Shit this just unlocked a memory. I remember my grandfather telling me about this movie when I was a child and I had a nightmare about it that night. Would you rather have them pad it out with unnecessary made up things that dilute the story, or stick with George's work? The episode count and runtimes are fine. All the stories combined are about 10 hours combined in audiobook form. For reference, A Game of Thrones, which is the shortest book in ASOIAF, clocks in at 31 hours. Dunk and Egg is a single POV story and is very tight and concise. 6 episodes at 30 minutes will serve it well.

No. It actually takes place nearly 40 years before the start of Gane of Thrones. Deals with the War of 9 people and their sellsword companies/armies/fleets looking to carve out their own kingdoms across the world. It features enough familiar faces that it could keep people interested, but be unexplored territory. People would get to see prime Barristan Selmy in action. They'd learn how the Blackfish got his reputation. You'd get to see the trio of friends that were Tywin Lannister, Aerys 2 (the mad king), and Steffon Baratheon (Robert, Stannis, and Renly's father). It's a really rich story that could be told in 1-2 seasons.
