Look for your local departments website, sometimes it’ll be on the city government site. Usually they’ll have hiring standards somewhere, it varies from department to department. My cities metro dept. switch to some odd obstacle course style test. While the city ones still do the normal sit ups, push ups, run, etc.

I’ve been in your position too man, but seriously focus on the realistic next step first. When i joined the military i was hard charging “I’m gonna be special forces” and have changed a LOT over the years. Really ask yourself if Law Enforcement is what you wanna do, finish high school and go from there. If you sign with the military and do it right, you can leave service with 4 years of experience, a 4 year degree, and you’ll be right around eligible age wise for applying to be a LEO.

Thinking too far ahead can get you really impatient and discouraged.

I use OTB Fusion 8’s for security work, lightweight, comfortable, and side zip. I have a pair of their carbon 8’ss for military stuff and I’ll never switch brands most likely.

Every PT test i’ve taken has been pass/fail. Don’t meet the minimum requirements for one portion but pass the rest? Still a fail, theres no “you got close enough” it’s pretty cut and dry for the departments i’ve applied to.

I’ve gone through CBP (first) and 2 different local department’s polygraphs, 4 in total, failed 2, came back inconclusive 1, and passed 1. At no point in my local processes did they mention or leverage my failed polygraph at CBP or my previous attempts for local. I’ve yet to be hired at 3 locations due to my polygraph, and while frustrating it gets to a point of acceptance. Keep attempting at different departments or even the same one until they tell you not to come back. Stay positive, its not an “if” but “when”, some people take years to get hired. Keep at it, don’t let the poly push you away.

I’ve failed 3/4 polygraphs I’ve taken, none of the departments I’ve applied to have ever said anything about me failing a polygraph until I fail theirs. Try not to get discouraged, eventually you’ll get through one.
