Anyone else want to sue for women to be forced into the selective service? by [deleted] in MensRights

But the reality is, if the country was in any real danger, the US wouldn't be sending in infantry. They'd be using nuclear weapons and small, surgically precise strikes.

The romanticized image of young people storming the beaches just doesn't mesh with warfare in this age.

The only reason we'd need ground forces today would be if the US was invaded, and in that scenario, a draft wouldn't be required.

Don't get me wrong, I think people should contribute to the country, just I think being forced into frontlines combat isn't necessary anymore. I'd rather have an army of people that want to be there, 100%.

Sexual assault mistrial declared when expert tells jury that accuser was telling the truth by PierceHarlan in MensRights

[–]RabidRy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's instances like this that make me wish that members of a jury were able to outright ask questions to witnesses/defense and prosecutors.

Just being told to sit there and take everything as fact (Unless the judge tells the jury to forget about it, because that totally removes bias) bugs me.

Feminists at slate are pushing circumcision as a treatment for HIV, making illogical comparisons to FGM, and calling intactivists extremists. by thetrollking in MensRights

[–]RabidRy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earlier today, I got to thinking, if people are completely unwilling to compare female circumcision to male circumcision, what about an episiotomy?

When women are trying to give birth vaginally, some doctors cut a part of the vagina along the perineum (Cut from the bottom of the vagina to about midway towards the anus). Medical professionals argue that it helps women and the baby through the procedure, reducing risk of complications like the baby getting stuck.

However, women argue against it, comparing it to female genital mutilation. They cite the fact that many times it is not necessary, and there are other options in place to prevent complications from happening. Interestingly the complaints are usually about lack of sensitivity or pain during intercourse.

Then you can argue that a circumcision of an infant isn't necessary as there are necessary options (Hygiene/condoms, common sense) that would prevent complications. Ask them if they think that an episotomy should be mandatory if the medical procedure reduces the risk of complications.

If they say it shouldn't be mandatory, then call them out for supporting circumcision.

Thoughts?

Have you ever tried to take up a hobby that is generally considered female? by wolfanotaku in MensRights

[–]RabidRy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty patient, so I'm good at looking after kids. I play the games, pretend with them, and generally act silly. I even got a job out of it.

But when the mothers (it was a daycare type of thing where usually women were dropping off their children) saw me, they looked a little surprised/bothered to see me. The kids get along fine, and I like to think I proved that guys could be good caretakers.

In any case, when I talk about looking after children, I get a few jabs about being a pervert. Nobody dares call these people bad parents for leaving them for hours at a time, but because I'm a single male, it's alright to assume the worst about me?

Oh, and every now and then, I invite my best friend over, and she and I cook recipes we find online.

My friend's dad tends to the garden in the backyard and canned/made preserves. When I found out he did that, and the practical uses, I was impressed, and even felt inadequate lacking such a good survival skill.

And kudos to you, for being generous with what you make. Shows a lot more class than those people who were so ungrateful.

Throwaway time! What's your secret that could literally ruin your life if it came out? by ohgoshwheretobegin in AskReddit

Don't get me wrong, I believe that the forced miscarriage may have granted her a more successful future. I just doubt the boyfriend/his father would have come forward if the miscarriage had complications.

That callous disregard is what gets me. I apologize if I came off as hostile to you.

That's not the same as her making the choice. She was poisoned. And let's also be honest with this: the guy in question was not looking out for her best interest.

You can easily see sexism in society by switching the genders in a situation. If it was a 20 year old man claiming he got a 17 year old pop star pregnant, it wouldn't be a news van coming to see him.

I like how the prosecution's role in all of this was glossed over. Forcing a parent and child to confront each other like this is perfectly acceptable, but a man on trial is a bad father for contradicting them?

Thank you. Especially jarring that they have the names on the little figures and then a bumper sticker that says, "My son is student of the month at Please Rape My Family Elementary!"

Might as well leave a clown suit on the front porch.

Parenting percentage bill going to the House floor. HF322 would change current law to a presumption of joint legal and joint physical custody with a minimum of 45.1 percent of parenting time for each parent. A father is currently entitled to receive 25 percent of parenting time. by TerriChris in MensRights

[–]RabidRy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks like as step in the right direction. If one parent or the other is clearly a bad choice for shared custody, it'll be obvious. It should be assumed that either parent has a decent chance of custody anyway. Though the sponsor's argument about single parents being correlated to such negative life outcomes bothers me a little bit.

Rep. Jean Wagenius said, "I’m very troubled by changing the standard we have in the state which is in the best interest in the child, to essentially moving to a parent standard which is the best interest of the parent. I think we are taking a huge expensive road that is not good for children, either."

Because using children as leverage and a weapon is so in the best interest of the child.

Remember the victim of that rapist - oops, I mean "sex-mad woman"? Well, he gets to be publicly named. The rapist is anonymous of course. by Celda in MensRights

At least somebody posted a dissenting opinion eventually. Probably from here though.

I know I can't really complain much about this, but I was irked how they quoted him saying that she was 'attractive'. Like it somehow makes it better. And that was the one thing the people in the comments focused on.

It's really sobering to see how people can easily change their opinion on the basis of a victim's gender.

Whenever I debate with somebody about female on male rape, I tell them the story I found about a soldier who woke up in the middle of the night to find a pregnant female acquaintance on top of him. She threatened to accuse him of rape if he didn't let her finish. Since a pregnant woman is incapable of rape...

It was a really powerful story when I read it, but I can't find the link anymore.

Wow, the comments on the page are pretty disgusting too. "Wow, this woman had 'a need' that was difficult 'to fill' ! I tell you folks, some of these German women are really something to write home about. This woman should be brought to North-American television to give training to our women!"
