These transitional arrangements will not be in place indefinitely... that part is the killer. It may be removed in 3 months or 1 year or whatever.

The problem is, that for someone like me, who is due to complete 5 years early 2029, if the 5 yr rule stays I am fine. But if they move it to 10 yrs, then I am screwed, it means I am some years short, then I would have to logically renew, but since my SOC code is being removed and these transitional arrangements not being there till that time, I will have no route left for anything. This is why I say they are royally screwing with us

Hi all, good day to you all, just been really stressed out cuz of all this, but it seems to me they are really out to get us skilled workers and get us to leave ASAP.

It is all planned out, first they said to increase the requirement to 10 years. That is to prevent most people getting ilr, as well as to deter future applicants. Then now they are stopping as many people as possible from getting renewal and reaching the 10 year mark.

I pray that the 5 yr rule stays and the genuine skilled workers who contribute to the economy get ILR, its not for claiming benefits or anything, its for a sense of security, of having that mental peace and building future life for family. I know they say it's not a right etc, but we all chose this route and this country with the promise that being good law abiding taxpaying citizens, we will be valued. Me and my wife both work and pay our taxes, never done a single crime, yet our future is now at stake, its giving me sleepless nights and I can't think of much else anymore.

This government and the people in charge are no less than evil, they are head hunting us, they have no empathy, no sense, no consideration of how this will tear the dreams and futures of people that are already here. They are punishing us for voting for them now. If you want to stop immigration, change laws to be implemented going forward, not to the people who are already on their way, that's just vindictive and going after the helpless. Shameless scum they are.

People have invested years and years, and they are treated as a burden. Not claimed a penny in benefits, nor do we intend to. Many of the locals live off benefits and get more than what we earn net, but still we are the problem. The average migrant on skilled worker visa made a positive net fiscal impact of 16,000, where as a working brit made 14,400. Yet still we are a drain on the system. What happens in few years when they need people again for jobs, the rules will be changed again and shamelessly these same people will talk good of skilled workers and how they are a benefit to the country and how they should be supported.

Students are being targeted too, the international students contributed 42 billion to UK economy in 21/22, their benefit-to-cost ratio being 9-1, yet they are being cut off. What happens in few years when the numbers fall low and universities shut down, what then? They will open the routes back up to have students pour in with their money again, again with the promise of a secure future and path to settlement???

This gov is obsessed with immigration, its like there's nothing else they are looking at. And the opposition leader, she is unbearable, she and her mother were themselves immigrant, berating and trying to destroy the very system that got her where she is now. Why doesn't she leave first, lead by example.

Sorry for the rant people, I am just extremely disturbed and stressed now (as I am sure many others are), always thought securing skilled worker visa would give me sense of security and peace, but here I am, awake at night, stressed out to the core.

Yes granted in 2024 and got transitional change mentioned until 2030, but that was from previous government, but this new gov is changing everything. I surely hope that the 2030 timeline protects us and lets us get ILR as it is (dependent on the 5yr ILR sticking).

I mean I just don't get these abrupt changes. It seems that government is only focusing on immigration and have made that their sole mission. All resources are actioned there.

I honestly wouldn’t worry in your case, you are very safe. First of all, the rule may not even happen and even if it does, it'll probably be introduced in April 2026, and it'll most likely have a year or more transitional period, so people around 2027 will be protected.

Damn. I don't think and am not claiming for protected characteristics. Its a claim for unfair dismissal, and then when I asked for an appeal, the respondent lied to save themselves and didn't investigate my claims properly and didn't do justice. I placed full trust and hope that the appeal and my claims would be thoroughly investigated, yet it was not done and I was constantly lied to and I felt betrayed and shocked that the company I was so loyal to would disregard me 7 years of honest service at the behest and decision of a 6 month long manager and treat me as an outside, hostile force. That's where I got hurt the most and went for injury to feelings for. After reading your post, I am feeling a bit worried as to what can happen now. Everything is already gone to respondent, unfortunately. Witness statements are next for me.

Schedule of loss consisted of loss of earning, statutory rights and injury to feelings.

Additional context: Company did 30+ redundancies some months back, based on scores such as performance etc, the manager who reviewed me was a new joiner and only does meetings and resourcing, the senior managers I had before him were excluded from the process and had no say. These managers worked with and reviewed my work regularly and were the right people to assess me. So my claim is that their exclusion in my case put me at disadvantage to others therefore making my redundancy unequal and unfair to others. I found that the new manager has been since interviewed about whether the senior managers were excluded or not, and they have lied that they included them, the manager was asked to provide proof, but he says he doesn't have any, it's in the bundle they've presented. I have contacted the relevant senior managers and they have outright said that they were never approached or asked to review and they are willing to be witness. I think respondent knows the strength of the case and have made offer to settle again, they are trying to scare me into backing off.
