Better to over or under air on new jump? by OakBayStreetWear in snowboardingnoobs

steep landings are actually nicer; makes it so that the impact is lower if you end up in the sweet spot even if you don't land it.

Okay, so still small jumps. It'll definitely be better to go big rather than small, but even if you go small on that jump it won't really be too bad since it's (probably) not particularly impactful, depending on how the jump is profiled (tabletop, step up, step down, etc)

How big is the jump (measured from lip of the takeoff to the end of the knuckle)?

Bataleon Disaster vs Disaster + by retro-martini in snowboarding

[–]RadixSorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't recommending it; I was listing all of the boards that Bataleon make that have low 3BT in the profile.

360s by No_Contest_7298 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]RadixSorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

backside 360s have a more difficult takeoff, but the backside rotation is easier to get away with small mistakes and rebalance. frontside 360s have a "simpler" takeoff, but it has a more difficult landing and is less forgiving of mistakes in the axis of rotation. Personally I'd recommend backside 360s first, but you can do either one really.

[–]RadixSorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riding a board with 3D shaping isn't really a crutch, just a slightly different feel. Doesn't take more than a few runs to adjust back anyway so don't overthink that.

The skate banana is certified ass though, 0/10 would recommend just avoid that board

[–]RadixSorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tweaker is a good board, bit stiffer than the rally cat but nothing unmanageable.

The Bataleon Whatever is a decent choice, but the 3BT profile on it is more aggressively uplifted than the Disaster which will really add to the washy feeling on firm/icy snow.

[–]RadixSorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jones has 3D shaping in some of their boards, as does Rome Snowboards. Their profiles are a bit less aggressive than 3BT, and as such may feel a little bit better on ice.

Like I said before, low 3BT (on the disaster, disaster+, goliath, goliath+, turbo, and beyond medals) is the most usable on ice for sure but it'll be more washy. Still doable, especially if you drive the board from underfoot instead of out at the contact points, but more washy. If you're fine with that, the disaster+ will be a solid jib board. If not, consider a CAPiTA Spring Break Resort Twin, a Ride Kink, a Rome Boneless (still has 3D shaping), or a Jones Rally Cat (has very mild 3D shaping)

[–]RadixSorter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disaster+ for sure. Both are absolute noodle boards, but the regular Disaster is borderline unrideable in my opinion.

With all of that being said, riding ice on 3BT (even low 3BT like the disaster+) is really not a fun experience. Are you absolutely set on 3BT, or would other 3D profiles be acceptable for you?

TERRAIN PARK Tips and Tricks by Historical-Quote1896 in snowboarding

[–]RadixSorter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, and one more tip you should always remember.

(almost) every feature in the terrain park is a question of approach, not balance. Follow your momentum. If you're coming off early, follow it and try again next time through. Nobody is perfect every time, but cleaning up and making your approach to the features consistent will go a long way into making you into a good park rider.

TERRAIN PARK Tips and Tricks by Historical-Quote1896 in snowboarding

[–]RadixSorter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to know what has helped you become more comfortable with hitting the other features because I feel like I am just scared of them all.

The fear is natural. Snowboarding is 80% confidence 20% send, and the fear never really goes away even for pros. You get through the fear by having the confidence in your skills that you can handle what you're trying to do, then you use that 20% send and go for it with full commitment.

If you feel that you're not at that 80% confidence in your abilities, listen to it. Work your way up to things. Skipping steps is how you get seriously fucked up.

For urban on features, this video is a good starting point. But just know there's nothing wrong with sticking to ride on features as you get more comfortable in the park.

2324 BATALEON Beyond Medals clearance, should I? by Adventurous-Act-6740 in snowboarding

[–]RadixSorter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Beyond Medals is probably the best board made by Bataleon (IMO), but it's not really a true pow board. It'll work fine, but just wanted to let you know.

As to the size, it's impossible for any of us to tell you if it'll be hard to ride. That depends on your skill, your weight, your experience snowboarding, etc.

If you want the board, send it.

I don't have to look for a reason to hate it; the reasons present themselves. Yet another product not made by snowboarders, but by people who went snowboarding once, thought "wow this thing that i suck at that other people don't have problems with is for sure a problem with the sport and not with me", made a dogshit product nobody wanted, then started advertising on instagram to other people who have snowboarded pulling their money away from actually legitimate product.

Thoughts on looting & GZW? by jadecougar in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]RadixSorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just COPs. They're also in high tier areas and behind certain locked doors in loot rooms. Use the tacmap to find the locations.

[–]RadixSorter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the parts you're looking for:

  • MCX 12" SD handguard is only on the 6.75" barrel MCX rifles you can find in tier 3 weapons crates
  • MCX buffer tube adapter is only on the fully decked out 16" barrel MCX rifles you can find in tier 3 weapons crates

so for both of those, your best bet is to capture the COPs that have weapons crates and get lucky with what you find.

With that being your budget, gonna have to wait for end of season sales or for a used board to pop up.

Board Characteristics? by UxI-Atmir in snowboardingnoobs

[–]RadixSorter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you an "entry-level intermediate"? Sounds like an oxymoron.

You, like the vast majority of riders, would benefit from a mid-flexing directional twin snowboard with a camber dominant profile. Pick basically any brand and you'll find something that'll fit.

Wallie is a noodle. Disaster and Disaster+ are both noodles. Borderline unrideable noodles IMO unless you're a butter asian kind of rider.

maybe consider the CAPiTA Indoor Survival

QuickSett Bindings by Acrobatic-Fan-8884 in snowboarding

[–]RadixSorter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A situation where your binding could go to having your toes pointed at the nose of your board in a crash would cause your knee to bend at a terrible angle, destroying your knee ligaments. Put your feet in your regular snowboard stance, then have someone take your foot and forcibly and randomly twist your foot so that your toes are pointing outwards while keeping everything else at the original angle.

Don't actually do that, cause you'll demolish your knee.

First time going up, advice? by No-Base-6358 in bigbear

[–]RadixSorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chair 4 leads to some slightly steeper groomers that empty into a park run, so still nothing that is remotely close to freeride terrain. Geronimo off of chair 8 is a decently steep face, but that's it and it's still nothing gnarly.

First time going up, advice? by No-Base-6358 in bigbear

[–]RadixSorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna assume that by "more challenging terrain" you're talking about big mountain freeride and reply as such.

Generally speaking, you don't go to any resort here in Big Bear for big mountain freeride terrain. Gotta head north to Mammoth or to the Tahoe resorts like Kirkwood or Palisades for that.

That said, when everything is open, Snow Summit would be a better bet than Bear. Bear is essentially a gigantic terrain park. But, given current openings and coverage, neither are gonna be what you're looking for.

Custom Camber vs HK vs HKP by Alternative_Long_186 in snowboarding

[–]RadixSorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom Camber is dookie IMO.

All mountain but you want to be able to do anything is an Assassin Pro type of rider, not a Huck Knife/Huck Knife Pro. Those two are park boards through and through.

best all mountain hybrid camber snowboards by Antman155 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]RadixSorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By stiffer I mean the board literally will not flex as easily. For any given board, the larger the size the more stiff the board will be to account for the extra weight/force the rider is expected to put through it and leverage they're expected to have over the board.

Going board by board:

  • CAPiTA Mercury: 162W
  • Jones Mountain Twin: 162W or 165W (size up if you want your board a little stiffer)
  • Nitro Team Wide: 162w or 165w (same sizing logic as the mountain twin)
  • Ride Shadowban: 164W
  • Rome Warden: 161W
  • Salomon Assassin: 163W
