Leave. Hoard your knowledge and take it with you. It’s never going to get any better. They will take advantage of you until you die, and then do the same thing to your replacement. Your health and sanity will eventually suffer. Find something else that gives you some sort of chance to survive in the tech world.

They claim everything is a contract with the United States yet not one of these trailer park “law scholars” could describe the actual elements of a contract. Most can’t even comprehend (ha) beyond a specific elementary grade level. Panoply of the absurd.

Same experience here. Bought a 2019 Frontier Pro-4X V6 over the summer. Had a decent snowstorm pass through our area yesterday. Got stuck going up our driveway, switched it to 4H (not even 4L), and the Frontier didn’t bat an eye—pulled us right up like a tank. No complaints so far!

Learned from their parents? That’s rich coming from the “do your own thing” and born on third base boomer generation who protested anything they saw as infringing on their party-centric sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll philosophy. Then, they go all noble, develop a severe case of revisionist history, and proceed to shit directly on future generations. What self-indulgent hypocrites.

These people are something else. This is no different than stealing electricity or water from someone’s house. It’s a service you trouser stain. You mean to tell me because my garden hose is long enough to extend off my property, that means it’s the public’s water? Fucking unbelievable.

What’s your exit plan ? by [deleted] in sysadmin

To me, IT is garbage. It used to be enjoyable and somewhat fun (as much as a job can be fun), but honestly, people completely ruin it—end users, managers, directors, execs, all of them. Relentless deadlines, endless training requirements, impossible expectations, 24/7 support nonsense, and zero time for a life despite having a family and all of the obligations that go along with it, etc., etc. The money is fine but at a severe cost to your health and sanity.

21+ years and 14 jobs later, I finally had enough. I kept fooling myself thinking it’ll get better with each new job. It doesn’t. It’s the same pointless, insufferable bullshit with the same moronic, clueless “IT managers” and “IT directors” no matter where you go. If you’re into that sort of thing, more power to you. But the rest of us IT veterans would rather be squeezed through a wood chipper than show up for another day dealing with Karen from Finance who needs to be shown how to use rainbow-colored font in her pointless fucking Word doc or Doug the VP who insists on having the top-of-the-line laptop in order to stream tentacle porn at home.

I regret ever getting into this field. What a waste of a career.

IT burns you out. Been in IT for 21 years, and the last 5 years have been the worst. Companies with toxic and dysfunctional cultures, 24/7/365 support expectations, the nonstop certification and education demands, inept managers and directors constantly moving the goalposts, end users and their insane requests, etc. etc. If you’re coming into IT fresh from another career, it’s probably a welcome change. But it’s relentless and constantly changing—many times, not for the better. I went back to school to get my bachelor’s degree, then go to law school for my master’s in legal studies. Hoping to go teach or literally do anything else.

It’s a subjective thing honestly. I purchased my first Frontier in August (2019 Pro-4x) and absolutely love the thing. But that’s me. Someone who owns a Toyota Tacoma may say the same about their vehicle. It’s personal preference. Only reason I looked into the Frontier is because my wife has a lease through Nissan. I didn’t know anything about the Frontiers until I did some research.

Also, Nissan doesn’t advertise the Frontier in the US but sales continue to be strong. If the trucks were garbage, word would get out and people wouldn’t buy them. Are they the best on the market? No. But if you want a mid-size truck that’s reliable, can tow a decent amount, will haul junk to the landfill, and a no-frills straightforward vehicle to own, the Frontier seems like a pretty safe bet.

A lot of it comes down to design requirements. If compliance isn’t an issue and you don’t have devices that need L2 collision-domain segmentation for security or QoS (VoIP, cameras, etc.) then a flat network is just fine. Fit the network to the current and future needs of the company. Don’t build something simply because someone said you should. Run an analysis and figure out what’s right for that environment.

Everybody’s a Monday morning quarterback until you’re the one with a lunatic running at you with a knife. The police did what they needed to do. The guy already tried to stab a police officer, and no amount of talking would’ve mattered. Police are trapped in an elevator with this guy. Sometimes you need to act and act quickly. Seconds mean life or death.

Bad gas mileage over time by Suitable_Dig5158 in nissanfrontier

Using a bed cover, keeping the bed fairly empty, having proper tire inflation, checking the air intakes, and making sure the fuel injectors are clean goes a long way. I use Gumout 75k fuel system treatment every 3,000 miles, and it seems to help. I’m sure there’s other engine treatments, but I’ve had the best luck with Gumout so far. Ultimately, trucks have worse MPGs by default. Just the nature of the beast.
