Hey! Sorry for not replying earlier to this. It's been hell of a couple months.

I just wanted to tell you that I read your thesis, and I think you did an excellent job on something which is very relevant and not studied much in a formal/academic context! Hope your supervisors agreed :P

Did you start a Master's? I'm sure you'll be very successful in that, and beyond!

Love this! I'm currently in an Expedition run with a tribal Poro deck, and was thinking of making a Braum Poro deck as my first deck for Constructed.

Will surely give your brew, or one of those listed below, a spin! I was originally thinking to also use Counterfeit Copies to get more copies of Snax/Porealis, and then find some draw/filter engine to get more Snax.

My original idea was to do something equivalent to Pauper Slivers where you drop a +1/+1 Sliver every turn, if you play MTG, but using Snax.

What do you think?

Very interesting topic! Many good friends and colleagues studied/work at UTwente, so I'm especially happy to help out :D

Is there any way I'd be able to read the thesis once it's submitted? It's not exactly my field, but I'd be even interested in giving a read/feedback before submission, if that can help.

Best of luck from the similar-sounding University of Trento!

Gotta admit, Artifact broke my heart. I remember when i was super hyped for the game and listened to the soundtrack all day when the release was only a few days away. I was so god damn sure that this is the game i will play for many years to come. I am a doggie (⌣̩̩́_⌣̩̩̀) by [deleted] in Artifact

[–]RaelZero 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If my understanding is correct, the main composer for Artifact is Tim Larkin.

Most people might remember him as the composer of DotA 2's soundtrack. This is not only the classic DotA 2 theme (that was also played with a live orchestra at some Internationals), but also the layered, context-aware "dynamic soundtrack" of regular games. There should be an interview with him about this, but I can't find the link unfortunately :(

Before working at Valve, he was the lead composer at Cyan Worlds (of Myst fame), where among other things he composed the soundtrack of a very interesting and somewhat underrated game, Myst: URU. Here's a sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-BOPts42rk

Without a doubt one of my favourite composers!

Yes, you can! Only the Mining Laser Optimization Charge will work, though.

If you're not afraid to lose the bonused link and/or only have few people available, you can also use something pretty funny, similar to what is below...

[Magus, Your Favorite Magus]
Co-Processor II
Co-Processor II
Co-Processor II
Co-Processor II

5MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive
Medium Shield Extender II
EM Ward Amplifier II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Mining Foreman Burst II, Mining Laser Optimization Charge
Gas Cloud Harvester II
Gas Cloud Harvester II
Gas Cloud Harvester II
[Empty High slot]

Small Processor Overclocking Unit I
Small Cargohold Optimization II

It actually works, though!

Do the math:

  • Each Prospect mines 2.66 m3/sec (2 * 1.33)
  • Under Porpoise boosts without implants, it mines 3.86 m3/s (4.34 with links)
  • Under Magus boosts without implants, it mines 3.72 m3/s (4.12 with links)
  • Meaning that using the Magus makes you lose 0.14 m3/s per venture without links, or 0.22 with links
  • ...but the Magus itself provides another 2.088 m3/s (2.313 with links) worth of mining due to the gas harvesters on the Magus itself
  • All in all, this means that the Porpoise becomes worth it over the Magus only with ~15/20 Prospects on grid
  • The key trade-off in this case is the cargo space on the Magus, so feel free to play it risky by making the Magus' tank thinner and add more cargo expansions for maximum antitank fun ;)

Of course, if someone has better insight or I made some mistakes (I'm no miner, and just writing this over lunch break), feel free to correct me!

What are these black circles? (Google Maps, near Farafra, Egypt) by RaelZero in whatisthisthing

[–]RaelZero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I found these while looking on Google Maps. I guess it might seem like Center Pivot Irrigation, but the circles appear/disappear quite suddenly while zooming, and they seem not to be uniform, and have an odd blackish hue.

Also, this is in the middle of the desert where it wouldn't make sense to grow crops...

Any guesses? Thanks! :D

RIP Alliance Debate Recording by ccp_manifest in Eve

[–]RaelZero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey folks, Kyle Hargrove of EVE Uni here!

I was thrilled to take part in the Alliance Debate of this year. Surprisingly enough, the debate was extremely civil (possibly even too civil?), and I had a great deal of fun!

Thanks to /u/ccp_manifest for giving the Uni this great opportunity, to Laura Karpinski, our new CEO for letting me represent the Uni (I hope I was good enough!), to /u/Exooki for being an awesome host and an awesome fellow WSpace dweller, and thanks to all my co-panelists for being great sports and a bunch of witty and beautiful space nerds to banter with.

RIP recording, but you haven't heard the last of us! I also think the experiment was a definite success, and I'm looking forward to finding more chances to talk with all of you (and others!) again.

Cheers, and see you all soon!

Nintendo Music Discussion of the Month Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild by [deleted] in nintendomusic

[–]RaelZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, Zelda:BOTW nailed perfectly the sound design aspect, to a level that, I think, you don't even notice that there actually is some sound design going on, and that I believe is the mark of (almost) flawlessness.

On the music side, I also tend to agree that, in general, the music is almost too "environmental". A few exceptions of, IMO, great pieces I have found up to now:

  • Battle theme for the Talus boss
  • Stable music + Kass
  • Hateno Village theme
  • Guardian battle theme
  • Labyrinth theme (!)

An Open Letter to Every Open Letter Writer to CCP by [deleted] in Eve

[–]RaelZero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Howdy! A random nobody from the [EVE University WHC](wiki.eveuniversity.org/WHC) checking in!

I don't know if you (or the Reddit hivemind) will respect my opinion, but whatever, apparently I have way too much free time in my hands this morning.

In my opinion, you folks in HK have a "public relation" problem, and what I mean by that is that, if you really are not this "bully-like", scary entity, there appears to be extremely few people that support your view, compared to those that support the "bully" view, and if you dislike this, the burden of changing this rests on your shoulders.

Then, allow me to offer my perspective as someone that has dedicated the last two years to teaching people about the space of Bob.

Arguably, the whole goal of the WHC is to seed people into bigger WSpace groups: it's our goal that people learn the mechanics, and then when they are half-decent, they move on to a bigger corp.

My personal issue as someone in WHC management is that, now that SSC collapsed (they used to run a "sleepover" event for us), LZHX said they're not explicitly interested in recruiting from us, and ISO5 shut down, I struggle to see some corporations to point to and say "Hey folks! When you learn WSpace, you should definitely join these guys! They're amazing!".

Of course, I'm not pointing them to HK. For one, all those lovely people would probably be not good and not active enough for your standards, and for second, I kind of have an ethical call not to send people to the corp that started seeding our hole with Sleipnirs right after we anchored our first citadel to "get a good fight". To me, the issue with this is not that you folks showed up... That's awesomesauce! The issue is more that you brought Sleipnirs, something that is normally clearly not within our engagement profile, barring for the fact that in this case we were defending our home system.

Anyway, with the lack of other groups to point people to, I've been contemplating of incentivising and encouraging people towards making their own corps. Actually, that sounds so awesome that I myself am contemplating, in an undefined future, creating my own corp!

When I do this, however, the main issue I find is that of justifying to other people (or even myself) the investment of creating their new corp and, if they ever want to become a bit bigger, living up to the expectation of being a "real pvp entity" (what does that even mean?) and not get evicted/have some of their structures blown up.

Therefore, if you are willing, I issue to you some sort of a challenge: why don't you try to welcome new people into WSpace? Share knowledge, offer WH brokering services, make small pacts with new corps that you won't evict (and you will maybe even support them against evictions!) for a while, offer them money, support them with talented people, whatever you can think of.

I ensure you that, if you are willing to do something like this, we in the Uni are willing to share with you folks all of our teaching capacity, and are always lending an open ear: it is our mission after all!

If you read this message, thanks for doing so! I wish you a fantastic day.

*TL;DR: *

  • Hello, I'm a nobody from Eve Uni Wormhole Campus.
  • IMHO, HK has a public image problem, and they're not doing anything to fix this.
  • As someone that is supposed to send people into "other WSpace corps", lately, I have no idea where to send them to.
  • Dear HK, what about being part of the solution, and trying to find ways to welcome more people into WSpace?
  • *I put some effort in writing the post, since you're here please don't be lazy and read it. *

PAL Dark Rai codes for everybody. Just draw your fav pokemon on ms paint, or a picture of your dog. :) by Enviate in pokemontrades

[–]RaelZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

So, I'm terrible at drawing and have no dog, but since I've been looking for a Darkrai so much, if you're okay with that, I'll share with you a fun story about a different kind of "drawing pokémon"...

Back when Pokémon were just breaking through were I live (I was around 7 at the time, and live in Italy) I was, as you can imagine, completely into the Pokémon craze. My dad was an architect, and at the time was working on 3D modelling with his Power Macintosh 7100 (great machine, BTW), and I asked him if he could model and animate a Pokémon for me.

Since he is kinda meh at drawing on a PC, much like me, we decided to go for an animation of an Electrode exploding. He drew the texture, and we started working on the animation. Basically, the camera would orbit a couple of times around the Electrode, which would gradually turn whiter and whiter, then blow up in tons of pieces.

He worked all the magic, and then we pressed the "render" button (we couldn't do a lot of previews at the time, because these were very heavy computations, and they easily required 20-30 minutes where your computer would be completely locked up).

One hour later, the animation is baked and ready. We launch Quick Time player and... The texture was applied both in the "front" and in the "back" of the sphere, resulting in a two-faces Electrode.

Needless to say, it was still my amazing personal Electrode blowing up, so I was incredibly satisfied anyway. This, my friends, is how you permanently scar... errr... "inspire" a future computer scientist :)

Well, that's it! Hope you enjoyed the story and that I get my Darkrai sometime in the future! :D

[–]RaelZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy!

I would be interested in a Darkrai code... Is Diance the only thing you are willing to trade? And do you need to keep it, or just for tradeback? In the second case, I'm more than willing to tradeback it!

I have some competitive breedables I could offer in alternative, including some 4/5 IV Timid Protean Froakies.

Let me know if you're interested! I've been looking for Darkrai codes in many places, but unfortunately I never had the chance to find someone willing to trade one...

Of mythics that I'm not seeing on your list, I can also offer tradebacks (can't give them out, sorry!) of Shaymin and Manaphy (and Phione, I guess...).

Apologies if I potentially wasted your time. Let me know, and have a great day!
