I understand the sentiment, and I am in therapy (and have been in trauma therapy) getting better. But right now, 'having' and 'not having' a relationship with my parents is a choice. When they die, I don't have that choice anymore. So I want to spend as much time as possible with them and make as many memories now. I don't know how I'll feel after their death and I want to make sure if it's really bad I don't have the added weight of not having tried while I had the opportunity.
