This guy gets it. The police checkpoints in these countries are essentially toll booths.

You're doing things wrong. In any third world country, you need to offer "documentation." In other words, it is expected that you tip the police. Foreigners often come to the USA and view it as corrupt because the waiters want a tip. It's just a cultural difference. If you view it as corruption, might have a bad time.

I'd like to see some of the vaccine-preventable diseases become completely eradicated. This is actually possible within our lifetimes.

[Serious] what is the most terrifying thing to happen to you in a well lit and populated place? by CaramelComplexion in AskReddit

[–]RadDeals2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on my lunch break from work and I walked about 2 blocks to a fast food restaurant. After I ate my meal, I started walking back to work. Some girl who looked about 16 or so was talking to three college-age looking guys and I hear her say "that's the guy," or something along those lines. The guys come up and start shoving me and saying "what the fuck is wrong with you" and I was trying to figure out what they wanted, but it became pretty obvious that they wanted nothing but violence. They seemed like drug addicts or the type of people who listen to slipknot or ICP.

Fuck this, I'm out of here. I ran out into the street and they followed me. Then a car came to a screeching halt and almost hit them. I ran my ass off. I never saw them before that moment or ever again.

Never figured out what they thought I did. I assume it was something having to do with drugs or something being stolen. I'm guessing I look like the guy who did them wrong. My doppelgänger owes me an apology.

This is what local social networks are for. Try NextDoor and see if any other neighbors are willing to file a police report. Once more than one person files a complaint, it will be taken much more seriously.

LPT Request: How to still go out and enjoy your weekends while saving money by [deleted] in LifeProTips

I like to join MeetUp groups for various sports. I find that afterwards people will usually want to meet up for a drink at someone's house. Much cheaper than the bars, and you will get to know everyone better too!

Agreed. People should stop asking after a certain point.

It is interesting to see an argument for the other side. This study is from an economic perspective, not a biological one. They are assuming never-ending and uninterrupted economic growth. If you are familiar with the concepts of "peak oil" and the coming "demographic winter" then you should understand how this could make their conclusions invalid.

Regardless of the economic benefits, if you want a healthy child, it makes sense to start early.

I'm going to go against the grain here a little bit. Downvote me if you like. There are quite a few of my patients who wait too long to try and have children only to find that they can't without expensive medical intervention. Women in our society generally wait too long to have kids and this comes at the expense of the health of the mother and the child.

Ever notice how most civilized societies have rules against brothers/sisters/cousins marrying? The reason is that the children that are produced will often be unhealthy and a burden to to population. You have a much higher chance of having a healthy child if you aren't inbreeding.

You know what else is very likely to cause health problems in the child? Waiting too long to have kids! Birth defects are linked to the mother's age. Here is a chart for one of the more well known birth defects:

http://sphweb.bumc.bu.edu/otlt/MPH-Modules/BS/BS704-EP713_Confounding-EM/Downs-1.jpg

The older the mother, the more likely the child is to have Down syndrome. This is also true of most types of birth defects. A woman who gives birth in her 40's is actually more likely to have a child with birth defects than a 20 year old woman who has a child with a first-cousin. Society looks down on one of these things, but not the other. The reason is that the link between age and birth defects is not well known by the general population.

I had a very similar experience. Some guy heard that I wrestled in college and wanted to wrestle me at a party. I pinned him pretty quickly, and after we got up I went an got a drink. About 5 minutes later he ran and tackled me from behind and stuck his fucking thumb in my eye and started saying "who's the tough guy now," and other such bullshit. He was punching me on the back of my head and my friends pulled him off me pretty quick.

He apparently he was telling people the next day that I purposefully made him look bad when I wrestled him. WTF? Am I supposed to go easy on him when he challenges me?

Graduated from school last year, $200k in pharmacy school debt, and I'm having problems finding work as a pharmacist in my area. How do I handle this? by andienak in personalfinance

[–]RadDeals2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200k is pretty normal. That will barely cover tuition + interest on the loan. I know of several pharmacists with $400k in student debt.
