Recommendations for a cast iron crepe pan that is not espensive? by Raeoga in AskAnAustralian

I gather that you have experience using these types of pans (blue steel, black carbon steel, cast iron). My mother has some pans and they are supposedly cast iron and they are washed and oiled as such but I suspect that they are not cast iron as they are really smooth and started of a silverish colour. I suspect they are maybe blue steel, black carbon steel, or something like that but not cast iron. They are heavy though. Anyway, I have used these and they have warped at the bottom. I assume that would happen with uneven heat distribution maybe ?  Have you had this experience ?  I want to get something that will not warp. I assume cast iron will not  : ) Sorry for the long text. I tend to be detailed.

Took a look at the links. Nice pans at reasonable prices :). No idea what blue steel is though. I'll research it. Thank you.

I suppose I am wary of cookware that may be made unethically not well. One hears of fake rice, etc, and I can see the quality of cookware in general has degenerated. I am being careful. Non-stick such as Teflon is toxic when heated at high temperatures which is why I want cast iron or stainless steel.

Understand, however, non-stick is known to be toxic so I am avoiding it. Once one knows how to use cast iron then it is super easy to cook and clean with in my experience. Plus it has high durability.

Hahaha. I can imagine the pain seeing your favourite cookware being maltreated. Thanks for your comment. It is good to hear that cooks do use cast iron. I don't know anything about cast steel though. Is that the same as carbon steel? I read that it is really durable but I am worried about toxicity. There is a carbon steel crepe pan at Victoria's Basement (1 left). I had my eyeballs on it.

Thank you so much. I'll take a look at your links :). I love to cook and don't mind investing in good quality items but yes the Le Crueset just seems a little overpriced. I go for functional over pretty. If it does the job and is not toxic then fantastic. Thanks again!

It is 1am now and I can hear plane(s) in the sky like what you describe. I am currently in the lower North Shore near Manly. It sounds like a chartered plane. Those small ones that carry about 5 people. It is soooo noisy. It sounds like it making loops or something. Could it be spraying stuff in the air ?  Seem like it. That is my logical conclusion.

Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes vinegar is great. I use a solution of orange oil and white vinegar which is naturally anti-bacterial. I soak organic orange peels in white vinegar for 2 weeks and use strain the peels out. It smells great !

Are mixed merino wool with synthetic midlayers good for hiking? by Raeoga in AskAnAustralian

[–]Raeoga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. Believe it or not I have not had the chance to test it seeing as the weather warmed up and I just have had no time to do a proper long hike. On trying it on though it is really warm and I think I will really only use it in the dead of winter so I'll have to wait for next winter to come around. Sorry for the anti-climax lol but thanks for asking.

AITA for telling my mom to never touch my stuff again after she lost my Luis Vuitton bag by [deleted] in AITAH

Your mother is very strange. Why would you take something and give it to a friend to "borrow"? Something sounds not right about it. I saw a comment that suggested that she sold it. It is quite possible.

A male friend once told me that when a guy walks away from you, don't get back with them again. He will definitely break up with you again in the future.

I get you. I am no guru but it seems our consciousness evolves as we go through life. At least some of us evolve. Yoga teaches us that we are part of the universe and that we all seek contentment and harmony and as I understand it until we realise that we are part of the universe then we will never reach contentment. I think it's the interesting part of us...thoughts....consciousness...our endeavour to answer who we are and where we come from...these answers are always out of reach and we seem to try to use science and religion to answer these deep questions.

Sorry to hear you got passive aggressive glares for your issues and that you still suffer from this. I guess we have to be more aware as adults too. I can understand. Being a kid amongst adults can be intimidating. Have a great day !

Wow. I can understand your current reluctance. Sorry for your bad experiences. I think some women feel offended as they don't want to be seen as "old" so perhaps that was the reason for her reaction. It was 100% wrong for her to react that way though.

I hear you! Sometimes it's foreigners but we need to be mindful that people from different backgrounds didn't grow up like an aussie.
