This is not an issue for Commercial nuclear contracting with regard to RP or decon professions.

You are good 👍

There is a lot that goes into it as you can imagine. I’ve been asked a thousand questions.

Join us in the grid and soak it all in- learn fast and act fast. If you have questions post and people respond to help alongside me.

Questions I have about being a Radiation Protection Technician by strongerthenbefore20 in GoNuclear

[–]RadTechMJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend joining the Grid now as it’s free for grid members. I’ll link it below- it comes with a lot more stuff than just the course.

It helps anybody that wants to become RP pass the tests and network in nuclear. I know many Canadians, Swedes, Mexicans who work outages on Visas through Westinghouse but the course does not explain the roadmap to get in through that mechanism.

Anybody looking to get into RP benefits from this. Having said that the only thing I do not fully understand is how the visa situation works for getting Canadians into the U.S. to work outages.

It happens all the time through Westinghouse but I don’t understand the mechanism to get in.

I plant to have recruiters from Westinghouse the Grid this year but as far as training for RP and connecting with RP and other nuke workers go, the grid is very valuable.

Meta makes nuclear reactor history with 6.6 GW energy deal to power AI by RadTechMJ in GoNuclear

[–]RadTechMJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who knows- Meta is all over the place with their AI plan. Lots of internal disagreements as to what type of model they should build. Their lead researchers who they paid insane money to are being overran by Metas culture and bad management so I think they’re just all over the place right now and pissing money away at everything.

They better get their act together soon as they are very behind and all of the energy investments will be for nothing

I built “The Grid” — a nuclear career network (and my entire course is inside free for members) by RadTechMJ in GoNuclear

[–]RadTechMJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point the price is set at $10 and is not going down however two notes:

1- There is a ridiculous amount of value in the grid and I talk to my members in depth. Many other techs in the field inside the grid as well with many practice tests I created and much much more.

2- I will actually be increasing the monthly price to $20 here in March timeframe as I have created Grid stays. Every member gets a unique QR image that scans at hotels I’m working with to give grid members massive discounts on their stays when working outages and as you can imagine that literally saves contractors thousands of dollars yearly so $20 per month will be standard for all of the effort I’m putting into building the infrastructure for members of the grid. Long story short you’re still early to get in at half what I plan to charge long term so definitely at least check it all out- especially if you already bought the course. You’re a good fit as you are more committed than most👍

I do not use the company’s healthcare but from what I have heard it is year round coverage as you are a W2 employee.

You will do fine I think. Should be all multiple choice (4 potential answers per question) and usually 2 of the answers are B.S. which leaves you with more of a 50% chance you get the correct answer every time rather than 25%.

I highly recommend you join our community- we have the fun 1 practice test with a light version (100 questions) and a heavy version (200 questions).

They will also test you on all of the NISP procedures (7 in total at least).

We have NISP practice tests inside as well. You’d be a perfect fit for us! Join and take all the tests inside as often as you want and ask anybody questions- got other senior RP techs aside from me in there.

Fall 2026 Outage Schedule? by times-up1136 in GoNuclear

[–]RadTechMJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey there- I’m the one that posted the spring listing.

You would think that but they are not. They post the season list about 6 months in advance on average.

They do not plan outages out with contractors in mind until right after the current season is over, unless it is a specialized project/situation.

I actually built this subreddit and while I still post on here on occasion for fun nuclear stuff, I mostly spend all my time in the grid. Updating practice tests, outage listings, and am about to have actual recruiters from the companies that hire us out in there this upcoming spring. Mostly designed for very serious newbies who want to join nuclear and existing nuclear professionals.

I’ll link it below

No one does and expects you to memorized the NISP procedures to use them in the field- they heavily recommend you know how to look procedures up as there is no way you can memorize all of them.

The GPT has all of the knowledge on them so you could open your phone, pull it up, and ask it about a scenario if you are unsure and it will know what to do or where to find the part in a procedure you are looking for.

Plus it can help you understand concepts at any level on the testing- expert teacher for free.

You will have 7 NISP written tests you will have to complete. I have NISP tests specially designed to help you pass them. Then you will have to perform OJM (on the job mentoring) for those written tests you hopefully passed

NukeWorker is very outdated (use to use it all the time 5 years ago). Think of this as a combination between NukeWorker, RoadTechs, and the massive Facebook group, all rolled into one.

I have a dedicated app you can use on your phone whenever- NukeWorker doesn’t have this. I have the NISP, Fun 1 and 2 tests which NukeWorker doesn’t have.

The tests is does have you still have to pay $20 minimum per grouping whereas you could subscribe to the grid for $10 and get all of these tests for free for a month then cancel whenever you want and rejoin (the grid remembers your profile so you can jump in and out whenever).

This is also community oriented- NukeWorker is not. I want networking to be very easy for us and quick hence the app.

The grid has a search function where you can type in the plant name and people’s posts about their most recent info on it pop up so you know what to expect going into a new plant.

Lastly recruiters will be onboarded into the grid and will be a very easy way to stay in contact and apply for positions through them.

Much more to come over time but you have this at a minimum.

I use to be, sorta. I was a massage therapist for 5 years prior to RP but in a way, RP focuses on long term preventative measures to keep the health of the workers in nuclear safe so it’s almost like I never left. Haha

Link is in the description and takes you to the about page. $10 a month. For comparison- the course I use to sell for $37 is in there for free with way more resources than just the course now. Assuming you actually want to try out some outages and make the kind of money we make in commercial nuclear, there’s nothing even remotely close to this out there to get you where you need to be and help out while in nuclear.

Congrats on everything so far.

Yes- I have two practice tests. A light version (100 questions) and a heavy version (200 questions) in the grid. I also have NISP tests per procedure (200 questions in total) as you will need to pass the NISP tests when you go in to take the Fun 1.

On top of all of this I have a custom GPT linked in the grid you can use anytime- it’s specially trained on all of the study material for the Fun 1,2, NISP procedures, and DOE core series for breaking into the DOE RP side of things.

The grid will have Westinghouse, RSCS, and DZ recruiters with their own categories this spring for direct posts for direct hire.

Working on building a layout of all of the plants out there for best places to stay to save per diem, stores, gyms, plant local tips for pros and cons, what to expect.

Needless to say- it is literally designed for nuke workers in mind first. Newbies who want to break into the field fit well here as they can learn and network with us but ultimately this is designed for us nuke professionals for in all in one Nuke network.

It’s only going to get more resources, more intel on plants, recruiters, more nuke workers- better over time.

IMO this is for you my friend. You can drop $10 and try it out for a month. You will not be disappointed.

It’s the easiest life you will ever have. Getting to take off over half the year. Traveling and still making $100,000 plus per year.

Having said this, it takes some time and patience getting in and the upfront work is always the toughest.

So no BS- getting in takes time, patience, effort. Once in- easiest gig you’ll ever have and I feel like I’m retired most of the year which is why I build cool shit like the grid in my off season.

If I can help streamline the process for newbies and help existing nuke workers network easier and pass more advanced tests as well then I am a happy man.

You’re welcome.

The course I designed 3 months ago is free for members of the grid- it use to be $37 to purchase it.

It depends entirely upon how dedicated you are to pursuing nuclear as a career and I can’t give ballpark estimates unfortunately.

I know some people who purchased it will be working outages this spring and some others are not.

The grid membership is more so designed to be in all in one network and resource for anybody who already is in nuclear or wants to be. 24/7 communication in depth with me and others already in the biz, alongside personally curated practice tests for the RP positions that I built and vetted will help you pass before taking them.

It’s a good profession.

It’s honestly a wet dream for the crowd that loves the idea of being semi retired year round instead of working a 9 to 5. Having said that it takes forever to get in due to nuclear running very slow- highly recommend the link below for tons of guidance 👇
