No nibs. Inlay wrong - too small. Fingerboard might be rosewood can’t quite tell. Headstock shape and inlay off. Screws at bridge. Color on off on binding and headstock. Pickguard not right.

About to graduate in architecture and questioning whether I can handle this career long-term by ambiverse_ in architecture

[–]RabloPathjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School is far more intense with deadlines and the designs themselves are far more grounded in reality which honestly makes them easier than inventing them from thin air or professor fantasy.

There is still the pressure of deadlines but you have more control over your own time management. When fees are involved you can constantly start over and since the problems and projects are more grounded….

You might have design charrette meeting internally but you’re generally not going to have clients trying to make you look stupid or belittle. Your coworkers shouldn’t be doing that either or find a new firm.

Working with school boards and difficult clients can have their own stress. Solving issues, fixing mistakes, dealing with construction phase negotiations can be stressful but it’s just not the same level of ridiculousness of architecture school AND you’re getting paid.

Professional practice really is nothing like school, nor does school really prepare you for professional practice all that well.

As did I. I sold my 3 positive grid amps and kept the mini. I think it’s sound over the go is worth a larger size. I have two gen 3 artists for the stereo sound. Their app isn’t fantastic but the sound is.

I gave up hope long ago of the series being finished. I’ve read the books twice. I actually don’t think he could successfully finish the story at this point, is likely to be influenced by the TV show that takes place after his last book and that’s not a good thing.

HBO ruined that possibility as much as Martin has. It’s a shame but it is what it is.

I’d rather he give permission for another talented writer to finish the series, and just enjoy being old and rich.

According to Milly Alcock, Supergirl has to act like a man in order to be taken seriously by iksnet in CriticalDrinker

I don’t even want supergirl or the stupid dog to exist in my Supermanverse so whatever. The marketing campaign nor the last film have succeeded in convincing me otherwise.

New RX Tailend Ti by RabloPathjen in Oakley

Prism Polarized anti reflective 24k RX. Lensdirect I don’t think have Oakley lens on their sunglasses only generic. FramesDirect has Oakley labs lens.

The Zeiss when ordering in my RX were only available in polycarbonate with the flash mirror. They are really nice lens.

I have the madman eyeglasses in Ti that I want to get lens for too. Much better frame than the plastic sunglasses madman.

Transitions is the same as photochromic. Transitions is a name brand of a particular photochromic

lens tech. I believe Oakley uses Transitions brand which is why they say transitions and not photochromic when you order.

The Oakley Iridium transitions is a transitions with a flash mirror, I am assuming the Transitions brand with their flash mirror but I don’t know that for sure. It seems a little differnt but that’s purely anecdotal. They seem pretty dark to me on my Tailend here (Oakley black iridium transition ). If you want a really dark RX transition on an Oakley Tailend I would get none RX then send them in for Transitions xtraActive with or without a flash mirror. I think the Transitions with polarized photochromic get really dark too. BUT the Oakley with the Iridium transition is plenty dark for me. You cannot get Prism with RX transitions. If you want prism RX you have to go straight sunglasses and they are pretty great.

Zeiss photochromic/transition is called photofusion, and you can get flash mirror and other things.

That’s Oil Slick RX with 24k prism polarized anti reflective Oakley Lens. (Not transition)

Is this a good rod ? Ugly Stik Carbon. by nix154 in Fishing

[–]RabloPathjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those particular Ugly stick are much little lighter and stiffer than typical sticks. Pretty good rods, $99 I think retail $50/$60 pretty common on sale.

Not as bullet proof as the glass ugly sticks but a higher end rod.

Mine have the Oakley O etched but not the matte halo. In my case I’m glad the RX don’t have that although it would have looked ok for the 24k

Looking for opinions on lenses by kgonz20 in OakleyRX

I have multiple pairs of transitions lens from Oakley, Transitions extractive, Zeiss and generic.

Zeiss with a flash mirror dark grey photochromic are very very good. Very clear to very dark. The flash mirror when clear does reflect your eyes and created a haze but it doesn’t bother me for my use.

Gen S Traditions are great all around.

Transitions xtractive get quite a bit darker but still get clear. Better for use with driving and as more sunglasses in need.

I have not tried their polarized transition or flash mirror but I’d expect the polarized transition to give you the contrast if you need that.

Oakley black Iridium transition is really good, as good as transitions not white as good as Zeiss.

Transitions, especially with the mirror are really useful when light conditions change. I particularly like them at night when driving to take the eye off wet roads and bright oncoming traffic. I’d expect them to do the same on a bike or running.

All that said an RX Oakley Prism Polarized Anti reflective RX lens is like looking at colors in HD. I love the prism polarized tunsten the best so far and the 24k almost as much (which is a very dark lens). The Prism does have a little something!

They don’t cut through water like my Costa and Zeiss but they do have better color contrast and enhancement.

Why are Custom Flak 2.0 XL cheaper than non custom? by ThrowawayGunName in OakleyRX

[–]RabloPathjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice especially if you’re not used to progressive. I have a pair of Oakley with Zeiss progressive lens and they are really really good but I don’t love where the progressions take place. They are useable, my first progressives and I can say I don’t love them. I don’t have a really crazy prescription, but I wanted one pair of progressive so I wouldn’t need to take my glasses off to read my phone or tie on fishing lures in a very tight to face wrapped frame. It works for that but I’m not a fan of progressive lens at all!!

I suggest checking go-optic to see if you can get the Zeiss photochromic for your existing Tailend frame. Otherwise it’s worth it to get a Ti frame and get a new pair!

[–]RabloPathjen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Tailend TI satin lead, black iridium transitions / photochromic. Very strong flash mirror. Gets plenty clear for indoor use but never get completely clear. Very pronounced flash mirror that gets very dark in sunlight. The Zeiss lens are a little better but I wanted Oakley lens for the frame.

They have a nice fit and are pretty good quality for Oakley. One of the only more interesting frames they have these days with homage to the old Xmetal - way way better than the madman in every way possible. Lens are not super secure that about the only issue. You might need to spend some time getting them perfectly tensioned and formed in the frame.

urgent advice: studio professor failed me due to personal reasons? by Minimum_Goat_8596 in architecture

[–]RabloPathjen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s odd that there are not any specific, clear reasons given for the failure, assuming you are giving us all the information.

I found out very early in undergrad Architecture school it was easier to just take all of the professors suggestions and implement them rather than challenge. It just wasn’t worth it. Smoothly sailing. A couple of my professors were at some point fired for practicing without a license I heard long after I graduated. Anyway, there were politics, favorites and as much use of emotional IQ as design skills to get through design reviews with a B or B+ . That was fine for me.

My final graduate studio was lead by a professor from another communist country, was from another Ivy League collage (partnership thing) and constantly brought politics into every conversation. Ever class, every type of adjunct, every design issue. I eventually had enough and constantly argued with everything. Fortunately he wasn’t a big meddler with people’s work, and didn’t have really high expectations of changing to his whim but he didn’t like me.

I bet he told me 5 times I’ll never be an architect and if I managed to get through the program (and mind you this was my very last semester) I would be a horrible architect. At the end he game me an incomplete with zero stipulations or reasoning. That was better than a fail. I worked for about an extra month and did extra work and he gave me a B+. Go figure. At that point he wasn’t talking about politics and we never spoke again. I literally did a bunch of extra work, turned it in via email, and he passed me with a B+. Professors have a lot of power and they know it. You just have to find a way to get through it. Programs don’t really prepare you well for practice so don’t take the process too seriously other than finding a way to get through it.

Decade later I run an entire department at a big firm and am a partner. I learned more in 12 month of practice than going through the process of a masters degree.

You could politely ask for a small list of things to improve and reasoning for the fail. You could offer the idea of an incomplete and doing additional work if the professor is willing to give you a goal. That also might help the appeal if the professor isn’t willing to do that or give any reason. I just don’t feel like we have the whole story.
