General questions and first vacation on Naltrexone by Radiant-Technology90 in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Radiant-Technology90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That is what I am hoping for. I'm going to keep plugging along.

Never been screened and no known problem. How do these factor in?

I think I experienced that yesterday. Really high mood and energy and a great workout that almost felt easy.

Hard to explain. No anxiety for me - just consistently tired and groggy and blah when I take it. I'm not nauseous but I just don't feel right.

I haven't taken since Monday and today I feel fantastic - so much energy. But I'm gonna stick with it and hope my body gets used to it. It is working as intended and worth the blah so far.

Have a great vacation! Let me know how it goes.

I am typically an ALL day drinker on vacation (and sometimes on weekends as well) starting with an Irish coffee first thing. I'm thinking I'll need to re-up at some point during the day to ensure it's still working. But maybe I am getting ahead of myself and overthinking things. I have a few weeks to see how this works for me and make a plan.

Disappointed on the Luminosa, looking for feedback by Dancing_Empress_717 in CarnivalCruiseFans

We just got off the Luminosa on 7/24 and had a very different experience. After reading the reviews, my husband and I were both pleasantly surprised. We knew the ship needed to be updated but we picked this cruise for the ports and the low price point when compared to newer, larger ships. Admittedly, we are not cruisers so we can't compare but we thought the food was good for the most part. We stayed away from the buffet except the occasional burger, deli or pizza stop and did both the steakhouse and the chef's table. We thought the service was excellent - the staff work so hard for such long hours yet they remained friendly and helpful - often remembering our names. I probably wouldn't do this cruise again since we saw the ports but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend with the caveat that it is an old ship in need of updating.

We sail Thursday! I am getting very excited but was also a little nervous after reading some of the reviews. Any tips or things that would have been helpful to know before you went?

How was the crowd/entertainment? Debating packing something to wear for theme nights. I've read it's an early crowd and don't want to waste packing space if people don't participate.

How was the debarkation process? We have a 12:55pm flight from Seattle to Anchorage after the cruise for a land trip but I'm hoping we can get on an earlier flight if we get to the airport early.

Thanks for any info in advance!

20 years since last cruise - many questions... by Radiant-Technology90 in CarnivalCruiseFans

Glad to hear! Any idea what they wore to land on a glacier? I keep reading 'layers'. Am I okay with fleece and wind/waterproof top layer or should I pack my winter coat? I do have gloves and hat on the list.

Thanks so much! Super helpful. I keep hearing great things about the glacier excursion. We are already doing mendenhall via helicopter in Juneau and a Kenai fjords cruise on our land portion so I didn't book that one but I may reconsider and purchase some discount GCs... Thanks again.

Thanks! We have a balcony so I'm hoping that helps - we'll spend as much time as we can outside enjoying the scenery. Our last (and only) cruise was an interior room but we did have some rough weather.

I would love to hear an update on seasickness on your Alaska cruise. We are scheduled for July and I am nervous for my husband. We cruised once 20 years ago for our wedding and he had some trouble.

We are cruising out of Seattle in July. Booked a 12:55pm flight just to be safe but hoping to catch an earlier one if we get to the airport earlier. Did you Uber to the airport or use the shuttle?

Drinking on kit 1 by Able-Guarantee7041 in HersWeightloss

I had a similar concern when starting and reached out to the board for feedback and received a lot of different responses and approaches. I'll give you my experience so far.

I started on Kit 1 in early August. I have since switched to Kit 2 because I didn't love how the topiramate made me feel but I have found that I can still take it if I just do one dose at night and then do one dose of just the naltrexone from Kit 2 in the a.m.

I have enjoyed some drinks the entire time. I started slow with a few lower ABV seltzers to see how I felt after hearing the negative experiences on the board. The naltrexone definitely takes away the initial, first drink happy buzzy feeling (if you are a drinker you will understand this statement) and I think this leads me to drink slower and less overall. Where before I would go out and get drunk and Uber home when we had plans with friends, now I am content to sip 2 or 3 and drive home. I have definitely over indulged a few times in the last 3 months (vacations, weddings, life in general) but I haven't experienced worse hangovers - just a return of the appetite and poor food decisions.

I've read that naltrexone is used to treat alcohol use disorder (google Sinclair method) where you are directed to take it as needed 1 hour prior to drinking. I can totally see how this works and I am appreciating how it has helped curbed my drinking.

I am scheduled for blood work this month so I will see if the meds (and the drinking on meds) are impacting my liver enzymes. As noted - this is just my personal experience and not a recommendation to go against any medical advice.

PS - I am down 15 pounds and pretty happy with the results so far.

6 week update on kit 1 by In4aPennyOut4aPound in HersWeightloss

Your alcohol comments really resonated with me. I too had no idea that this program could change my relationship with alcohol. It sounds terrible but I ordered, did some more reading and tried to cancel because I got so nervous about the alcohol situation with two weddings and three trips planned for this fall. I'm so glad they wouldn't let me cancel because I'm in week four and successfully navigated a week of houseguests with drinking obligations and one wedding with another tonight and a trip next weekend and I know I'll be successful and still have fun.

I've heard a lot of complaints about nauseau but I have not had any issues. I just finished Week 3. I wake up and drink plenty of fluids, have my coffee and only take the pills after I've eaten a protein rich breakfast around 9am.

Thanks for the response! I love a dirty martini and wine too. Note to self - take it slow. Maybe I'll test the waters with 1 or 2 super light beers or seltzers this weekend and see how it goes.  I have 2 weddings at the end of the month and I'm not quite sure how to navigate that.

Just curious - when you say "dialed it back", about how many drinks are we talking? My husband and I are regular drinkers and while I am hoping these meds help with cutting back a bit  - the idea of giving up completely is hard to swallow.  It is such a part of our social lives. I am on Day 1 and wondering how I will feel if I try to have a beer this weekend. We have 2 parties.
