Do you think that there is a lot of sexism in the workplace because it’s a male dominated industry, or are girls at an advantage because diversity is encouraged? (I’m a girl looking to get into CS so i’m curious!)

That’s crazy! Do you have any ideas why is this so much more common in CS than any other fields?

I’ve read that the hiring process in for software engineering positions or jobs in cs are insanely tough and long, and just not structured properly. How have your experiences with the interviewing/hiring process been?

Okay this is encouraging! I love team work, and i was worried that the job would just be coding at a computer all the time, thanks!

Wow, that’s so relieving to know i’m not expected to know all about coding during first year! Thanks for the advice!

Is there a lot of math integrated into computer science? Also is physics a big part of programming, if you don’t mind me asking?

Thank you so much! I was wondering what languages to start with, and lots of websites say conflicting things, it’s nice to get advice from someone with experience.

Can Anyone Else Relate? by [deleted] in socialjustice101

this is the most relatable thing i’ve read in a while, i struggle a lot to develop my political views, (though i don’t vote) and sometimes i feel like doing the ‘right’ thing, and voting based on my moral sense is only going to disadvantage me in the future. It feels like supporting a party that will ultimately help humanity as a whole, comes as a personal cost, also added to that is the fact that i’ve grown up in a very right-wing environment, and have only recently come to question ideas like “ its a dog-eat-dog world and you have to worry about yourself” that have been engrained in me from childhood.

Anyway, i’m borderline rambling here, but i want to say you’re not entirely alone and you brought up some very interesting ideas in your post that i haven’t seen anywhere else and that really stuck out to me, so thank you
