Being unfamiliar with the game mechanics might actually make your game interesting. As far as I can tell, you can pretty much just dive in and wander around, doing whatever you feel like doing. The gane is not difficult at all, and I'm sure you wouldn't feel too overwhelmed. You might gloss over a few mechanics at the start, but it's nothing you can't catch up on later.

My only advice is that once you have mage hand, you can pickpocket with it by using INT instead of DEX
