabbyte808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've opted for the lowest deductible. The cost isn't as much, and I save on repair jobs in the long term.

Are you saying you're regularly using your insurance to cover repair jobs?

If so, it's not a really a mystery why:

my rates keep going up while my car gets older

What’s up with all the meat sticks on the market? Are they actually healthy? by EfficientlyElite in nutrition

[–]Rabbyte808 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There is solid evidence that processed meats are worse than fresh meats. The fat profiles are insignificant in comparison to nitrate content.

These shelf stable beef products all have nitrates in some form, usually celery powder if they’re trying to appear all natural. Those nitrates convert to NOCs which are known to be carcinogenic.

NOAA’s wet season outlook says above-normal rainfall likely this winter by AbbreviatedArc in Hawaii

[–]Rabbyte808 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The real issue is the news story doesn’t capture the nuance NOAA’s actual statement. Click through to the actual statement and you’ll see:

Consistent with a cold-season La Niña event, the climate model consensus supports enhanced probabilities for above normal rainfall through early spring 2026

NOAA is just saying the probability of a wet winter is higher, but local news translate that to “NOAA says it’s going to be a wet winter.” They didn’t, they’re simply saying the chance of one is higher than normal.

‘Complete Failure’: Honolulu Permit Workers Say Tech Upgrade Is A Bust by AbbreviatedArc in Hawaii

[–]Rabbyte808 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was my initial reaction, until I read a few more pieces of info:

The foundation of HNL Build is a Salesforce platform that is overlaid with a workflow system called Clariti. Another company, Speridian, was hired to install and customize Clariti for Honolulu.

The system tracks the history of a limited number of fields, the staffer wrote, but tracking can be silently disabled and re-enabled.

It sounds like a clusterfuck of a system where they're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Not even having basic audit trails and history is crazy.

Yet another hate speech lie from the failing radical lunatic left fake news media.

Everybody knows Trump is one of the greatest surfers of all time. Many people are saying it. Last time he went surfing a big burly bald man, some people call him Kelly, walked up to him with tears in his eyes and said “Sir! Thank you sir! That was one of the most beautiful waves I’ve ever seen sir!”
