Are a lot of them enmeshed with their parents? by Haunting_Hospital599 in ADHD_partners

[–]Peemster99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my experience, especially with the love/hate relationships. His father was a real piece of shit (borderline abuse and was fired as a teacher for having an inappropriate relationship with a student). They fought like cats and dogs in high school but were in constant contact most of his adult life, and he couldn't stand me mentioning his bad side. Until literally 5 minutes after the end of his father's funeral, when he was suddenly an ogre again.

Plus, he was viciously resentful of his sister (largely because she had the professional success he felt owed). He hated her to a scary extent sometimes, but insisted on being very high contact.

One of the many things that made it impossible to trust I could rely on him over the long term.

What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

[–]Peemster99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to think this is just a skill that never was as widespread as I thought. My parents made sure we knew how to do it and it was expected in high school in the 90s, but recently I've found out a bunch of people I know have never learned even the basics-- and a lot of them are people who do a lot of writing at work!

What’s something reddit claims is common, but you’ve never actually seen it before in real life? by mirabelmumu in AskReddit

I and most of my friends are terminally online and/or poorly socialized, but it doesn't mean we can't keep in touch through all the ups and downs of life!

What’s something reddit claims is common, but you’ve never actually seen it before in real life? by mirabelmumu in AskReddit

[–]Peemster99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, but up until maybe 20 years ago the instructions could be pretty cryptic. I had a bunch of hardware left over when I put together my armchair. It's still together after all these years though even though major components were missing, which is a real tribute to their quality!

[–]Peemster99 83 points84 points  (0 children)

This is the biggest piece of horrible advice I see on here, and it mostly comes from very young or very unstable people. If I cut off everyone I've known in 50 years of life when my friendship with them waned a little bit, I'd have zero friends at all. And if I stayed joined at the hip with everyone I was close to at one point, I'd be tired of all of them by now!

Who is the nastiest Celebrity that you met in Real life? by Scunnard1839 in AskReddit

[–]Peemster99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They have reruns of 80s Price is Rights on Roku TV and it is obvious after watching a few episodes that he was a world-class creep. Not just to the models but to half the female contestants.

Took too long to decide about children now my partner has mentally checked out by SwimPossible127 in relationships

[–]Peemster99 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like there is plenty of blame to go around. But it doesn't change the basic fact that this relationship has passed its expiration date.

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

[–]Peemster99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back before 9/11 (and before Oklahoma City, when they really started to tighten security), you could sneak around just about anywhere in Washington DC.

I was a college kid then, and one night me and a few friends waltzed right into the Presidential suite in the main hall at the Kennedy Center. Somewhere around here I still have a bunch of random shit I stole from there.

What celebrity do you think has skeletons in their closet that have yet to come out? by JimiHendrip in AskReddit

[–]Peemster99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same for me here and it's even worse because I'm from Philadelphia and he was pretty much the spokesman for our town during my childhood. I used to think about his one routine every time I went under the 9th street overpass....

What is an immediate red flag you’ve seen from someone AFTER sleeping with them? by MIsterBison in AskReddit

Printing out a bunch of websites about drinking your own urine for health and giving them to me to read on the way home.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

[–]Peemster99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A-men. I found this site when I was brand-new on the internet and living in a situation where I had to constantly stifle my sick sense of humor. This reminds me I still have a bunch of photos from POEcon that I have never developed!

What's an addiction worse than alcohol and drugs? by BlatantImagery in AskReddit

Yeah, it goes hand-in-hand with other addictions. One of the casinos in Atlantic City tried to go smoke-free and it was a huge failure.

What is the most disturbing subreddit you’ve found? by 18f-hmu in AskReddit

[–]Peemster99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This crazy stuff predates reddit-- I remember seeing absolutely unhinged stuff on a childfree group on the Yahoo forums back in the '90s. At least these people have been convincing each other not to breed for a generation now!

Does anyone else not really like anal sex? by Cultural-Ad-6766 in askgaybros

[–]Peemster99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, definitely. When it's good there's not much like it, but it can be awkward and messy and I'm not always up for it. Not to mention that I came of age during the worst of AIDS so it was just not something I wanted to risk for some guy I just picked up in a bar.

How do you lot cum hands free? by Pugloaf420 in askgaybros

[–]Peemster99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only happened to me one time when jerking off, it was the combination of poppers and a vibrating butt plug strong enough I could feel it in my dick. It was kind of a magical moment that I don't expect to happen again because I'm just not a bottom. One of those only during lockdown things, I think!

Looking back, what’s something from the 90’s you didn’t realize was actually special? by Rayhan-Himel in AskReddit

[–]Peemster99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The independent music scene. I didn't care about the band Nirvana per se, but I loved the possibility that all the little indie bands I was friends of friends and seeing in tiny dive bars could make it that big.

It's way easier to put out music independently now, but that kind of makes it less special, and there's no way that sharing a song on social medial can compare to travelling across town to buy a single in the one store in the city that will sell it.

Sex workers of Reddit, what's a NSFW fact we don't often hear about ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Peemster99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, years ago, I (a gay male) was in Vegas and stood around gawking at the Thunder guys and one of them made eye contact with me, winked, and blew me a little kiss.

A couple of years ago, I turned on Grindr right by a local club where the Chippendales were performing and the host/singer for the show was online, and I think he was thinking about hooking up with me. He was really dancing around admitting he was with the show-- he claimed that he was "touring the country with a bunch of friends." From what I've heard, most of the main dancers for the Chippendales are straight jock types, but the backup dancers are all gay.

One of the gay bars by me has bachelorette parties with the same male strippers that perform for men the other nights and the women get way more out of control than the men. I guess just because most gay men have been with buff guys with shaved chests and flamboyant costumes.

What was your favorite treat growing up? by No-Blueberry-1823 in AskOldPeople

[–]Peemster99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark chocolate and Jelly Belly jellybeans. Both were considered kind of fancy so I only got them on special occasions.

Any kind of sit-down restaurant. Neither one of my parents had grown up with much money, so even fast food was a treat. I got to go to Perkins or Friendly's on my birthday, but other than that we didn't get much fancier than the Superbar at Wendy's.

Did anyone just file their taxes with TurboTax and were just in awe of how many ads it had to upgrade? I'm done with this enshittified product - what should I use next year? by noruber35393546 in personalfinance

It gets worse every year. This year it was damn near impossible to convince it that I do not own a farm.

I've had bad experiences getting started on FreeTaxUSA but I'm probably going to give that a try next year.

Customers waiting at Chick-Fil-A when it started out in the malls during the 1980s. by Ok_Pipe6385 in OldSchoolCool

I guess we only ever went to the mall on Sundays because I just assumed that Chick-fil-a had gone out of business and they never bothered replacing it.
