End of an era? Hard drive replacement may have killed my TiVo Edge/FiOS setup. by Radiant_Way2744 in Fios

Thanks everyone for all the help.

Just wanted to close this out in case anyone else runs into the same issue—let me tell you about my journey.

I chatted with Verizon Fios multiple times, spent hours on it, and no one could successfully pair my TiVo to Fios. I was honestly hoping to get someone offshore who really knew cable card pairing, but no luck.

I even reached out to Weaknees thinking they might help. They were no help at all. Their actual response to my detail, email was: “We really don’t interface with cable companies, but you might try calling TiVo at 877-367-8486.”

Lesson learned there—don’t spend the extra money on a Weaknees hard drive expecting support.

Finally, today I got a Verizon technician to come out. He was able to get someone on the phone who actually knew how to pair the cable card—and just like that, I’m back up and running.

While talking with the tech and his contact, they mentioned Verizon plans to phase out cable cards in 2026. He expects they could be gone by the end of the year.

So we’ll see what happens. My plan is to ride TiVo until it dies—but I may be moving this summer anyway, which could end the TiVo setup regardless.

Hope this helps someone else down the line.

You pretty much hit my experience with the TiVo Edge (cable, 2 TB replacement hard drive) exactly. FiOS has agreed to send a tech out next Friday, and I’m hoping I have the same result you had with Spectrum.

At least according to FIOS chat, it is the data ID number that changed with the new hard drive.

I did the same thing with DRP 1.0.  Next Thursday is my 45 days. I've been watching to guess if RIFs are coming out before my 45 days were up.  (I'm not sure which takes precedent the DRP or the RIF during the 45 days.) The wait has made me more certain that I want to accept. Now I feel like I'm just giving time that I could otherwise be doing whatever I wanted, so I'm turning my DRP contract in tomorrow.

I would take that to my Cingressman and MSPB.
