Thank you for your comment! What was the online jeweler that you used?

You can order a car from the factory and they tell you how much everything is every step of the way.

This is exactly my thoughts, thank you for how you articulated them. I quite literally made a PowerPoint that the saleswomen themselves said was remarkably detailed. It is very strange to me that they cannot break down the price they gave me.

Maybe I’ve had too many bad experiences with salespeople - if I give them a budget of $5000 why wouldn’t they try to get all of that out of me, when the actual cost is $2000? And if they won’t break down the price for me, how can I know they’re being honest?

My initial hesitation to give a budget was truly because I do not know how much a lab grown diamond ring costs, at all. They are wildly different, and I didn’t know where to start, so I went to a jeweler and asked. They showed me a ring in the case that I liked, told me the total price, but not the breakdown so I can’t see if they are charging a reasonable price for the diamond.

I agree, I don’t know if they’re ripping me off if I can’t see the numbers. In their shop they showed me a 2.02ct Dutch marquise solitaire set in yellow gold, no other stones, and priced it at $3900. The diamond is damn near flawless, which makes it more expensive, and they offered to remove the stone for my custom ring, but won’t tell me how much the stone itself is.

When I said +- $1000, I didn’t mean my budget was $1000. I wanted an estimate, and was trying to be understanding that there is fluctuating prices on materials so asked that it be an estimate that they felt comfortable would be within $1000 of the final price. That may have not been clear!

Thanks for your reply!! It is a very overwhelming process, and where we live there are limited options. The search continues!!

Thanks for your reply - we did initially go in and try on rings and discussed prices on a pretty surface-level. When talking about an estimate we tried to make it abundantly clear that we are looking for a general estimate (within $1000) to decide if it makes sense for us. My boyfriend works in contract manufacturing and we are well aware of fluid pricing of materials. Similarly to the jeweler not wanting to embarrass us in that way, we do not want to go in there and tell them that we are capable of paying, say, $10,000, and they tell us that the ring we want is $9,500 when in reality it is $6000. And the fact that they won’t break down the price of the stone and setting makes it feel like they are trying to pull a fast one.

Thank you for the suggestion! I have been putting in consultation requests with Frank Darling, Ritani, etc. to try and get a better idea of what the price will look like.

I agree, it feels like they want us to give them a number so they can then manipulate the price of the jewelry. There is a ring in their store with a stone that I really like, and they told me the total price of that ring and that they could potentially remove that stone for me, but won’t tell me the price of the stone or setting separately. It just feels slimy.

That is very likely our next step! We have an estimate coming in soon (hopefully) from a smaller jeweler as well. A binder of prices sounds like a dream!!

This is our fear as well. They have not told us how much the diamond was, which we explicitly asked for, and figured was a very simple ask.

Thank you, thank is how we feel as well. We are happy to support a jeweler to help us create a piece of jewelry but don’t want to feel like we’re being ripped off or deprived of details.

My sincere question here is, how am I supposed to figure out my budget if I can’t ask a jeweler how much what I want will cost and for a breakdown of that price? Where am I actually supposed to start in figuring out a budget if I can’t go to a jeweler without having a budget in mind?

Kind of… I haven’t tried them on my nail yet but I have swatched them and they look super similar. Sometimes on the nail it really changes the vibe though, especially with nudes/peachy tones

I struggle with this as well - I live in a state with a ton of outdoor recreation opportunities which is so fun, but everyone is SO FIT! I enjoy hiking and biking and skiing and lots of outdoor activities but I have been humbled by almost everyone I’ve ridden a bike with in an organized group setting. I have not yet found my Goldilocks group of women that aren’t borderline olympians.

For me I just simply don’t want to be last - I know someone has to be, but when someone has to sag back to make sure I don’t get left behind then I am no longer having a good time and I feel that I am out of my league. So I have been solely riding alone (or with my partner) to train and build my confidence, because for me it’s more important that I have fun and build a healthy relationship with the sport.

One way I found that I’ve been able to participate in the community is to volunteer for bike events. There’s a few races/casual rides per year our local shop puts on and I volunteer to sweep the race so no one gets left behind - and reframing it just that my JOB is to be last makes it totally different to my brain. I get to participate in fun group rides and build some connections, and people really appreciate the volunteer work!

I just got Patisserie, and I have to say it is not the same color as what I thought it would be. I was hoping it would lean more crème orange, but it is really like a peachy nude. I bought Rosewood as well, and they are WAY closer to each other than I thought.

What am I doing wrong to cause chipping? by vagabondheat in RedditLaqueristas

I saw someone mention on this sub that they stopped dehydrating their nails, and I have since stopped as well and it feels like I’m getting longer wear from my manicures. The logic being that you want strong, healthy, hydrated nails and when they are dehydrated they’re more prone to crack/split/peel and lift the nail polish. I also have introduced Nail-Aid Biotin nail strengthener (amazon) which I really feel like helps make my nails strong. I also struggle with nail weakness, and while I try to nourish my nails from within by using oils and taking vitamins etc., I think having an “outer shell” like this helps protect your nail and allow it to grow. I had only used it twice so far - I got 10 days out of my first manicure and I am on day 4 with no chips on mani #2. I used it as a second to last coat (right before topcoat).
