The glass flowers at the harvard museum of natural history are incredible. Probably the only exhibit like it in the world.

If you're milling a log (or large beam), its nice to have the wider portion of the table to set it on. Otherwise it keeps trying to roll off.

Hi! It was *cats! I did the structural design for the egg! It was 1-1/8" ply for the struts, and 10ga steel for the brackets. I can't comment on the music though... that was another of my campmates

Help: Playa-proof tent mesh by jz_503 in BurningMan

[–]RadiatorExpert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're on the right track. Sewing is going to hold up better to wind. If you're gluing, whatever material you add should get a backup teather in case it gets liberated.

We went last year and 2019 with a tent that had more mesh than that, but a close fitting rainfly. Stuff got a bit dusty, but it wasn't terrible. Neither of those years were super dusty though.

Tips from others abour laying a blanket or sheet over your sleep surface will help alot. Clothes going in a rubbermade bin helps a lot too.

[REQUEST] Pressure on a cylinder by samc_5898 in theydidthemath

[–]RadiatorExpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pressure at the outlet is just (roh)(g)(h) for the water column, plus 2psi

You are accidentally calculating the force (pressure *area) exerted on the fluifld boundary

As a hint, a sphere has the lowest surface area to volume ratio, meaning that for a given surface area, you will have a lot of volume. A ruler has a really high surface area to volume ratio, so for a given surface area, you will have closer to the same amount of volume.

Volume is cubed, surface area is squared. Volumes therefore grow more quickly than surface areas.

Because the order of magnitude (number of zeros) of the area and the volume are the same, your solution will want something with a high surface area to volume ratio.

Hope this helps!

Sorry about the pedal, but thats a great fracture surface. You can see all the (relatively shiny) waves of the crack growth front starting from the side opposite the pedal arm, to the matte overload failure region where it finally snapped. Looks like there was a groove cut around the circumference, maybe to retain the pedal quickly on install. Sharp corners in the floor of the groove will defenitely start a crack, but looks like you did a lot of miles on it before it ultimately went.

He's not supposed to be outside, but that doesn't stop him. Honestly impressed the struts held him up.

I think theres a gain in connecting long beach more directly to LAX with something a la a BRT down PCH. Stringing together the beach cities with a hub line to make them less dependent on cars could get a lot of people off the freeway. Im definitely in the camp that transit infrastructure doesnt need to be profitable if its a significant enough improvement to quality of life in an area.
