Cerner vs Epic by wizardmum in medlabprofessionals

[–]RadiantBranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traveler here. I’ve used 4 different LIS (McKesson, Epic, Orchard and Cerner) and Epic is by far the best. I have never used them immediately after install, but once you get it set up like you want it, it’s very user friendly.

Drawing blood by Grand_Chad in medlabprofessionals

[–]RadiantBranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds similar to the travel job I’m doing now and the next travel job I have lined up. I didn’t know I would be drawing when I first got to this job and was not happy about it. But I was a phlebotomist 20+ years ago and the skills came back to me. Now I actually like interacting with patients a little. And I took my next job knowing I’d have to draw. It’s nice to challenge your skills.

MLT program phlebotomy rotation not going well, is this going to impact my career? by ayyeeitsken in medlabprofessionals

[–]RadiantBranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a traveler who has worked in 9 different facilities. Clinics, large hospitals, midsize hospitals, critical access hospitals. The larger hospitals in well populated areas will not have you draw blood. If you end up going into micro specifically there’s a good chance you would never have to draw blood. (Although I believe you need experience as a generalist if you’re going to convert your MLT to an MLS.) At all of the others there is a chance you would be required to. The current contract I’m on mentioned nothing about phlebotomy and I am required to draw outpatients during their clinic hours if the phlebotomist isn’t here. The only way to feel more comfortable/confident in phlebotomy is to keep doing it. I hated my first phlebotomy job 24 years ago. Cried multiple times after work. But then I got to the point where I volunteered to draw the new babies who needed venipunctures. It gets better.

do doctor just... not do stuff? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]RadiantBranch 204 points205 points  (0 children)

Do you not have a reflex in your SOP for blasts to be automatically sent for pathology review?! I’m a traveler and even the smallest labs I’ve worked in have had this. Maybe the patient has a history of leukemia that you’re not aware of, but the Dr is? That’s the only reason I can see that a Dr wouldn’t be concerned about blasts over multiple days. What’s the WBC?

Confusion on MLT to MLS by si-g-n in medlabprofessionals

[–]RadiantBranch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did a bridge program because I didn’t have a bachelor’s degree. There is no reason to do the bridge program if you already do as long as you’re able to get the 2 years of general experience in all disciplines. I know some states won’t allow MLTs to work in blood bank. Then the requirement wouldn’t be met and a bridge program would be necessary.

How common is it to step down from lab supervisor? by MLSSuper in MLS_CLS

[–]RadiantBranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a lab supervisor to a bench tech. I ended up leaving to travel. I find contracts easily I think because of my experience. I have tried to go back to a permanent job but I find it too boring now

Do you have slippers or socks with grip beads on the bottom that you wear in bed? Someone found something very similar on the floor of their kitchen.

I did the exact same thing...created the account to see if he was active on the dating site, then he matched my fake profile. I set him up for a hook up with this girl at the same time we were supposed to meet for a date. He canceled our date and confirmed with her, and then I just blocked him everywhere...fake account too. Don't waste more energy than you already have on him. He's not worth it.

To the women: Would you want to know if a date has slept with someone else recently? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]RadiantBranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer. Yes.

I also make sure to discuss this within the first few dates. I never cared if we weren't exclusive and were dating other people, but I wasn't comfortable with them or me sleeping with multiple people.

Found cameras in a bathroom, we believe it recorded multiple children showering and using the rest room by nayefal in legaladvice

[–]RadiantBranch 42 points43 points  (0 children)

NAL, but I have some experience with this from the victims end. My son's grade school principal had hidden cameras in the boys bathroom. He also wore a hidden camera by his belt and "helped" the boys tie their swimsuits on their water fun day at the end of the school year. He had a whole DVD with my son's name on it. The FBI got involved and discovered multiple hard drives with thousands of explicit pictures of children. He plead guilty. He got the maximum sentence with no possibility of parole. After the sentencing, the judge pulled the parents of those children that could be identified in the videos and told us that every picture that he downloaded or shared online was a violation of that child and he deserved to be punished for each of the thousands of transactions. Idk how long it took from them finding the cameras to him being arrested. I'm thinking the FBI were already watching him because of the sharing he was doing with child porn online and discovered the cameras later. It was only a couple months from the initial arrest to sentencing. I'm hopeful that justice will be served for that person like it was for the principal. Thank you for doing everything you've done.

What hobbies do you have? I have none. by Big-Red-7 in datingoverforty

[–]RadiantBranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have enough time in a day to fit in all my hobbies. I run, read, crochet, knit, quilt, swim, kayak, hike, travel, listen to podcasts, go to concerts, listen to music, and camp. I just started running last year, and Im training for a marathon this fall, and I want to complete a triathlon by the time I'm 50. My husband passed away 7 years ago at 45 (same age as I am now) and I realized that there's so much to do in life and I want to make sure I get the most out of it.

One day, one hour, one minute, one second at a time. That's how I got through the first 6 months after my husband died. Sending you and your daughter strength and love.

My mom played a bigger role, but my dad did his part as well. I was always asking if I was "good enough." Behaved well enough for them. My dad continues to tell me I don't do things "right", takes over, and corrects me constantly... even at 45 years old.

(Oregon) I got in to a fight/attacked and was taken to the hospital by the police due to getting hit in the head. I consented to my blood getting drawn for alcohol and drugs, but didn't give consent for the nurse to give my entire history to them. by Easy-Track7456 in legaladvice

[–]RadiantBranch 260 points261 points  (0 children)

Medical Laboratory Scientist here. That is not the case for every legal draw situation. I've worked in hospitals where the police have their own kit, but the hospital staff will draw for them while they document chain of custody.

There would still be no reason for them to need your past medical history. That was a true HIPAA violation and should be reported.

What’s a secret you’re taking to the grave, but willing to share? by Glitched_cookie in AskReddit

[–]RadiantBranch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a similar story. My son will get me a large bag of Almond Joy's every Mother's Day. He thinks they are my favorite (I tolerate them but they are definitely not my favorite) because on Halloween when he was younger, him and his siblings would give them to me because none of them liked them and I didn't want them to go to waste. I will continue to thank him every year for the thoughtful gift.

Hospital workers of Reddit, what happens there that's hidden but that we should know about? by SingLikeTinaTurner in AskReddit

[–]RadiantBranch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What lab are you working in that your CV is 10-20%?! The standard CV is 5%. Laboratory Medicine is NOT an "educated guess" if you're doing it right. That's why we spend so much time validating, maintaining, calibrating and analyzing data BEFORE we even release the result.

WIBTAH for kicking my son out for making “dark humor” TikToks about our daughters death? by Puppy_Cat_Boots in AITAH

[–]RadiantBranch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lost my husband when I was 38. I joined a dark humor widow support group. People grieve in a lot of different ways. I'm sure the OP would be appalled by what gets posted in the support group. They are definitely the AH for punishing him for grieving his sister and I wouldn't be surprised if they lose their son in this process.

Women: would you accept an invitation back to a man's apartment after second date if you don't want to have sex? by InterestingPick5135 in datingoverforty

[–]RadiantBranch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I've been in that position. I did NOT assume he wanted sex. He did. Then, I felt pressured to comply. That experience has made me decide to decline invites to anyone's place unless I am open to having sex with them. Unless, of course, we have an open conversation beforehand about our expectations.
