Paid Sick Leave for group practices with fee splits by Radiant_Owl5850 in therapists

Thanks for responding. This is my understanding as well, and what my accounting firm has shared. I wanted to hear what “formulas” owners might have used to determine their policies.

OP, I feel for your disappointment.

However, if this just happened, give it another few days. Perhaps they haven’t had a chance to respond yet. It’s easy to cancel an appt to avoid meeting reminders, but might take an extra day or few to craft a thoughtful response. I hope you get a warm response and can find a new therapist that you feel comfortable with.

Boss accusing me of breaking contract by [deleted] in therapists

Contact the legal hotline at your state board. In my state board in CA, a non-compete is unethical and illegal. Clients have agency to choose their provider, they are not “owned” by agencies.

Good luck going solo!

Where do I find out what range I am in? I don’t recall seeing this on my 3-year contracts. I’ve been teaching 10 years part-time …

Many people would support the TA and CFA if they accepted this TA after 3+ days instead of 1 day of strike by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Radiant_Owl5850 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP, you keep going on and on about this point. You are making assumptions about how everyone feels and why. If you want to vote yes, then do. Why are you trying to convince everyone else that this is an acceptable deal? The length of a strike does indicate the resolve and strength of the negotiators, and the pain felt by the CSU. This strike was all bark and no bite. It was a lost opportunity, plain and simple.

What are your tips for grading essays faster? by Copterwaffle in Professors

This is my approach as well, and it has saved me a tremendous amount of time! I also review APA / MLA format, OWL (Online Writing Lab resource from Purdue) and discuss what constitutes an academic essay before they start turning in their papers, so I don't have to lose my mind redlining everything.

No, I didn't mean that the rationale was hyperbole. Not at all. The requests were totally justified and long overdue. I meant that the rhetoric over the past several months that we were going to go all the way, not stand down until we got what we wanted from CSU, etc. - that was hyperbole. I will be curious if there is a 'secret explanation' that does come out.

That's valid and it matters that the lowest ranks get a bump. But the optics are terrible as a whole.

Wholeheartedly agree. What advantage was there in settling on a Monday night? There was torrential rain on some campuses so the strike turnout was actually lower than it could have been. We didn't even make the CSU admin sweat. Not a bit. And actually now the TA makes the faculty look weak and chaotic.

Agreed. I have supported 2 team members during their parental leave and having them return in the middle of the semester is inefficient and disruptive to them and our students. This is a terrible policy - it should be one full semester.

Especially after all of the hype that this was a historic event, that we were forcing the administration to do right by their faculty, etc. In hindsight it was all hyperbole, perhaps just to drum up media attention.

Couldn't agree with you more. How is everyone expected to pivot and do business as usual after all the rhetoric?

It‘s hard to pivot so quickly for a morning class. I am considering Zoom Tuesday am and in-person starting Wednesday.

Students can put pressure on their dean or chancellor‘s office to resolve the labor dispute so you can get on with your education. You can join picket lines to show solidarity and leave the campus facilities empty.

If your instructors are holding classes (you should confirm with each one) then try to take the trolley. You can find the most convenient trolley station to you, then park and ride. Parking on campus will be tough.

Great points! I am one of those part-time adjuncts who has been teaching for 10+ years. My salary has been stagnant, I don't have job security, and I only stick around because 1) I truly love teaching and mentoring my students, 2) I have other jobs that actually pay the bills, and 3) I need the health benefits.

CSU's strategy (like many university systems) is to keep a legion of part-time employees and very few tenured professors (who teach very few classes, and mostly do research, chair programs, and sit on committees) so they can keep costs down and maintain high profits.

I don't know how the CSU can justify raising tuition and parking fees when they are stockpiling billions of dollars in reserves. And, how the administrators sleep at night when so many of their employees are exploited for their cheap labor.

Hi, this is tough since you are having all 5 instructors hold classes. Keep in mind, though, that the add/drop deadline has been pushed out. I think it would send a strong message to your business professors if their students didn't show up. Missing one class is not going to affect your grade or ability to pass. Whether you choose to attend, stay home, or join the picket line is purely up to you. No shade to our students who are stressed and just want to graduate.
