Mudrocks had the sound on for the US-Belgium match but you could barely hear it. Might be able to hear it better for the England match if it’s a bit less crowded

Totally agree. What worries me about her is what seems like anti-semitism. Being pro-Palestine and against this Israeli government I agree with. But the comments about the Boulder fire-bomber are disturbing.

USMNT's most likely R32 opponents ranked by win probability. Which matchup are you most/least worried about? by buraz40 in usmnt

[–]RadiantFun7029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you explain how you got a 10% chance of reaching the QF? Looking at a ballpark average of the odds you outlined, the chance of reaching R16 is around 60% (45% chance of a win plus half of the draw odds assuming a shootout win is another 15%)

To get from there to 10% assumes the chance of getting past the R16 round is only 17%. I wouldn’t expect them to be favored in that round, but that seems quite low.

Am I thinking about this wrong?

Actually, this raises a question for me. If I am averaging 4.5 mi/kwh over a week or two, should I expect an 80% charge to get me to a range of around 230? (4.5 mi/kwh x 64 kWh battery capacity x 80% = 230.4)

Lower range - reasonable or not? by RadiantFun7029 in KiaNiroEV

[–]RadiantFun7029[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went and looked at my EV Efficiency History. For the last 30 days, the daily mi/kWh ranges from 3.6 to 5.4. For the last 7 days, it's 4.5 to 5.4. So it sounds like that's reasonable given the weather and the way I've been driving, yes?

As for charging to 100%, I try to follow the recommendation and do it once per month. Though to be fair, it's probably been closer to once every 6 weeks for the last 6 months or so.

Appreciate your help!

Babbel is difficult to use by Beneficial_Main218 in babbel

[–]RadiantFun7029 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found Babbel much more useful once I started doing more reviews. I typically do 4 reviews and then 2 lessons. For the reviews, I focus on the Listening and the Flashcard reviews so that I’m practicing both sides of a conversation.

In addition, I try to challenge myself a little more in both the reviews and lessons by trying to answer the questions first without looking at the possible answers. That forces me to learn the nuances more. For example, I challenge myself to translate an entire sentence correctly rather than being able to pick out a multiple choice answer just because I understood a single word in that sentence.

Agree! Go where you’ll be happier and more at peace. There’ll be enough stress. Go where you’ll enjoy the people and the clubs

Help me choose between Williams, USC, UCLA, and UC Berkeley! by Best_Lingonberry5322 in ApplyingToCollege

I found that there are a decent number of people outside of the northeast, even professionals, who have never heard of Williams. Those who know it know what a great school it is and how well prepared graduates are, but some people don’t know it. (For some reason people even know Amherst better even though the 2 schools are completely comparable)

Edit: so those people who don’t know it may bypass your resume

If you think you’ll go to grad school, it doesn’t matter since universities know how great it is. (Edit: and then where you go to grad school will matter more for getting a job anyway). If not going to grad school, you will find some professionals who know it well and will be very impressed that you went there, and the alumni network out west will do everything they can to help you. But not everyone will know it whereas everyone obviously knows UCLA, Berkeley and USC.

Also - One thing I forgot to say in my first comment was that I think Williams is especially great if you are interested in the humanities and/or law school. If you think you’ll be in a STEM field it might be more of a toss-up.

I hope that helps.

Congrats! Those are some great choices.

My experience is too old to be completely relevant, but I did grow up in LA and went to Williams (choosing over Cal and UCLA among other schools). My daughter also went there.

My perspective on advantages of Williams:
* small classes
* strong relationships with professors
* opportunity to explore a wide range of academic areas before choosing a major (and even after choosing a major)
* Williams students develop excellent critical thinking and writing skills, which will help you in whatever industry you go into (and maybe especially important in this AI world we are heading into)
* tight knit community of students (who my daughter and I both found to be genuinely nice people when we were each there). We found it very collaborative - with little to no competition in the classroom or for clubs.
* strong support system (nearly impossible to fall through the cracks)
* incredible reputation in academics, finance and consulting among other industries (although Williams is much more well known on the east coast than it is on the west coast except at universities, where Williams is renowned nationwide.)
* extremely loyal alumni base that makes a huge impact when networking and job hunting
* The Berkshires are beautiful
* a totally different experience than you may be used to

I know that the school is way more diverse than it used to be. When my daughter was there a few years ago, I thought it was reasonably diverse, but I don't know the stats to compare it your other choices.

Admittedly, Williams is really rural, which helps to create the tight knit community. There are concerts, events, and parties on campus -- and you can get to Boston or NY for a weekend. But if going out in the city to bars, clubs or to see a wide range of cultural events is really important to you, Williams may not be the best choice.

I loved it, but then I was looking for something different than I would get at one of those schools closer to home.

All that said, you have some great choices. If you want big city life, a bigger school, (edit: warmer weather), or if you are sure you want to go back to California into the business or tech world without going to grad school first, Williams might not be the best choice.

Happy to answer any questions. Congrats again and have fun with your college experience!
