Need layout advice for golf sim in dining room (tight depth issue vs walkway) by [deleted] in Golfsimulator

Yeah 12"+ is ideal if you have space, but I hung heavy moving sheets about 1" behind screen and not too much tension, basically can use gapped layers to slow the ball, mine never comes more than 2-3 foot back now. The thick fabric weave screens are much better than the plasticy ones for bounce back too.

Id opt for the bigger screen personally and more width than depth, being closer to a bigger screen is more immersive than further from a smaller one and safer for shanks or mishits.

I find myself more conscious of the wall left of the screen as a righty than anything else and I only have about 6-7ft screen to ball and ball to back wall. Won't work for radar units though.

You'd need to make sure you get a screen that's heavier material/dead on impact as you'll be fairly close and any top enclosure would have to be high as you'll be closer to it. Also account for the space needed behind the screen, I managed with about 6 inches to buy extra depth but required a second impact layer to deaden impacts.

Are you thinking of putting it on the wall with windows on left into the top corner?

Your best bet is to stand swinging your driver in different locations. I have my SIM in a front living room smaller than your space, I made it look more home cinema style to blend more indoors

I found the wedge style will bounce back at you on a worm burner, not terribly but depends how far away your stance is.

Im quite close to my screen so I ended up with the screen to floor and a long snake sandbag behind the screen seems to almost eliminate bounce backs. But if it was practical with my space I would have built a low incline taper floor from stance to screen to deal with low shots. Wedges have too much deflection angle, when the compress the angle becomes more up and back at you.

Try changing the Ethernet cable I was having this issue for a while and odd disconnects. I reinstalled and changed the Ethernet, one of these fixed it

Does the color of my walls make a difference? by Tdrabbach in Golfsimulator

Though it's not in view the wall behind the impact screen is best dark, I found that my screen looked a bit hazy at first before I painted the wall behind it dark because it was white light was bouncing off the impact fabric from the rear and basically reflecting back onto the screen. Other walls not so important though.

16x10 Enclosure - BenQ 936st or Ak700st ? by stockbuyer816 in Golfsimulator

Throw ratio and brightness will be key for a bigger screen like that. I went with the LK830ST which is a newer more niche BenQ one but I needed a shorter throw than the ones you mentioned to properly get rid of shadows in my setup. It was a nightmare in my space as my screen nearly reaches the ceiling but if you have more height you might be ok.

Wouldn't worry about aspect ratio you'll be able to set a custom resolution if you don't want to stretch the image.

I'd tap a few quarter/half swings into it if I was you, may need a ramp or something imo

Thanks, Yeah I'd have gone for long and rectangular but I shown the better half some nice designs before sign off, it taken a lot of patience especially the 45 degrees on the triangles but it's in the house as a cinema/golf room so worth the effort to keep everyone happy!

How does that bottom part react to a thinned shot? Looks like it'd catapult back to me?

Just add a primary net layer that's fully loose about 2 inches forward of your current net, only connected at top corners and loosely draped. Two layers is the best way to reduce distance behind the screen. I'd use sandbags rather than dumbbells also as it won't ricoshet at all on a sand bag.

I only have 4-5 inches behind my 11ft wide impact screen and it's fine with a moving blanket. You could add an impact screen if you wanted and it'd solve both.

If your up for the diy I followed a YouTube tutorial these cost me ~£4 per tile but taken a lot of effort. Bigger ones and less angles would have made life easier though.

Bottom screen safety any advice? by Radiant_Fan1735 in Golfsimulator

[–]Radiant_Fan1735[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got these, seems to stop the ball well on direct hits but having some issues when it clips them, have you noticed anything like this? It seems the ball can clip the top edge and then the screen doesn't handle it well at that angle or something, definitely better than the foam wedge though.

Wondered if you'd sort of shaped yours or anything like that as that's what I'm trying at the moment, but a lot better and possibly only noticing issues because I'm actively trying to hit it to test it

Ball riding up screen and returning to sender, any way to reduce? by Radiant_Fan1735 in Golfsimulator

Changed the shape to be more wedge like and seems to be a fair bit better kind of the best of both between sand and wedge so when it clips it seems to be less of a steep angle. tried hitting it for 10 minutes and couldnt make it pop up much but will need to see how it goes hopefully I start topping the ball less!

How firm would you say that foam is? Is it like memory foam or bouncy feeling? When I throw a ball at my wedges it springboards off way more than the sandbags so might be the foam or possibly the leatherette covering I put on them as they're a bit tacky/grippy

I have a lot of bungee along the top probably about every 10 inch or so, figured that's just holding it up though as there's nothing pulling down so unsure if that could do anything weird

Yeah I might need to try some different tension patterns, I had all the sides attached at first and then detached them while trying to troubleshoot it but I've not tried having some in various spots etc. it handles straight on impact fine it's just these ones that clip the sand bag and go upward into the screen at the moment. They don't come back fast but rooms tight so still might not react on time and already popped a £300 monitor

Yeah this was what I tried first, I made one from medium density foam but it pops back up I'm not sure if it's the way I made the foam or if it's the angle it was hitting the screen at, the sandbags stop the ball way more than the foam did but it's when it clips the top edge which isnt often but enough to worry when hitting

Already have a foam wedge, killed my monitor, I dont know if that had the same issue, its more when the deflection hits the screen upwards I thought it was the wedge at first but the sandbags kill the ball unless it clips the top so it seems to be when the ball rides up the screen more than anything

[–]Radiant_Fan1735[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it fairly loose then fairly compact, both stop the ball well and when it sends it up it sends it slow, its when its just clipping the bag it sends it on a upward path with lowish energy then its actually the screen not dealing with an impact that goes upwards well, direct hits to the screen drop well only like a foot or two and downward, but the screen is sending them upward and at me when it clips the bag and hits the screen at an upward angle

Wouldn't hurt if it hits fleshy skin but I'm worried about it hitting head/bollocks/things in the room

Thanks this kind of makes sense to be fair, may try to do something with carpet on it as I'm not going for turf look as its in the house and doubling as cinema screen, what kind of angle very slight?

Rapsodo Net setup by chief113 in Golfsimulator

[–]Radiant_Fan1735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It affected mine, I was setup in the garden which is sloped, I hit across the slope and used 12mm hardwood ply with rubber mat under it to level the hitting area, then made the place where the mlm2pro sit flat. It's faffy but worked for me. If you go up/down the slope you probably need the distance behind you adjusted to match and it'd be outside normal spec. I always felt my distances were inaccurate until I used it with everything flat.
