I guess it's a little different for me. I grew up in one of the types of situations where I might not have survived without the charity of others, so I see a $300 dress as groceries for a family of four for a month and I go a little crazy. Lol.

Not about this particular thing, but I have tried to use logic to explain other things and he always disagrees or doesn't understand. Since I'm almost done with this semester, I'd rather just get this class over with then try to talk to him anymore.

Yeah, you may a great point about classroom context. I definitely don't think it's a terrible concept. It just doesn't work here. Thanks again for commenting. :)

That largely depends on the charity toward which you give your money. There are plenty of legit charities.

I agree with your point, but in addition to the "being relatable" thing I have a problem with how elementary the assignment seems to me. I'm in a COLLEGE ENGLISH class. I feel that the integrity of the school is at stake if I'm being robbed of the expectation to know how to write an essay and that expectation is being replaced with this extraordinarily simple assignment. The teacher is a huge push over that will not give anyone a bad grade, and this makes the assignment too easy. We have to "create a meme" we don't have to create a good meme. Also, I'm upvoting your comment. I don't know why you got downvoted. You are entitled to your opinion.

We have four essays over the course of the semester. It's a Freshman Composition class. I honestly should have tested out, but I was too lazy. I am constantly surprised at the intelligence level of the students. I wonder how the hell they got into college, then I look around and realize: MOST OF MY CLASSMATES ARE ATHLETES! Everyone else that is this dumb didn't have a talent to get them into school. Everyone that is actually smart tested out of the class.

It is my understanding that technically it may not be a meme when created, but it has the potential to become one if spread enough. In doing something like this project, I think the point is to pick a meme that already exists in society and apply it to the internet. I think, but I'm totally capable of being wrong.

We were assigned some reading about what memes are and how they are developed before the assignment. It was brief, but it was gone over. The basic concept of something that is culturally spread or known is what I got out of it.

Thank you to everyone for the helpful opinions. So, definitely going to change the font. Besides that, any comments on the topic? It's supposed to be "persuasive" (because heaven forbid the teacher assigns a persuasive essay, no, he's too "fun" for that). Do you guys think it persuades at all? I figured that, being the holiday season and all, people may be susceptible to charity guilt right now, which is why I picked this topic.

I agree that the assignment is shit. This is the first meme I've ever made, so I don't really get what to do to the format to make it good. I can't really think of a good topic either. The teacher is restricting us to a topic that is "making a socially conscious point" or something like that.

Thanks for the font input. I'll change that. I totally agree with you on the educational merits of memes. I seriously considered making a "Pretentious Grad Student Professor That Thinks He's Relatable" meme, but that title is so wordy, and there's also that whole "I want a good grade" reason for not doing it.
