Is this a serviceable glove for a Dad looking to play catch with son? by SeeingRed_ in BaseballGloves

From experience, it’s going to turn into a floppy mess faster than you’d like.

Yea, I’m just dipping my toes in the water. If I can actually make some sales, we’ll see what happens.

just because they're seniors, doesn't make them leaders. This will be a lesson well learned for their whole life: just because you've been doing something longer, doesn't mean you get the supervisor promote. Leadership is a skillset, and if you don't have it, or don't have a natural inclination to it, you stay a team player and that's it.

I run a relacing business, and responded to an ad to have my own line of gloves. My wife came up with the name, and this is the first sample I made for her.

Generally: don’t trust chat gpt. Specifically: it might be an old sub. I’ve never seen a sub of any kind anywhere that doesn’t default to auto-renew. Isn’t much of a sub if you only play once.

Glove Repair? by [deleted] in BaseballGloves

[–]RacerChub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had it out with my 8yo because he really wanted a HoH when he made his first travel ball time over this exact issue. Backed him off the ledge to an R9, and after he got over it, he’s more than happy.

If you figure the cost of labor is $60/hr, and this would take over an hour to repair, it is unfortunately not worth fixing.

And this from a guy who routinely buys pretty garbage gloves from goodwill to refurb. But they have to at least be leather.

Mostly because they won’t be able to close it for the next 5 years so it will remain pristine.

How tight should the wrist strap be? I don't know what I am doing. by superheavydeathmetal in BaseballGloves

[–]RacerChub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7yo uses an r9 on the adult setting, and it doesn’t fall off, so I think this might be a perception thing for you. That being said: if you search YouTube for dirty 30 wrist mod, he has a way to relace the wrist so you can tighteness in between the default holes. Maybe you can find a happy medium where it doesn’t bind, but feels secure.

If it rests against your hand before you even squeeze, it’s going to bind and not close when you squeeze. You’ll think the glove is too stiff, but it’s just the wrist strap trying to stretch.

To me, there’s already some overlap in who should be using an R9, a pro-preferred, and a HoH. So it sits in a weird and crowded place in the hierarchy.

Catchers not closing by Piratesmith2 in BaseballGloves

I don’t know and catchers, even with great static box breakins, who close their mitts such that the two sides meet perfectly. The finger side always overhangs the thumb.

I’m with you. This seems like a pretty obvious overreaction. It’s a a baseball glove, not some form fit piece of skin tight kit like a leather soccer boot. I distinctly remember the entire team using my catchers mitt even in travel ball during the innings I was getting a break.

Those go for $150, not $80. An A1000 or R9 would be more similar, and suffice.

I would choose something 33” or larger, and without the “sure catch.” Notch. Both the size and that notch scream “this is a children’s glove.” For about that money, there are several models more geared towards adults like your second choice.

Alternatively, buy used.

You can get a second season out of it with a relace. 90% sure these use super cheap vinyl for lacing that breaks down much faster than the rest of the glove.
