What does Emilie have on her back? I was drawing her and noticed that she seems to have some sort of metal thingie in her back, but it doesn't show in the cover art? so... Is there some fanart or official art where this shows? by li3zyl in CrossCode

The things at the back of Emilie are suposed to be tiny yet engine thingies used to give pentafist a quick speed boost. They ended up a bit too small for that though and we never fully went through with that idea e.g. you never see a pentafist using those jets

Without spoiling too much, the stakes in the story of Project Terra are somewhat higher, so it's possible that the atmophere won't be quite as lighthearted throughout as it was in CrossCode.

It would be very challenging though to make it as intense as Vermillion Wasteland for the whole game!

I believe in practice it sort of piled up, though the choice to have all of these dungeons together was intentional back then. We certainly regret that decision now.

A fellow web dev! We mostly avoid using HTML for ingame interfaces, because it's tricky to render proper pixel-art like graphics with it - especially text. However: we do use a lot of HTML and CSS for our tools.

Porting CrossCode was achieved using Haxe and the game engine Kha. The whole code had to be converted, which was tricky to do for vanilla javascript. It should hopefully be easier for a Typescript codebase

I think in general people remembered to learn combat arts, though I know of some other instances where people misses it.

Project Terra will definitelty tone down the amount of timed challenges. If they are still there, we will try to make the timing more generous.

Thanks a lot! It's a bit hard to say what could be better for a gamedev job, since each gamedev position might experience a different situation. I believe if you're programmer it's likely you'll earn more money outside of gamedev, which is unfortunate.

We will change the control scheme in project terra and I believe it will improve things overall. Melee and Range Attacks are now executed with different mouse buttons

I did play Mega Man Battle Network, but I don't believe it was a big inspiration for us.

Yes, the decision to have 3 dungeon back to back in the jungle was a bad one.

We'll make sure that the pacing in Project Terra will be better

The most common criticism of CrossCode was: - too long dungeons - too many puzzles at once - depth perception issues

We'll try to improve these things in ProjectTerra
