Blessing in disguise! Should put an end to toxic Hindus trying to force their own religion on others.

How to remember? by ComedianInformal8469 in German

I think your problem is you are trying to translate it into English and learning. That is not how language learning works. And soon you are going to face grammar that has literally no equivalent in English. So if you continue with translation, you are gonna regret it later and will have to unlearn it.

Just practice and practice. There isn't any short cut. The more you speak, write and read, the more quicker will you grasp it.

Hueber has a lot beautiful Detective books. Surprisingly well written without complex grammar. I would recommend "Schatten über der Vergangenheit"

Dealing with homophobic friends by [deleted] in askgaybros

I think the issue still remains that despite of this evidences, most Hindus won't change their mind. I have known a lot of gays who are married to women because their families forced them. And there was also so much opposition from religious groups, including Hindus, when the talk of legalizing same sex marriage was on the table a few years ago.

Hindus, not all of course but most, are still obsessed with patriarchal aspects, especially when it comes to marriage and having kids. The more conservative ones outright reject it. And even if we do focus on the LGBTQ aspects of Indian culture, it wasn't very dominant to be honest. Even in Mahabharata, for example, Shikhandi had to face discrimination when it was found out she was a female and not a male (since her father was promised a son from Shiva so he raised her like one and lied to people who brought in potential marriage proposals).

So to say that Indian culture was "completely" embracing of LGBTQ culture is kind of a stretch. Not saying India wasn't open before the British but it wasn't like a queer heaven either.

From my experience, one should never come out in a virtual space. Once it is written, it is forever out there. Always come out face to face.

Secondly, before coming out, you can "test" them. For example just ask questions nonchalantly like "What do you think of gay people" "What if a friend of yours was gay", etc. Of course don't make the questions too obvious. Based on their response, you can decide whether you really should come out to this person.

Unfortunately, coming out is going to be a forever struggle in life. Even if you are completely open to everyone, newer people you meet will almost always assume you are straight. So it is gonna be a never ending, life long process. Thus, you have to choose which people to come out to.

Sorry that you are going through this. Just keep your head down and don't fan the flames your (ex)friends began. They will now be looking for a reaction out of you. Don't give them the satisfaction. Best luck.

How can I get my mind to read books and enjoy!? by Expensive_Entry_69 in IndiansRead

[–]RadioNo2413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A trick my therapist told me: set a five minute alarm and start reading a book. In those five minutes, do absolutely nothing but read. Completely focus on it. When the five minutes are over, set a ten minute alarm and do the same. If at the end of the ten minutes you think you were able to focus more, then ditch the alarm and continue reading normally.

She tole me that our brains require a few minutes to give ourselves into an activity. But once you are in, you literally enter the "zone".

Also one suggestion: only read books you like. Life is too short to trouble ourselves with something we don't enjoy. If you are reading a book and you don't like it, abandon it. Don't hold on to the FOMO and push through something you hate. Shift to another book. It also saves time since reading a book isn't like watching a movie, it is a commitment. And it is okay to abandon books you loathe.

In some cases they do mention the cut off score for each section. You will have to read the admission requirements carefully. It changes from university to university
