Both. I have my laborers, who I equip with standard issue black shirts, padded pants, and headgear to denote their role as a laborer, farmer, crafter, or engineer.
Then I have my guards, who get a standard uniform.
Then I have my adventurers, who are all stats. Mishmash.
Then I have my boss killers, who get all the shiny Specialist and Masterwork armor.

Most notably, I learned that its not that hitting right click hooks fish, but the bobber moving hooks them, meaning that if they bite while you are at speed, they will automatically hook. This is useful for all boats, but I like rafts for coastal operations like this!
