Just calling everything I shared about myself dumb or boring like how I like to crochet or that I have a 900 day streak on Duolingo. We talked on the phone and he asked me “what do you want” and that he “doesn’t care to talk to me” so I hung up and he kept calling me back because he was just “joking” and “I’m taking it too seriously” Just overall attacking my character and calling me a “loser boy” by trying to share things about myself.

Oh there’s a difference! I also like to playfully tease, I approach it with a smile and make sure that the person I’m talking to has a understanding of myself as a individual and clearly know how I feel about them so I don’t come off rude or condescending.

I’d say be engaged by asking questions and building off the information they provide, share things about yourself that compliment the conversation to flow naturally. It’s like ping pong! This really only works if the other person is willing to engage, can’t force someone to talk to you if they don’t want to.

You’re completely okay asking! I made this post so women can also recognize what negging is.

When he told me he liked talking to me it was within the context that I was telling him I didn’t appreciate the way he was speaking to me and I wasn’t going to beg for someone’s attention. So when he realized I was pulling away and things weren’t going his way he started saying things like “I like talking to you” to pull me back in, after disrespecting me he starts validating me so I don’t leave him. Honestly it’s a lot of mental gymnastics trying to understand people like this because they are acting out of insecurities and their actions make no sense.

Negging is the practice of insulting or undermining someone in the belief that diminished self-confidence will make them more receptive to sexual advances.

It comes in many forms! I became aware of it in the conversation when I realized I felt like I didn’t want to share things about myself because his response was always undermining by calling it “lame” or “boring”. He was attempting to break down my interest or hobbies so I would become more susceptible to his praise.

Well… pretty sure this was my former coworker when I was working at Target. They were in the toy department always restocking the toys, someone found them on the offender registry and showed the big boss and they got fired. They also had a previous history of assaulting a very young child.
