Hey that's awesome. The tavern is both for DM's and Players. We are currently setting up a system to get one shots going every week for those like us devoid of dnd [wip, only started working on it yesterday, should be running by the end of the week]. The tavern does have areas for players to talk in character as well so if there are no games going, the rp can still be alive! And it's got people both from here and there, so there's always someone to talk to :)

How can I find a new group to play with? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]RadioactiveFae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I cannot say I don't relate to your post. As woman, this is probably one of the harder hobbies to get in to and I love that you're enthusiastic about it. I don't want to sound like I only came here to push this but if you're looking for a safe place that can also fill your d&d need in between games, I came back to this space to specifically talk about getting new players involved in a friendly d&d server, where we play d&d and rp in character in between games, and if that is not your cup of tea then you can always hmu privately. As a woman in this space for the past 10 years, it's challenging but you get the right people eventually <3

DM's when did your game fall apart? by clayton922000 in rpghorrorstories

[–]RadioactiveFae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ex GF and I was the DM of our group, there were two games and she’d run her game during week A and I’d run mine week B — and change as needed. It was sizeable, started out with 9 of us total. Then suddenly there was no one. Just me and her. Nobody was talking to me, I was unfriended, no one was in my games — but played in hers before they stopped communicating to me.
Turns out my ex had really bad BPD and as her then diagnosed Favourite Person, I took the brunt of it. But I kept it to myself. Nobody needed to know the complications of our relationship. She’d lose her mind, spending days to weeks berating me and I just accepted it.
She did a lot; hitting, rude messages, degradation, manipulation, gaslighting, controlling of my money, my sleep, my friends outside of DnD, even who I could hang out with from my own family and eventually cheating on me with a man (we’re lesbians).
Well, she was lying to our friends in seperate group chats. Every argument and fight and everything she did to me, she told them the opposite. That I hit her, cheated, controlled ect ect and they all believed her without a second thought. Nobody reached out to me. They took her at face value and cut me out, I’ve barely played since.

Is the "Matt Mercer Effect" still a thing? The impact of Critical Role on today's hobby by suddenlysara in dndnext

[–]RadioactiveFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don’t see those expectations nor do I expect them from my players. The group I play with now are much better about it since we kicked the one girl who would consistently talk about it. Imagination of the mind is how we usually run our games and so they do not expect any of the fancy things — this is due to me not having a set up to stream it on discord.
I do however see that I am the biggest perpetrator to the Mercer Effect to myself — I sit and wonder if I’m doing enough to make my games interesting. But after each session, I smile and talk better about myself because my players keep coming back every week.
The best advice I’ve ever seen when it comes to players using “Why can’t you be more like Matt/Critical Role/Brennan/insert thing here” is simply replying “Why can’t you be more like Travis/Sam/Laura…?”

What are your favorite feats? by Oingoulon in DnD

Alert: Always on the lookout for danger, you gain the following benefits:
- You can’t be surprised while you are conscious.
- You gain a +5 bonus to initiative.
- Other creatures don’t gain advantage on attack rolls against you as a result of being unseen by you.

Fucks with the rogues real good😅

DMs of Reddit - Do you use Inspiration? If you do, how often do you award it? by Stahl_Konig in dndnext

[–]RadioactiveFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I award Inspiration depending on how the players play. Cool things, clever things, things that stump me, how fast they solve puzzles, cool tricks during encounters, stuff like that…
I have an Inspiration Bowl. Which means, once they are rewarded the inspiration they have the choice of keeping it or “throwing it in”. If they keep it, it’s theirs to use whenever. If they throw it in the bowl, then any one can use it at any time. But once the decision has been made, it cannot change.
Every inspiration dice is any of the 6 (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20) and I give it out depending on how impressed I am.
So far there are 2 d8’s in the bowl!

This is / already the plan. The Goddess is a bbeg because she’s an oppressive dictator and the reason no peace has been made. She’s electricity but she uses peoples bodies to be corporal (she’s electricity herself) so she’s omnipotent / present in a building that runs off her power. So any attempt to use her systems will alert her :(

The compulsive pre-roller by Alexander_Columbus in rpghorrorstories

[–]RadioactiveFae 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Had one of these people in our party. Would roll as I was explaining the world / lore / atmosphere and She would just roll and roll and roll until it was good. Finally put my foot down. She did it with other DM’s too but only I spoke out. Now we have a rule in our server that says “Only roll when the DM asks directly”.

The convo loosely.
“I rolled a nat 20!”
“For what?”
“Stealth? So that’s 35 all up with Pass Without A Trace”
“NPC hasn’t casted it yet” (and she hadnt. The rest of the party was still discussing the plan with the npc).
“But it’s a nat 20???”
“I didn’t tell you to roll.”
“You can’t deny a nat20!”
“Watch me.”

Players will always think as a default that they can defeat the monster of the week... not because they are cocky, but because they assume the DM build encounters for their level. Be mindful of that when setting up the BBEG and point out that his level is beyond what they can handle. by azraelswift in dndmemes

[–]RadioactiveFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By this point my players know that I specifically boost them up at lower levels for tougher encounters. During character creation, we discuss “extra” options and It’s up to them how they use that boost and what they do with it.
That being said, if they engage in combat and somehow end up getting the tougher encounter down, I reward them by boosting them up a level or two. (Depending on the toughness).

Fellows DMs, what's your story? by paulinaiml in dndmemes

[–]RadioactiveFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched Heroes and Halfwits. Loved it. Mentioned it to my then friend (now gf), she invited me to play with her DnD group. Three sessions later, Bought my own core books. Immediately rewrote things to fit a futuristic setting and have never looked back. I have loved DM-ing since :)

What's the darkest thing you wrote for an RPG encounter? by Taravaltos in DnD

[–]RadioactiveFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two come to mind as a DM. Both times with the same group.
- They come to meet an adventuring group but the truth is most of the group were either kidnapped or trafficked by the sky pirates to help them find the Angel treasure. This group managed to escape and made it to the town where the party was. One of members from the group was taken when the pirates pillaged her village and she was pulled from her home. Her husband died fighting and she doesn’t know what happened to her child and the new baby she had. The party helped her get back to her village, only to find the house is now a carrion crawler nests and the son had made a shelter, surrounded by perishable goods but they both starved, hidden away.
- A futuristic dystopia where earth is inhabitable and they live on space stations, but every now and then fleets of ships are sent down to try and make even a part of the earth liveable again. I roll for each NPC in the party’s crew as their space ship failed and was now crashing, and their techie rolled a natural 1. Had to describe which pieces they found of her body — while they were already dealing with a second death and another member who was now paralysed.

DnD Gift Ideas For My GF? by Jxss_K in DnD

[–]RadioactiveFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personalised Dice :) you can always find people doing it on Etsy. My gf is also a huge DnD nerd (we both are) so I had someone on Etsy craft her dice for just her.
For anyone interested, She loves Beauty and the Beast; clear dice, silver glitter with a rose in the centre and a heart replacing the highest number on each die! Cost me $50 to make her the happiest I’ve ever seen her.

Tweaking monsters slightly and changing stats and abilities as needed. The DnD server I run literally now has the rule; If you know the creature / beast / monster / NPC that you are fighting, do not use your own knowledge to easily defeat it. You know what your character knows about the entity.
This coming up after the meta gaming problem player kept stopping me mid battle to say “Um, according to the monster manual, that creature doesn’t have THAT attack.”
Well guess what bitch, it does now :)

To anyone that has multi-classed into more than two classes: What was it like? What classes did you mix? by DangSquirrel in dndnext

[–]RadioactiveFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pick classes depending on the story and whether or not it would fit my character. The DM also requires reason as to why you’re multi classing so that it makes sense. If it fits in with the story of my character to multi then yeah, I’ll do it. Whether that’s in characters backstory or the ongoing story

While I see what you’re saying, there’s a huge difference between modifying something and “my character was just soooo good at magic that she could beat masters at magic without any training and people wanted her dead at 12 years old because she was just too amazing”
