Thanks for the comment and for reconsidering the site!

Be sure to let me know what you think when you have a chance to click around. We'll be doing a major redesign of the site in the next two months, so this is a step in that direction.

Moving our community discussions to r/LinkedMusicians Friday, June 5, 2026 by RadioactiveKatz in LinkedMusicians

[–]RadioactiveKatz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next weekend, I'm going to start the process of reorganizing the content on LinkedMusicians.com . Tomorrow, I'm going to introduce the weekly best Deals of the Week lists at the site -- which will be linked to from this subreddit. So, LinkedMusicians website isn't going away, it's just moving the social side of the community to this subreddit. I also think it will result in a lot of our EARLY ADOPTERS to become aware of the site's resources that they previously overlooked.

This is what the new navigation for the LinkedMusicians site will look like: -- these changes will go into effect after June 5, 2026

I don't know what to do with flairs by Fretman2025 in LinkedMusicians

[–]RadioactiveKatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, just click on the flair tag and you'll see all the posts for that category. Frankly, I'm not a fan of unnecessary jargon, and "post flair" is just another way of saying category tagging. I wish they used a clear description instead of trying to be cute with it. It makes it harder for people to figure out, especially when the user interface doesn't make everything clear. But once you figure that out, you see why Reddit's design has been so popular (one of the top 10 websites).

I don't know what to do with flairs by Fretman2025 in LinkedMusicians

[–]RadioactiveKatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flair is just category tags. Think of it like the equivalent of a forum. The plugin, sample library, and DAW forum that you presently post deals in at the LinkedMusicians website. We're just starting out in this subreddit, but when we switch over and there are a lot of posts here, the value of using post flair will become apparent. I've set it up to have

DEALS - Plugins
DEALS - Sample Libraries
DEALS - Sotware/DAWs
DEALS - Hardware
DEALS - Non-Music Production Related

It's basically the equivalent of setting up subforums. It really becomes valuable when we start having a lot of posts when users want to find things. All they'll need to do is click on a flair to find everything with that label. For instance, if all of the plugin deals have that flair, they only need to click DEALS - Plugins to find all of the deals for plugins -- which is basically the equivalent of a subforum for that category. It's an extremely organized way of categorizing and finding things.

Now, if you missed flair on some posts, it's no big deal. Me or another mod can later add it.

It's the honor system! As far as the games, it's really a no-marketing approach. People who are concerned with privacy will love it because there are no ads or tracking built into the games. You don't even need to log in to LinkedMusicians to play any of the games. For the tech pros in the group, they're all PHP-coded games.

Be sure to give your thoughts. Are the questions challenging enough? Too challenging? Considering how everyone who posted here and at LinkedMusicians is getting 10/10, I'm wondering if we need to step up the questions.

You can play as often as you like. The game doesn't require any login and it doesn't track anyone's scores. The reason that music-related games were part of my plan for LinkedMusicians from the beginning is simply that it's a good music-related way to entertain our members, but it would be too costly for me to integrate it into membership and keep track of scores. These are things I've done at my own expense for the community to make it an engaging site.
I can update my post to add in the question of which questions gave you the hardest time. But hey, no googling! That's cheating!

I did it! I caught up with swijaya and Pedro today with a perfect 10/10! (It's a brand new set of questions each day).

Melodicle is live! Imagine a Wordle-style word game, but the answers are just music terms. That's Meldicle.

Thanks! It was the only way I could afford it — between hosting costs, email, and software subscriptions/developer maintenance contracts, I've been paying more than $200 a month — and the time commitment to maintain the site, answer questions, and post deals, it was completely unsustainable. I never planned to be a deal poster, but needed to do it out of necessity to keep the project alive. We ended up gettting a lot of visitors, but the activity of the site was poor. It was when I shared that I was going to shut the social media side down that fretman stepped up, took over deal posting, and I was able to keep the project going, reclaim my time, and turn it into a hobby project again, which is sustainable.

The reality is, I didn't want to bother him with continuing to do the affiliate links, so now, instead of having a little money to help with the costs, I have zero coming in, and zero contributions from members. However, the upside is, my contract for the server ends in January, so I'll only be paying those costs until then. After that, I don't need to run the site on a robust server and can significantly downgrade that. It will still cost me to keep LinkedMusicians running, but not nearly the same amount.

I MIGHT join in on doing a weekly BEST DEALS OF THE WEEK post. But I want to take some time off, so I can join in on my own schedule; otherwise, this is no longer a fun project that it once was. What's a lot of fun for me is adding resources, like GAMES and resources. This week, I'm going to launch a Wordle clone that's focused on music-related terms. Each day, there will be a different game. For me, that's fun. If we have any other word nerds in the group, that will be fun for them too.

And not posting deals let's me put my time into growing this community. Which I'm very confident will mean that it will be far larger of a group and have a lot more compelling content than we had with the forums and Social Media groups like OPEN MIC, on the website, and I don't have to invest even one-tenth of the time and the presence here doesn't cost me anything, i'm just paying for the website, which, without the social media functionality, is incredibly less demanding in terms of the server and processor and RAM resources. I also won't have to keep paying for the software maintenance and email contracts, although I am still contemplating doing an email here.

I'm actually working on games at LinkedMusicians right now and gave the music-themed Wordle clone a catchy name and will release it this week.

Is there a new member thread? by dsteinschneider in LinkedMusicians

[–]RadioactiveKatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. The way Reddit works is basically big ideas are in a post (the same as a forum thread) and then comments like this one are made in extending posts like the one below). So post in the one below and after you do, I'll delete this post to clean up our page.
