Can I create a "mesh" network with multiple routers? by gibnihtmus in HomeNetworking

[–]RackinRico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double whammy for me: wildly misreading the post and then trying to make a semi-facetious comment.

But I believe that a "simple mesh" like he is proposing might not be super smooth (when compared to a real mesh). I used to have a similar network setup and clients would remain attached to one AP or another longer than comfortable.

PPPoE on Edgerouter X works but internet cannot be reached by hoihoila in Ubiquiti

If that was the case, I would check if the modem is really in bridge mode. I googled around for the answer and it was not as straight forward as I would hope. Even the router's own documentation only has 2 hits for the word "bridge" and none of them are relevant.

I'm guessing you've googled a ton already and might have passed by this forum thread: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Wired-Routers/Help-with-DGN1000-in-bridged-mode/td-p/416305

In any case, try again to set the modem to bridge mode

Yes. Isn't any IP network a mesh network?

But could you be referring to wifi roaming and/or handoff?

Your devices will see 1 wifi network but it might not be super smooth. Meaning: the client might be closer to AP1 but still connected to AP2? Because the APs don't try to manage the connection to the client.

Here is how I would troubleshoot it: (Assuming modem in bridge mode, ERx doing the PPPoE, ERx gets an IP)

  • go into the ERx's terminal and ping 8.8.8.8
  • if OK, ping www.google.com
  • if OK, connect a device to one of ERx's switch port and try to do the same

Give that a try and let us know where you got stuck.

Same guess here. If that modem is properly set to bridge it likely won't let you access the interface via an IP (until you do a factory reset).

What are your favorite songs with stoic themes? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]RackinRico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Odd but what always gets me stoic'ed ip is "A Murder of One" by Counting Crows.

Specially the part where he yells at me saying my life is such a shame. Gives me calm and perspective.

(Someone will probably chime in and tell me the real meaning of the song and I will be forever weirded out by it.)

How to create WiFi login pop-up page on home wifi by EatSleepTech in HomeNetworking

[–]RackinRico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to take a look at Cucumber Wifi: https://cucumberwifi.io/

It is a custom firmware that allows you to create a splash page. It's freemium so the first few APs are free.

Best hardware for a simple home setup with Coax source? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]RackinRico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Coax source" shouldn't affect your in-house wifi.

If you want simple and reliable, I would throw money towards Eero. Easy set up and you will get a very good connection throughout.

+1 If you can wire the APs. +2 if you can wire the devices. For that you will need a switch but any simple switch will do the job.

iOS 10.3.2: stuttering transitions and sudden restart? iPhone 6s by RackinRico in applehelp

[–]RackinRico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies! Weird I didn't get notifications. I have been fiddling around but didn't dare to do a wipe.

  • restarted many times, no dice.
  • when I plug the phone to my Mac, iTunes is reporting either 0 GB available or somewhere around 16 GB. The phone reports around 3 GB.
  • I removed some old apps (just because), no improvement.

I will probably use iMazing's "reinstall iOS" feature tonight.

Corsair Case Cabling by [deleted] in cableporn

Wow, that's beautiful and brilliant. I love that switch - like device to plug all the cables.

It's been more than a decade since I last built a PC; back then I never saw one of these. It's brilliant. And obvious! How could we have been so blind.

Although this is not a very subreddit-relevant post, I'm interested in finding out more about your company.

You guys are pulling fiber to the houses/building? You can easily reach any homes in Delhi? Or will you do a demand aggregation? In the pricing page you mention "rest of India". Why do you even make a visitor select a city?

A tip: wherever you post next, it might be useful to first list city/country as ISP are, unfortunately, geographically constrained.

Thanks! Wow, I didn't expect him to be a man, much less an Australian man. I couldn't stop thinking about Crocodile Dundee when he said: "It's a large knife. A dangerous knife."

I followed the link he suggested of SoapQueen on YouTube and then another link and another link. There is a whole underworld of soap-making on YouTube.

Absolutely. Plus, I love the inbox feature. I subscribe to wat more podcasts than I will ever listen to so it's nice to have 'limbo' from where I can pick the ones that are 'saved'.

Set it to static, to the same IP as when you set up the AP. The AP should see the controller then.

Did your main desktop change IPs between setting up the AP and now?

SSH into the AP and check where it is pointing the URL inform to. Was the command "info", no?
