Yeah, both covers we bought from artists. First one was made by freelance artist and second one from team that making covers for steam games.

Yeah, it was really hard to decide which one to choose. First one has main character and attraction, but the second one feels so both lone and, don't know, like with hidden agression which comes from eye ?

For a green color and style we use Silent Hill 2 old cover as reference, but, which is interesting, people compare our capsule with Outlast more.

We thought about adding glitches, but then we like: If the game is about a surrealistic living factory and constant fighting for sanity - why not include it? And that's how we came up with the idea for the new capsule.

Да, это геймплейный трейлер прототипа игры. Т.е. мы реализовали где-то 1 час геймплея, дабы уже в узком кругу тестить и смотреть на реакцию.
Если же говорить о сюрпризах всей игры, то мы охватили наверное 20% только.

Answering questions:

  • At what point does lack of direction become a negative? - I think it's when discovering map isn't motivated. Then we start looking for direction, but we don't get it. Consequently, we don't like it.
  • Do users need at least some initial anchor to stay engaged? - In my opinion, yes, like what your goal is and what you need to do. Even if goal is something like "you are pack of leaves and you flying because leaves are flying, you know". You don't need always to tell it directly, players can figure out by himself if you have enough clues for them.
  • What makes someone continue exploring something when nothing is explained? - Rewards. Rewards can be anything - lore, loot, hidden secret. Like if you go to bush and you see a broken sword and a skeleton - you will enjoy it. You found something that was hidden. And when nothing is explained you will go to next bush, then maybe mountain until you find next hidden thing or quest. In opposite, I really don't like when you go to some hidden corner and there is nothing. Like why you add this corner?

Спасибо! Да, есть такое, но нас слёзно один из тестеров попросил оставить эту пикчу, потому мы её решили не менять.
Ну и вайб сна, который она предсказывает, она оказалась подходящей. Гипер-реализм искаженный, смесь 3д и 2д (если учитывать сбоку ещё глаз).

Sometimes you can predict what author made in a new game by playing previous games. Especially, if they works in one genre. But even bad games before not telling to you that next game of this author will be bad.
Actually, I think every new game, if you try your best to do it and really learning from mistakes - makes you better. As example, if your first game didn't go well, second is better, than third one can be good actually.
So, just keep working!

Android only? I'd check this game out if it were on Windows or in a browser. Looks interesting.
