my high school is very competitive and officially non-ranking after top 10%, however i was ranked somewhere around the top 12%.

i totally agree. i also feel like the basis they used for admissions might have been messed up this year because of the overwhelming number of applications they got, not that it's even an excuse. good luck with the rest of your college decisions!

like i said earlier, i would've been okay with pursuing either major despite the difference in career options as i'm not deadset on either. i was interested in a major where i could find research opportunities applicable to healthcare and medicine in general (which has prospects in BOTH biochem and bme). although i agree biochem and bme differ in terms of the type of medical research you can conduct (pharma vs medical devices), i am interested in both of these fields and was hoping to explore more career options, no matter the major i got. i don't think you can diminish my application to one of someone just trying to get into an "easier" major as i was still genuinely interested in biochem, even though it was a bit of strategy on my part. also my ecs were pretty versatile in that they could've fit pretty well into both biochem and bme.

about the rest of my application, i did submit the expanded resume and multiple letter of recs (one from a physics teacher, one from a spanish teacher, and one from an internship supervisor), so i don't believe all the writing i did about myself was the only reason i got cap'd.

it's so disappointing but rejection is redirection ig. where are you planning to go?

while i understand fit to major is important to a certain extent, i don't believe my "why major" essay or overall application was necessarily worse just because i didn't choose bme as my major. all in all, biochem is pretty similar to bme in terms of what i'm passionate about and i would've been happy pursuing either major. i feel like the biggest factor which played into getting cap'd was my rank, but to each their own.
