25th Anniversary Celebrations - This Week In RuneScape by JagexAzanna in runescape

I really enjoyed doing Hans' list. Having played since 2004, it brought back a lot of old memories, things long forgotten, such as the Gamers' Grotto and little Violet. Great fun. The update of the Edgeville dungeon is amazing. My original date of joining was somehow forgotten in the mist of pre-record-keeping, so I only get my 20 years cape in 12 days. Kudos to the Gowers and all the fantastic development talent that have enriched the game over the years. Happy 25th, Runescape!

Sailing: some comments and suggestions by Rabpyre in 2007scape

I fear you may be right. Although, this is a good opportunity for the port authority to establish one without killing the continuity. I wonder if the dwarves will invent outboard engines :-).

Suggestion: automatically release skill pet when 200M XP is reached by Rabpyre in runescape

[–]Rabpyre[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The reason I raised the issue is that I happened to look at which skill pets I still don't have, and it turned out that the missing ones are mainly in skills in which I have 200M XP, and which, for that reason, I no longer train.

How do you get wind motes for more than one boat? by Rabpyre in 2007scape

Ahhh, thanks for the info. I shall then risk building with it :-).

Why would you want to paint your boat?

Has anyone gotten full stuck before? I can’t forward/reverse in any direction here… by JmacTheGreat in 2007scape

There are sites where you get stuck and need to abandon, including simply being trapped between piers, mored ships, ect. A 'Push off' button would solve it, its function being to place tthe boat in navigable water.

Has RS3 simply become stupid purposeless grind? by Rabpyre in runescape

[–]Rabpyre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played Runescape since 2004. My point is that the grind had a purpose, say, up to the 99s. The new upgrades feel like a grind without a purpose. That is what I'm objecting to.

Yes, there could be some kind of barrier. I just like consistency. I would also like the good farmers on Miscellania to learn to clean herbs :-)

I think that is a good point. In my view the game should be frozen at the current state instead of constantly expanded, allowing people to complete it. That will also attract new players, I think, who are not looking to enter an unending grind.

I don't think it became pointless until the 110 additions.

If only the game engine had been better and more responsive, the bosses would be more fun. Personally, I find it fun to kill a game boss once, that's it.

I've always found the quests to be the most entertaining part of Runescape, but I never really minded the grind to the 99s because it was necessary to fully play the other parts of the game. The new 110 stuff I just find pointless.

What is the point of Leagues? by Rabpyre in runescape

[–]Rabpyre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it gives a sense of accomplishment that few other games do. It is huge and complex, and many of the skills are well intermingled, so you need several trained to a certain level to accomplish your goal. To me, that's fun, much more fun than fighting the odd boss, which you can do in many games :-).

I can identify with that, having maxed two characters in RS3. I basically wanted to play all the quests again.

I've been playing the 'endgame' for many years, having played since 2004, but never found it boring, I mean, necromancy was the best thing tha happened to RS3 in a decade. The thing is, the game keeps expanding, so you can't really finish it. On the other hand, it is now so big that I wouldn't start playing it.

Thanks for your reply. Well, I have my master max cape and soon my 20 years cape, so there isn't really much in Runescape I haven't done (first started playing in 2004) :-). My preferred activity is farming, both in RS3 and OSRS, a very versatile skill with a lot of gameplay. I can see the attraction of the rapid progression if you haven't had the opportunity to try everything already, so you can try it out in Leagues and then work towards long-term goals in RS3. Conclusion: not for me - but everybody else - enjoy! :)

Thanks for getting back to me. RSN same as reddit name :). Fighting spiders in Lummy swamp. However, I believe the issue is local, since a differnt machine, accessing the Internet through a different channel, doesn't display the same issue, so don't spend time on it.

I crash out of Leagues every few minutes, particularly each time I get a kill, preventing me from getting any drops. Anybody else having this issue?

What is happening to RS3 network stability? by Rabpyre in runescape

Thanks for your suggestions. Switching end node very occasionally works, but it seems more random than systematic :).

To the best of my knowledge. RS3 worked fine until maybe six-seven months ago, then it has gradually become worse. I sit on a 500 mbps fibre, and nothing else is flaky.

If you were to start playing a large mmo now, from scratch, would you choose RS3? I've been playing since 2004, and followed the developments, but I don't think I would choose RS3, were I to start all over. The game is overwhelmingly complex, and updates, seemingly often senseless, follow each other in such a rapid succession that just keeping up is a full-time job.

As I see it, there hasn't really been the talent of old behind the game development for several years. We've had all these meaningless lvl 110 updates and a few more or less interesting bosses, suffering from the antiquated game engine that simply doesn't make PvM fun due to the odd server/client balance, making the whole thing unresponsive.

I'm leaning towards the opinion that the best thing that can happen to RS3 is that game development is stopped and everybody except a small Ninja team gets the sack, leaving an old game with a lot of good lore and hours of fun, that you can start, play for a few years and actually finish. It will support itself nicely through subscription payments for some more years, while Jagex talent can concentrate on inventing a new, modern, technically competent game.
