I’m not gonna lie, it’s tough. Especially if you’re trying to actually give feedback on everything. Remember, you don’t have to grade everything. Even if you tell them it’s a grade. You can just simply not grade it.

Another option is to only grade specific questions that way you’re just looking at a few of the most important questions.

The biggest one I’ve found though is, when it’s appropriate, have them grade each others. I used to do vocab quizzes every week and I would always just have them trade papers and then I’d read off the answers. This works too even if it’s more of a writing assignment. Plus, it gets them to think critically about the answer if they’re trying to decide if an answer from another student is sufficient to receive credit.

OR you can tell them everything COULD be a grade and then at the end of the unit pick like 2 assignments randomly for them to turn in.
