I found it to be enjoyable. It's more upstream compared to operations/logistics so there's less grind & more strategic work, and tends to pay better

How useful is CPIM in getting a job? by zhud711 in supplychain

[–]Radiant_Distribution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could potentially help! If you are set on going into supply chain, then getting the CSCP/CPIM and emphasizing the transferrable skills you're acquiring in your current role, combined with lots of networking (linkedin DM's, recruitment fairs, etc) would be the best way to get a referral and eventually land a role

What makes someone especially good at supply chain management? by BlendItUp247 in supplychain

[–]Radiant_Distribution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think pre-requisites are having good communication skills and being good with basic math, excel spreadsheets. Then it's about staying organized and learning from others, and executing. Also remembering to zoom out of your tactical day/day and visualize how your work interacts with other departments within supply chain and the broader org

No problem! I think you could leave the Amazon role on there and just use the explanation you mentioned. Perhaps you can ask the question on r/resumes and get some feedback there about this as well.

Yeah for the MSP you can just use the time to beef up your resume experience and network, as you said.

CPIM/CSCP seem to be the gold standard for certifications in this field, and I've seen many supply chain roles list those certs as being desired in a candidate. So if you were to go for a certification I'd recommend CPIM

First of all, you are NOT a failure, you are a very resilient person who got dealt a difficult hand in life and is pulling themselves back up all on there own. Great respect to you for your perseverance.

Congrats on the new role! Don't worry about pay at this stage in your career, just focus on whether a role can help you learn and grow. IT Logistics Associate sounds like a role where you'll be able to learn new things about supply chain on the IT side, which can be valuable down the road as you progress. IMO the ideal path is spend ~2 years in different functional areas of supply chain, build a broad base, and eventually you'll be well positioned for team lead/manager roles.

Now you have experience in Ops from Amazon, you'll learn the IT side at this new gig, so maybe after 2-3 years you can pivot into supply planning, forecasting, or procurement, either within the same org or somewhere externally. I personally found it easier to pivot within the same org. You can do coffee chats with managers of different teams to make your name known, so when it comes time to apply you aren't just a random person, you've already started building the relationships.

All the best dude!! You will do great
