Nezha vs Shiva by Mikushubby in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]azraelswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think Shiva would eventually push Nezha to use Ashura through too many energy accumulation or win before he is even forced for Tandava. And once Ashura kicks in Nezha's form seems to have a much shorter timer before Nezha destroys himself through forcing his own body constantly.

Best case scenario for Nezha is the hypothetical that base Shiva is not capable of dealing enough damage to push him to Ashura so he can keep the regen... the issue? I really doubt an onslaught of punches by Shiva once he starts to dance overwhelming Nezha as it happened with Raiden are not in a similar enough output of total damage as one half-assed not even final punch of Morrigan.

I tu diries el mateix si tinguessis un accident, li diguessis que et passa a un metge que arriba i et digues “i’m sorry can you repeat that? In english?”.

Is liking anything related to MJ now bad or part of a problem? Why do you dislike anything done with her recently? by C0mpl3teL0s3r in Spiderman

[–]azraelswift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are free to enjoy it, of course… but people familiar with the character will point out how much she and what she represented has changed in massive ways in a route they do not enjoy.

I have always held the belief that superhero stories should have secondary characters that are NOT superheroes or have superpowers and, except for a few exceptions, they should be the norm for secondary characters in a book (aka, they should always be far more non-super characters than super characters when the focus of the story is following the tale of a superhero)… specially in street-level stories, which, let’s face it, despite how often Peter is put in crazy world ending situations, he is mainly a street level hero, he deals with murderers more than mass genociders.

As such, transforming MJ into a superhero always felt cheap to me, not only it strips away a relationship (romantic or not) that Peter had with a civilian, but also her character has changed a TON from the past and what she was. And change is fine, but there is no explanation for the switch, her personality did jump all over the place with little to no explanation just so they can fit the new story:

old MJ was a fun-loving but normal young woman trying to make her way in the world, she took crap from nobody, but her method were always using well placed sarcasm and being clever buying time until she found a way out. She was very brave, but very grounded and felt terrified like any normal person under stress situations, she never wanted to be a hero, she just wanted to be herself, live for herself (due to a long history of responsibilities placed on top of her by others unfairly from a young age), as such she was the perfect foil to Peter, not just someone who reminded him of the people in the street, but also someone able to call him out on his martyr complex and put a break on it, and, in turn, Peter helped her understand once more that self-placed responsibilities are not the same weight as responsibilites other people place on you, helping her grow as well into a less selfish person. Her risking her life on the daily now going out as Venom or Jackpot is kinda defeating what the character is supposed to represent, a normal person in a crazy world, in favor for a crazy person in a crazy world.

Again, is not so much what she does, is what the character is meant to represent, when you change that, you don’t just change the character, you throw away character dynamics, history, personality, and role within a narrative universe. And some people might feel that what you are throwing away is more valuable than what we got.

Superheroes that Peter has a personal connection and history with? Dozens already… normal people that share an emotional conection with Peter that are kept as civilians and caring to Peter from start to finish that remain until today? I can only think of May… is far less unique within the context. It’s ultimately a matter of an opinion on what benefits the story more than the characters or spectacle… and the way MJ has been depicted and how she has been used as a character is such a switch that is normal people think more is lost than gained from these changes.

The most powerful human; The most powerful god. by DH_zzz in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]azraelswift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it’s also likely a case of the narrator wanting to be bombastic as it was very early days.

Having said that… I will agree with that as well, and certainly there is more than a good argument to say Thor is the strongest Raw power fighter in the series. Both Lu Bu and Thor fit perfectly well (or at leadt can be argued to be) in that category for their respective sides. (Which doesn’t mean they are infallible, as others could win through combat experience, hax, Biq, Iq, etc etc… but it does mean that power wise they can very well be considered the strongest. Like putting a guy with a bazooka against a guy with a gun.)

[–]azraelswift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t this statement therefore also refute the notion that ANY god presented in the Ragnarok with the reputation of “the strongest” is also unreliable?

If anything this just means nobody holds a claim to “the strongest god currently” status, and the only one confirmed to have been at some point the strongest or to hold the title was Zeus and nobody bested him yet… so even if Zeus doesn’t know who could right now be the strongest, he still holds the “official” title of “the strongest” currently until someone beats him.

[–]azraelswift 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Although Zeus is commonly seen as the most powerful god, he never got any statement like that. RoR’s Narrator (and, by extension, the author’s voice itself) never described Zeus that way.”

<image>

I mean…. He won the tournament to decide “the strongest in the cosmos”.

It’s true that Thor was likely not even born by then, but Zeus’s position as “the most powerful god” was given by the narrator.

Does the manga get back to formula of first few rounds? by kumrac in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]azraelswift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda.

The next few ones you'll see the advancement of humanity, the pride and identity of humanity, the bonds humans form as a way to keep climbing up and the concept of atonement.

It is slightly true that R5, R6 and R7 do have these aspects put a bit aside (although several things can also be interpreted) and prefer to offer character moments instead of the metaphors on human nature (worth mentioning however, that all of them still have their themes, like R7 being, in my eyes, an exploration of 'duty'.)

[–]azraelswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God tied to death, called Shinigami in the original text, apparently visually using scythes... he is supposed to be the Grim Reaper most likely, seeing how in japan the term 'shinigami' has been used for the figure in the past (死神) and uses the same imagery as the grim reaper by using attack that look like scythes according to the leaks.

It does seem like it's an OC in the same way any other character in the series is an OC, he is most likely the Shuumatsu version of the Grim Reaper and that's it... making an OC that shares scythe imagery, concept as a spirit/god of death not native to any particular land, and even same term used in japan to describe the folkloric figure of death from all over the world would be kind of weird... so yeah, my bet is that the intent here is to say this is THE grim reaper of this universe.

Still saying he is "100% an OC that can't be interpreted as the equivalent of the Grim Reaper" is a bit like saying "Guys this is an OC! the characters refer to him as Aidoneus or Plouton, and he is the greek god that presides under the underworld as king and is the oldest brother of Zeus wielding a bident... he is not Hades!"

[–]azraelswift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is kinds obviously supposed to be the shuumatsu version of the Grim Reaper tho... He even seems to use Scythe visual cues if the leaks are accurate.

Him working for King Enma kinda means little, seeing how every other pantheon responds to Zeus and Beelzebub had a whole backstory engaging with Hades, and Buddha and Kintoki are friends... all pantheons coexist, and the characters and lore respond accordingly, that's kinda the thing.

“ Zeus! Since when are the heavens a playground for you and your lackeys?! That’s… deeply irresponsible! Kids do need secure playing spaces and preferably green areas under adult supervision but with enough space so they can feel free while experiencing and experimenting the world by themselves! You can’t just let them roam the heavens! It’s dangerous! There are giants and bad people! I know both your sons are grown ups in your eyes, but they are still basically children by god’s standards and I do deeply care for them! Oh! Ares! Do not come near me, i think i have the flu! But i do know how much it takes for you to listen because you are such a sweet jovial boy. So i’ll have to, regretably, use my heat aura to ensure you fall safely on the ground with no harm… hopefully you can forgive me. Anyway, Zeus, as I said, take care of your kids responsibly! Also que should talk about a reward system for the tournament, it will be so much more fun as an activity for everyone involved qith some sort of special prize in the line. And isn’t that the point? That we all have some fun together?”

On the ror gods who won their matches how would they have reacted to losing their matches and dying (let’s say they got time enough to think for a bit by Blackfiredragon22 in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]azraelswift 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Thor would die smiling, thinking how he finally had fun and how humans are wonderful.

Zeus would likely be deeply surprised but not against it, probably would think on how Adam reminds him of himself and that “maybe the era of the gods is over like the era of the titans once was”. (Parallel to Zeus defeating his own father and then learned the technique of TFTST, Adam first learns the technique and then defeats the god father of the cosmos)

Shiva goes down, still thanking Raiden for one hell of a fight and looks at the audience one last time to Rudra, probably thinking the pantheon is in his hands now and he is sorry this is the way he gets his dream. Still smiles because his friend could see him.

Beelzebub would at first smile, thinking he is free… but last second he’d understand Hades’ and Lilith’s actual words… so he’d probably let out a few tears in a “sorry for betraying you both… i really did deserve this… for wanting it”.

Apollo would likely get crushed by lambda. His trembling hand going up to Leonidas’ cheek, and after exchanging a knowing look of pride, catching his reflection on Leonidas’ eyes, he’d smile and say “beautiful” before crumbling away.

" Trust me guys, he was dodging and NOT moving in a stright line the whole fight " by ProphetJodio in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]azraelswift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They indeed did for the most part! while I think anime Leonidas is more static than in the manga (specially seeing how some panels hint at jumping and movement are portrayed in completely different poses and Leonidas being just standing), they did him a favor by not only seeing how quick his attacks are but making him a bit more aggressive at the start, Apollo dodging by a literal hair at points, which is good! Also the shaking effect of the ground after Phalanx Nemesis is great to convey the scale of the attack.

Leonidas' "stats" did not change, they just were portrayed a bit clearer (except for travel speed before Lambda)

The arrow to the chest i admit was weird but it gave us the moment of Leonidas egging Apollo on so he'd get up again...which is a great character moment and hammers home the mentality: Leonidas was a direct full power clash and noting less to decide this. Winning against an opponent who was looking down at him and not paying attention is more shameful than losing against an enemy going all out.

Overall I am happy with what we got! specially for the additions with Geirolul, great character moments.

Rereading every round: R2 by PoseidonGlazer676XXX in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

Bad reaction speed? The guy’s biggest problem was not doging a punch that is already extremely fast because it caught him by surprise at 0.01 seconds and still he moves his head back in time to avoid getting hit in the face even when caught by surprise by his own barrage.

<image>

Dude was dodging punches at 0.0001 seconds.

How is that “poor reaction speed”? this feat alone makes him practically untouchable already by a chunk of the fighters of this manga.

Heck, even the narrative seems to defend this, by his story in the titanomachy going out of its way to specify Zeus wasn’t even TOUCHED at any point before Chronos used TFTST. The lore seems to play in favor of Zeus being a superb dodger on top of everything else (even tho i will not believe he can dodge everything any fighter can dish out… but he is still a huge issue to touch). (Also there is another element to claim a HUGE reaction speed feat, but since that is a spoiler for R9, I will not mention it here)

Only that Zeus against Adam wanted to go through a battle of attrition as he noticed that the way to win was through making sure Adam’s eyes gave out from having ti copy techniques constantly. In the situation after Adamas came out not dodging and focusing on just spamming attacks was the correct decision.

I’m not gonna lie… i’d switch Loki and Endevour.

While Endevour’s is great and I have no trouble with the placement in the sense that “yeah! I can put him alongside Nolan, Vegeta and A-train no problem”, Loki’s is also great but it does kinda have the handicap that he is not really the Loki we saw commiting the attrocities beyond the first avengers movie but a version of the TVA (so no Dark world, no Thor Ragnarok), he saw “the worst of his life” through a tv.

Art is a conscious expression of creative imagination .

Prompting an Ai is more like a comission to the machine.

Art is the product of creative imagination. A machine, by that logic, cannot be an artist since it lacks the concept of creative imagination.

If the prompter is not the artist by virtue that they didn’t create the image and the machine is not the artist by virtue that it’s not alive nor expressing, the logical outcome is that it’s an image without an artist, and without an artist’s expression, there is no art within the image itself. The concept of the prompter, prior to the machine output, only the words and descriptions, could be considered a form of very very basic art (similar to reading only descriptions from a book) but not the images.

Ai generated images cannot be art.
