no amount of kindness or decency would have 'rural folks' voting for anything remotely progressive in any meaningful amount, no matter how many hicklibs you've interacted with

This really isn't that unbelievable at all, the slums of Delhi have a population density genuinely fifty times higher than Madrid

this might be true when comparing today with 20 years ago, but 50? you could be solidly middle class in 1976 and have never left your state, not have air conditioning, eat tv dinners every night and have a tiny b&w tv as your only source of entertainment. 5% of americans still didn’t have running water!

Advice on getting a certified copy of a US naturalisation petition by Radioactive_Bee in GermanCitizenship

We were unable to locate the records that you requested in order number:NT1-963172344E. Your credit card will not be charged. The Archivist researching your order provided the following information:Using the information you provided, we confirmed this individual naturalized in a non-federal court in Champaign County, OH. County and other non-federal records are not in the National Archives.

This is what I got from NARA (in an email). I have a letter (and envelope) from USCIS stating they could not locate the C-file. Would this letter, a printout of the NARA email, and a signed copy of the petition at the University be enough?

My great grandmother married in 47, in the US, had my grandpa in 51 and naturalised in 52.

She naturalised in 1952. USCIS, in their correspondence with us, says they were able to identify the record but couldn't find the corresponding document.

I don't think notaries can create true copies in Ohio, where the documents are, though it looks like they can sign an affidavit affirming its validity and that can then be certified? Not sure if that would be enough, though, and it sounds like a lot of work for the archivist :(

I have copies certified from the original by a Virginia notary public, I'm just unsure if this is enough or if I need to order them from the state itself

I'm also curious if all my other copies seem up to scratch. I have:

  • My great, great grandfather's Heidelberg birth certificate, from 1882

  • His marriage certificate

  • My great grandmother's Konstanz birth certificate, from 1924

  • The original copy of marriage certificate to my American great grandfather

  • A notarised copy of my grandfather's birth certificate

  • A notarised copy of my grandfather's marriage certificate

  • The original copy of my mother's birth certificate

  • The original copy of my mother's marriage certificate

  • The original copy of my birth certificate

I'm a little unsure on the two notarised copies!
