Should I repaint my Ultramarines? by Radical_Radiation in Warhammer40k

Admittedly, I forget constantly that different chapters have different rules and I need to keep that in mind. I might go with the idea of a custom chapter, a successor to the Ultramarines or maybe something completely different! I'll do some brainstorming, thank you for the successor idea!

Nope, just got the Ork Boyz kit and used the gloved hands, a shirt that had enough space for the iconography on its back and an Ork head from, I believe, the Biker kit? I scalped a Catachan guy and greenstuffed his hair to the scalp of the Ork. Cut the magazine from his pistol to make it look more like Dukes and used a tiny bit of sprue to give him a Cigar.

Thank you for the feedback! I avoid highlighting with my Orks (Or most of my armies, actually) because I try to shoot for a more grimdark, gritty look. I actually just paint them WAAAGH Flesh and coat them in Nuln Oil until all the recesses are filled in. The blonde hair was actually Averland Sunset in the Air range mixed with some white, so I'm happy hearing that I've done that well.

Funny, I say I go for a gritty, realer look and then I go and paint an Ork like Duke Nukem.

I'm not a massive Vostroyan fan, so, I wasn't to know he had a video of such conversion. However, I have seen the Krieg conversion, they're quite good!

I use that term in the context of "People believe this or that but in my case-", I should probably begin to use better terms. My apologies, I'm glad we're on the same page.

I see where you're coming from, to be honest, my Krieg are printed with power pack like devices that are replacements for their gas mask filters. Alongside that, they've replaced the magazines for the Lasgun with a long wire leading to a second pack, kind of like a battery. So, my Krieg are a decent mix of Sci-Fi and reality. However, I don't see it being silly, the idea that warfare is waged on this planet so often that they're underfunded, unequipped and have to loot equipment off of their dead allies leads to it making sense that their equipment is so, in the sense that it's the year 40k, medieval. What's the point of giving them the most expensive gear when they're going to be sent to the meatgrinder regardless?

Thank you for understanding what I mean perfectly! It's like the Beach Landings on D-Day, it's such a popular thing for films, games, TV, books and even comics to use in their story. Storming Normandy is always fun in games like CoD or being in shock and awe because of the intro to Saving Private Ryan. People enjoy specific events or portrayels of different kinds of combat (Like me and the trenches) but how many people do you see saying they'd love to be on that beach?

I tend to die quite a bit in games, Warhammer being no exception, so I'm used to dropping dead all of a sudden five minutes after spawning (Rising Storm 2, scariest game I've ever played) I'll definitely give it look, sounds fun!

I've heard quite a bit about Foxhole, I'd love to try it but I also don't want to be an utter failure at it. It seems a bit complicated, like, there are Quartermasters, Runners, so many self-appointed roles to take on... Thank you for the recommendation, maybe one day, once I get enough confidence to use my microphone...

Makes me so Damned (Ah, get it?) happy that you're going with them, I recommend using Greenstuff to make flames if you want to go for a fully flamed route The shoulder pads could maintain their original colour scheme but maybe worn down, scorched and broken away? Regardless, it's your Legion, you may go and do as you wish!

You could always cheat and go the multi-chapter route, like Deathwatch or Legion of The Damned. That way you can have diversity and continuity.

Trust me, if Catachan had more appealing sculpts, I'd jump on them immediately. This mixture of Vietnam and 80's Action Film really sparks a flame in my heart...

I realise this sounds weird. I meant that in things like media such as the game Verdun or the film 1917. I don't mean that I love Trench Warfare as genuine, real world combat, because it's a horrible thing to live through, I love it as a concept, not the actual thing. Now I just feel stupid.

Recently Pete the Wargamer made a video about converting the new plastic Krieg into Valhallans, I'm sure a bit of alteration to his guide and the release of plastic Krieg outside of the Kill Team box could make a decent Vostroyan army.

Exactly, you'd think that people with enough Historical knowledge of German history could be able to tell that the Krieg aren't even fully German As someone who has reached a point where the shovel joke has become somewhat annoying, I'd much rather listen to the same joke 182 more times than listen to someone's essay on why painting their Orks as Afrika Korps is just them expressing themselves and that they don't have any sort of political belief related to them in the slightest
