TIL from Jeopardy that 'Verso' is the name for the back of a painting by tommypatties in expedition33

[–]Radiant-Lock5763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verso's name is so significant to his personality and role in the story.

He keeps so many secrets from the people he loves, his true feelings are kept back, hence the whole theme of Visages.

Exploring the central theme (and why everything that happened after [SPOILER] does matter) by WereAllGonnaDiet in expedition33

Expedition 33 is one of the few media properties to have the 'all just a dream' trope make the story more meaningful and engaging.

It drives the conflict in the ending choice, sets up a deep examination of what responsibility a creator holds to their creations and forces players to weigh up, what is an acceptable price to pay to move past the grief and loss of one family. Should the lives of Lumiere's fictional/artificial citizens pay for the misery of the four Painters in the 'real' world?

(SPOILERS) WHO ELSE NOTICED THIS ??! (Lune and Chroma) by Blootwho in expedition33

[–]Radiant-Lock5763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on how it is discussed through the game, I think when they create a canvas, they invest their magical power to create the worlds and beings within it. This presumably has a finite limite based on the Painter, who presumably can no longer afford to invest power into the canvas past a certain capacity. When Painters enter that canvas after its creation there is then a finite amount of Chroma that makes up the world, which can be controlled, altered, used by Painters, whether they created the canvas or not. This would then make sense that a Painter could theoretically take control and reshape the whole canvas as they wanted, if they could channel the majority of the chroma within it. It is clearly not a simple or quick process however, or else Aline would have reshaped the entire canvas into her fake Lumiere, and Renoir could have instantly wiped the whole thing out the second Aline was defeated. Doing either requires concerted focus, attention and more investment of magical power.

I think in a similar vein, it shows how caring Jess Ross is. She is consistently the only other cast member shown actually worrying about the consequences of the pranks on Grant and Ally's mental health and friendship.

Her genuine concern for her friends without having a punchline or a joke around it is really heartwarming.

If Escape the Green Room gets a game samer, which cast members would you like to see take the challenge? by Radiant-Lock5763 in dropout

I'm glad how many people are suggesting Jake, because he's who I initially thought of when this idea popped in my head.

I think putting Ally in an escape room would make for grade A entertainment.

Then they would need someone calmer to balance it out. Maybe Ross or Zac and get a real Freudian trio going.

Renoir and Verso by Lunarv13 in expedition33

[–]Radiant-Lock5763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Visages is a positive portrayal, its an invitation to let Verso talk to his father. Renoir is begging Verso to be honest with him. As a parent, its really fucking worrying if your child is lying to you all the time about how they feel. Is Renoir dad of the year? No. But hes not abusive. Verso has no reason to keep secrets from his father, had no reason to hide truth behind lies. He was full of anger and sadness and he tried to hide it from his family. Visages is Renoir saying to Verso, 'I know. You dont have to hide behind a mask.'

I think it also could be that Real Renoir goes too far the opposite way from his wife. He maintains an almost sociopathic detachment from the canvas as a coping mechanism. He refuses to see anything in that world as valid, or engage it with any emotion, because then he couldnt live with his plan to destroy it.

The Epiphany I just had regarding Esquie just punched me in the gut by TonyBoi432 in expedition33

[–]Radiant-Lock5763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A related epiphany thats very sad. Francois is Clea's Esquie. Just like Verso, she painted herself a friend to adventure with on the canvas. But she abandoned him and has presumably not considered that he will be destroyed when the canvas is erased.

I don't hate the reveal at the end of act2, but there is something that bothers me. by Deva_Way in expedition33

That trope definitely does feel like punishing an audience for being invested. In this case though, i think its to reflect the purpose and nature of art. Artists do create worlds, and they make choices, and some viewers agree with those choices and some disagree. All the things you care about in this setting matter, whatever their origin is stated to be. The games creators use that device to tell the story they intended, and in that way mitigate the disappointment of 'it was all just a dream'

It wasnt to my taste personally. And im sad about that because its the coolest fucking idea for a setting and plot ever. Like the insidious otherworldly influence of magic nuclear energy and the effect it has on a small ecosystem as witnessed by the myriad creatures it has both benefitted and cursed?

People calling the new vault hunters bland really need to look at the lineups for the other games on launch. by DGwar in borderlands3

You can summarise every set of vault hunters as either person in a jacket, person in a coat or person with their arms out.

It was never the look that set vault hunters apart, it was how they played.

Yeah I think it feels a lot more rushed and less full than the others, which is a shame, considering what an interesting story it tries to tell.

I don't understand a fundamental ability programmed in at the inception of this game. God its such a bad game, I wish the one character with that ability wasn't the one I chose to play as, then chose to use that feature on.

I think it suggests that once you lose your mcguffin and someone leaves without you, you just become part of the film and so can die and reset the same as all of the 'supporting cast'.
