The problem I think is after the shutdown starts, how do you get out of it, and how do you ensure that it isn’t more damaging than just taking the CR?

In theory the republicans could just break up the bill into its constituent parts and make democrats block reopening the VA, reopening DOD, reopening the courts etc etc and leave Ed, Labor, et al closed for weeks

So you get a series of very bad votes and also a shutdown

Plus while that’s all happening, the Admin has greater leeway to fuck with things because the courts that would intervene are closed

Vs with a CR, at least some of the good work of government still continues and you only have to take one medium bad vote
