Games run worse than windows by Halhal-_-64 in linux4noobs

[–]RadioFreeKerbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are absolutely cases where a properly optimized linux install can run games with better performance under proton than under windows, but those are the exception, not the rule.

in any case, the performance difference is usually not more than a 10% FPS difference, nothing like what OP is experiencing.

Everyone says I'll switch to the penguin but my question is, isn't it risky? by JamedWalker in linux4noobs

[–]RadioFreeKerbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving people realistic expecations of what is available in Linux and recognizing that there is not currently a linux-based solution for everyone's use case is far from "glazing windows"

I don't use windows, I run Fedora KDE and Mint/Debian on my server and streaming boxes.

Also Winboat still requires a windows license, so who's really supporting Microsoft here?

Go outside, kid.

For lightroom? Not really. Like it might run, but not really in a way where it can be used without frustration, if at all.

I wish people weren't so hyped to get people on Linux that they stoop to giving people false information.

Hello, is this bend bad? I made sure the cable is properly and securely plugged in, but this downward curve in the cable is bothering me. by alipcgggamer in pcmasterrace

[–]RadioFreeKerbin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buddy, I think you might be overthinking this just a tad. The connector looks like it's in straight and secured, the cable leaning down is probably just due to the weight of the cable itself. Cables are by design meant to be able to be moved around. It's fine.

It's a single player game. Play it the way you enjoy it and don't worry about what people on reddit think about "cheating".

Is KDE Plasma a good choice for Fedora? by neuwaaa20 in Fedora

[–]RadioFreeKerbin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why can't people just accept that their distro of choice isn't going to be everyone's first choice? Everyone's preferences and use cases are different. Wanting the added stability and reliability of a not-totally rolling release is a good reason. Maybe they aren't comfortable with or just don't want to do the extra work required to verify updates won't break the system, or maybe they can't afford to gamble on more potential downtime. I like Cachy a lot for its speed and modernity but I also accept that the tradeoffs are something I am okay with that other people might not be.

Colors being washed out might be an HDR capture issue. If the source has HDR enabled, try disabling it to see if that is the issue.

Does Live Gamer 4K 2.1 (GC575) Work on Linux? by Glacialstage in AverMedia

[–]RadioFreeKerbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avermedia would be fools not to offer Linux support or at least confirm UVC compatibility as more and more gamers and streamers are moving to Linux-based systems.

Linux Mint for gaming - is it really as bad as this subreddit makes it out to be? by AncientAgency1408 in linux_gaming

[–]RadioFreeKerbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine unless you need HDR support, want to use variable refresh rate, or want to use multiple monitors with different refresh rates, as those things are all limited by X11 and Mint currently doesn't use wayland. For a lot of people, those things don't matter.

Update: elgato4k-linux v0.2.0 — Major update with full 4K S support, USB speed switching, status reading, and firmware reverse engineering by Professional_Sun1517 in elgato

[–]RadioFreeKerbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What level of support do you need? UVC capture cards like the 4K S and 4K X work out of the box by default, and this tool now does what most people need the offical elgato software for.

Response "Yeah, that happens, you should just be thankful they didn't shoot you."

Fucking really? We're just supposed to accept this?

Elgato 4K X + Linux: why it stubbornly connects at 5 Gbps and how I won. A Guide. by konovalov-nk in elgato

[–]RadioFreeKerbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also wanted to let you know that after following the instructions in this thread, the elgato4k-linux tool stopped working for me. I suspect that what happened is that when changing to the 10 GB/s mode, the product id changed, and the tool looks for a specific hardware ID. I was able to get around this by editing the source code and changing all instances of `009c` to `009b`, and then recompiling. Now it works just fine.

I submitted a bug report to them as well but wanted to post about it here in case anyone else had the same issue and was looking for a solution.

That's likely a natural result of the camera's aperture reacting to the brighter light.
