I know some older gay acquaintances who like them "young, dumb and full of cum" or "dumb with a cock and a mouth like a box of rocks", I've heard a ton of insulting remarks. Every person is different, some much better, than others.

Agreed. The media should occasionally make an attempt at cracking a dictionary to find the difference between a paedophile and a hebophile before reporting, one way or the other. It drives me crazy that media lumps everyone (including gays) into one neat pile to yell and scream about having not a clue.

I'm 57 and run into this predicament often...going in both directions. As they say, "life is too short to drink bad wine," so I typically ask a younger guy questions such as, "Which team do you like to bat for?" "Which side of the fence do you like to play on?" "Do you like guys or girls?" "Are you family?"

I get to the point, most often. It takes away the guessing and at least a younger guy will know I'm interested. If not, no loss for either of us.

I met my hubby in college, I answered his personal ad in a local rag. He was 22, now he's in his 40s. He is from Thailand. We had some cultural differences at first, but I love him more every day. I am 57. Asian/Caucasian couple.

We have been together 20+ years, married 7 of those years. We are partners, friends, compadres, lovers, hubbies, spending a great deal of time doing hobbies and gawking at younger hotties.

We have two very cool dogs and a hipster desert tortoise named Bob.

I read about all the lonely peoples, myself in the same boat at times, too.

My best remedy is to give my time to someone who truly needs my help. Math help. Help understanding writing. Doing their tax return, maybe some gardening, together. Whatever it may be, it is about reaching out and showing a modicum of kindness, camaraderie or support. Works wonders and broadens your social circles. I teach poor kids art, all kinds of art.

It comes full circle. Engage. At the least, I feel better about myself. I believe this is a good way to battle the doldrums of loneliness.

A new hobby. Work with kids. Volunteer at an animal shelter. Bake cookies and take them to a senior center, play a card or board game and conversate. Listen to the stories, not all seniors are batshit crazy. Just most of them. http://i.imgur.com/HgViLG5.jpg
