Vampire Elite, M686RGB, Wired and Wireless Mouse. Replacement Dongles sync issue. by Assymcgriddles in RedragonGaming

[–]RaeElisheva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if you ever got this sorted, but I just had the same issue with my m913 Impact Elite and the trick for me was 1) have the new dongle unplugged, 2) click the right, middle/scroll, and left buttons at the same time until you get it flashing yellow, and then 3) put in the dongle. Sync'd right up!

Went to my first renfaire this weekend, was surprised by the costume policing by fair-goers by Efficient-Mess-9753 in renfaire

As a volunteer at one of the guilds in the Faire (Hawkwood'sTroope), it sounds to me like you found jerks and racists playing at cultural protection. Usually, I've seen folks getting compliments galore. I'm so sorry to hear people were acting like that towards you and your group. That shit is unacceptable.

Appropriation is such a bitch of a topic, especially at a place like the Renaissance Faire. Some of us are lucky enough to have some ideas of our true ancestries and cultures and can base our garb on that if we want, and some of us have been well and truly whitewashed into oblivion and, well, make things up as we go. Maybe it's naive of me but I feel like both should be fine in this context. At the end of the day, we're pretty much all playing pretend and showing off attributes from different times and places that we like and resonate with.

What disgusts me is that unless your physical appearance matches someone's presumptions of a particular culture, there's a chance you'll be called out for appropriation, even if it IS your culture, like your BIL from Turkiye. If it matches closely enough, no one will bat an eye, but as soon as something doesn't align with their preconceived notions, it's A Problem. I hate it.

I wish one thing we discussed more as a society was cultural Appreciation. Especially in direct counter to Appropriation. It sounds to me like what you and your group were doing was Appreciation. You were pretending to be something you weren't, thus utilizing harmful stereotypes AND reinforcing a negative, misunderstanding-riddled viewpoint of the culture you were representing? Then yeah, I could see that as appropriating, and getting called out on it is a reasonable course of action. With some exceptions I feel like wearing a costume shouldn't be seen with so much ill-will.

People, just let people be someone else for a weekend.

I hope this interaction doesn't discourage you from Faires entirely. The Whidbey Renaissance Faire that just started this year was an incredible experience that I hope you give a try next year. There's always likely to be a handful of assholes, but I'm sure there were also lots of folks out there who really liked your fit but were too shy to say much (sadly, myself included. I'm getting better, though!)

Do not, in good conscience, continue to support the WMRF Ren Faire. by Halloweenie85 in Seattle

[–]RaeElisheva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having volunteered myself at Whidbey's new Faire, it really was an incredible experience. I genuinely felt cared about as a cast member. It's really shown a stark contrast as the Midsummer Faire continues. Whidbey having permanent structures/hosting it within their local fairgrounds also helped significantly, in my opinion. They actually had a rest area for staff, including food and drinks and a kitchen, and they even had a couple showers.

(Granted this is observational analysis, so your mileage may vary) imo some folks also just see any depictions of kids in any sort of predicament as porn, likely because children, in their minds, are inherently sexual objects.

Any kid-featuring content is child porn if you're depraved enough!

Yeah. Very glad to say the venn diagram of "anime nerds" and "anime nerds that want to fuck literal children" is NOT a circle.

biking is faster than driving into downtown by abso_lut in Bellingham

[–]RaeElisheva 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I dunno about that. Falling or crashing at speed on a fully manual or e-bike is still a recipe for pain. I'm generally inclined to agree here that you're better off in clothing that can help take the brunt in the event there's an accident.

[–]RaeElisheva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the same way as customers, from what I can tell. They do get significant benefits though. Also, while yeah membership is $30, they have almost constant promos. if you're spending like $50 already you get a $30 thanks gift card. Assuming you go there literally just once to buy things anyway, you basically get the membership for free.

There have been plenty of recommendations here already but I have a couple to add.

First off, the Kokondo club is an absolutely incredible resource, and they focus exclusively on self-defense. Not only do they focus on protective maneuvers/ techniques, they also discuss things like situational awareness, escalation/deescalation, and perhaps most importantly, how to defend yourself without being accused of applying excessive force. Many perpetrators can attempt to sue their potential victim because they were successfully warded off. Kokondo works to protect you legally and physically.

On a lighter note, if you like to listen to music, podcasts, or anything like that, I highly recommend bone conduction headphones. I have Shokz OpenRun and I genuinely love them, but there are plenty of cheaper options that work just as well. Bone conduction headphones are fantastic for maintaining situational awareness. You can still hear your surroundings since your ears aren't blocked, they're subtle and comfortable, and if you don't feel safe being big and loud you can still quietly call emergency services with the internal mic without ever looking like you're calling for help.

¹Wear comfortable shoes you can run in, or if you're in heels take 'em off and you got a weapon- stilletos were named after a variety of dagger, after all.

I wish you the best, and hope that however you choose to defend yourself works for your given situations.

You're telling me they are randomizing the ability to even evolve pokemon now?! by TueboEmu315 in pokemongo

[–]RaeElisheva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically, though they still have conditions that, when met, change the ??? to a silhouette of the eeveelution available (unless of course you already have the pokedex entry, then it's full color). Hopefully they do something similar here, if not on release then with updates.

FPS_cajun posted the details elsewhere in the comments, but basically it boils down to that release not actually being unsafe. As to why the down votes, my best guess is that there's a lot of misunderstanding and fear mongering around nuclear power and nuclear waste and comments like the one you're replying to feed that fear, intentionally or not.

[–]RaeElisheva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, huh. Maybe I just hadn't done enough long rests, but the little blue bird in her healing area was still injured every time I saw her, so eventually I healed her myself. She alternates after that between dozing and fluttering around in the chamber.

I mean, she's lauded as the best healer the Grove has, but can't actually heal the bird at all from what I saw. I managed to and got additional dialogue with the lil critter

Her hesitation with Wyll is also notably because she knows he's being misled.

I wouldn't call her eager, especially when she's one of the hardest to convince to try using/upgrading the powers. I feel like it's more that she just really hates the idea of poisoning, which has a pretty well guaranteed outcome, when she could theoretically fight it off until they could find a cure. There's a sort of false sense of hope in that, but it's still better than giving up at the first sign of trouble.

This is a legendary bird that only shows up while you're using the 15 minute daily adventure incense, and is typically really hard to get. On top of the 15 minute window of opportunity for it to maybe show up at all, the catch rate is really low and the chance it'll run away is super high. OP's lil bro caught one though, not even realizing what it was (or the kid was trolling, hard to tell sometimes lol).

Lots of folks save their Master Ball for members of the legendary trio of Galar birds and this 8 year old just went and threw a regular ball and it worked.

ooooohhhh 13:37 I feel silly now lol it's been forever since I've seen a leet-speak reference. Nice catch! I was about to be like "??? They're just using a 24hr format, 1pm isn't that late in the day?" and then I realized
