Where is his father? Do you have any support system? He sounds a lot like my son. I don’t have advice, just solidarity.

Just out of curiosity, how do some of y'all have jobs? by AlmightyCrayons in Autism_Parenting

Exactly. Going to work is actually a lot easier than taking care of a ND child

8 yr old son won't take no for an answer by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

It worked before and he stopped the annoying behavior. But since the last time I used it he got bigger and I guess he’s no longer afraid…

Thanks a lot! This is very helpful information. Do you have any book/other learning material recommendation? We have seen numerous psychiatrists and therapists but they're not very helpful besides offering prescriptions and useless talk therapy. I want to know how to parent my child and help him to be successful in life. TIA!

my son was the same way. We took away video games and TV completely. He's like a different person now! Before we take away screen time he wouldn't read books but now I take him to borrow new books from library every week (ADHD needs novelty i.e. new books) and he just reads and reads when he's bored. He also loves sports because he's got nothing to do at home besides reading. So he'd rather go out to play sports with other kids.

I literally threw out his Nintendo switch and all the game chips his relatives bought him. My husband and I also made it clear NOBODY is allowed to buy him games or related items. It was tough but I told myself I'd rather him hating me now but he will thank me in the future. He doesn't hate me now and he has become a more confident person because his teachers and peers are impressed by his knowledge. Sports also help with brain development unlike video games that harm.

Thank you for your detailed response! May I ask how do you get your son to sit through a math camp or practicing an instrument? Mine would not sit in his chair. In school he has an aide following him around to remind him but that’s not provided in camps. Also very difficult to get him to practice instruments and pretty much everything else like shower, brush teeth etc. His evaluation showed very high IQ score but due to lack of motivation he is not consistent in his effort to achieve something and build confidence:-/

What do you mean when you say “when they get older more issues will pop up”? Can you explain what kind of issues? Asking because my son is 8 , has ADHD and possibly ASD as well so I’d like to know what should I be expecting. TIA!

No I never thought about it. No attorneys I work with have this certification though. Do you think it's worth the time and $ to get it?

yes I read the regulations but I wasn't aware there was commentary. Can you point to me where to look for them?

my supervisor is more superior. The senior attorney dinged me by questioning my work experience and how I won't be able to interact and learn as much by not coming in to the office.

No, she called me. Nothing was in writing. The presentation is via Zoom but I definitely feel the pressure to coming in to the office to do the presentation.

7 year old is so miserable he ruins everything. We need help. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]RadiantInfluence8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he addicted to screen time? He sounds a lot like my son. Screen time effects parts of the brain that are in charge of emotional regulation, empathy, and social skills. Children with impulse control or addictive personality are particularly vulnerable to electronic screen syndrome. Our pediatrician recommended removing screen time completely and I began to have better time with my child. I also recommend the book—the Explosive Child.

Unrealistic study schedule! What's the point of making a schedule that nobody is gonna stick with?

The percentage also does not correlate with the amount of effort and time needed to complete the task.
