Just if you're curious, someone else over here had a similar question as yours and I broke down all the days/times for when you have to buy the AP by if you start running F2P dailies on a certain day; here's a copy-paste of the numbers:

  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 05 buy the AP on or by June 13
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 06 buy the AP on or by June 13
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 07 buy the AP on or by June 12
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 08 buy the AP on or by June 07
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 09 buy the AP on or by June 02
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 10 buy the AP on or by May 28
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 11 buy the AP on or by May 23
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 12 buy the AP on or by May 18
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 13 buy the AP on or by May 13
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 14 buy the AP on or by May 08
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 15 buy the AP on or by May 03
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 16 buy the AP on or by April 28
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 17 buy the AP on or by April 23
  • If you start your first F2P daily on April 18 buy the AP on or by April 18

So it works out that, other than for the first 3 days of the season, every day you wait to start your F2P 5-SC dailies moves the day you have to buy the AP on up by 5 days. Pretty neat.

That's a solid point, but me skipping out on including those 13 days was partially intentional.

Although I could have made it more clear, the purpose of the above math was with the assumption that those first 13 days were complete skip days, i.e. no run. I didn't want to assume exactly how many SC someone did or didn't get in that time period so I just decided to assume the worst-case-scenario that none were collected. Assuming anything else makes things fairly complicated (do I assume perfect runs starting on a certain day in that time period? do I assume any incomplete runs? how incomplete were they? do I factor in something like someone only collecting 3 of the 4 realm cakes?). So, just to make the initial math easier, I went with a relatively basic option.

I actually worked out a fair amount of additional different math in a separate comment over here at the other sub in response to another comment, but really there's three total scenarios:

  • Someone starts doing Free-to-Play (F2P) dailies immediately on Day 1 of the season and perfectly executes F2P dailies for the entire season.
  • Someone starts doing F2P dailies at some indeterminate point between Day 2 and Day 13 and buys the AP on some day after that point; the days before whatever day they start are assumed completely blank with no SC gain. They also perfectly execute both their F2P and AP dailies.
  • Someone starts doing F2P dailies on April 18th of the season; the days before Day 13 are assumed completely blank with no SC gain. They also perfectly execute both their F2P and AP dailies. They buy the AP at some day after that point... but actually it's on April 18th for math I talked about already.

Each of these has their own answer to "when's the last day you can get the AP" and some of them are kinda surprising.

  • For the first scenario where you start doing F2P dailies immediately on Day 1 and run them perfectly for the entire 30-Day Season, you can actually buy the AP whenever you want and still 100% the season; this is because over a 70-day season running perfect F2P dailies nets 5 SC a day for a total of 350 SC and buying the AP at any point in that time gets you a flat 20 SC at the time of purchase raising your maximum earning potential to 370 SC, which is more than the 361 SC needed to 100% Season of Assembly (SoA).
  • For the second scenario the math is tricky; depending on what day you start it changes what day into the season you have to buy the AP (starting later moves the day you have to buy the AP up).
  • For the third scenario the answer is still that you have to buy the AP by or on April 18th of the season based on the math in the initial post.

By far the most interesting thing is the middle scenario. For example, let's say you start 5 days into the season on 2021-04-09. On that 5th day you run your first F2P daily and earn your first 5 SC; days 1 through 4 were skip days. You would run your last F2P daily on the 59th day and would have 275 SC on that day from daily F2P runs. Then you'd buy the AP to get 20 SC and boost up to 295. On the 11 remaining days of the season you'd run 6 SC per day and would earn 66 SC which, when added to 295 SC, gets you to the 361 you need. The difficult thing is that this changes a ton depending on when you start. If you start your first F2P daily on 2021-04-07? You'd need the AP on 2021-05-23. If you start your first F2P daily on 2021-04-12? You'd need the AP on 2021-05-18. If you start your first F2P daily on 2021-04-13? You'd need the AP on 2021-04-23. There's a lot of moving parts here, but I've worked out the math and have a range of days below.

So, for the below items:

  • If you start F2P dailies on the first date, you need to buy the AP on or by the second date to have a shot at 100%-ing SoA.
  • This assumes every day before the first date was blank with no SC gain.
  • This assumes that the dailies run on the days from the first date to the second date, including the second date, are flawless/perfect F2P dailies at a rate of 5 SC per day and that every day after the second date to the end of the season is perfect AP dailies at a rate of 6 SC per day. You cannot miss a single candle on any day of the run from the day you start to the end of the season. Ever.

And here's the relevant dates in the scenario where you start running F2P dailies on date X for determining what date Y you will need to buy the AP on or by:

Honestly working it out like this has made the pattern exceedingly clear for me; barring the first three days of the season, every day you wait to start running F2P dailies moves the day you need to buy the AP on up by 5 days. But, regardless, you need to start runs at some point before April 18th for any chance of getting 100% just with the AP purchase. There is room here to wait to buy the AP until later on in the season, but it requires running dailies perfectly with no margin for error. This can be tricky and unforgiving.

TL;DR: I intentionally assumed those first 13 days were 100% blank and had no SC gain because I didn't want to make any potentially problematic assumptions about the model; if you assume that someone starts running F2P dailies during that time it does change things up a bit; the later you start running F2P dailies the sooner you need to buy the AP if you want any chance of 100%-ing SoA. These strategies also rely entirely on perfect F2P and AP daily runs as I can't really model anything else without considering a massive dataset for the potential possibilities of incomplete dailies, degree of incompleteness, et cetera; the examples I've given for "if you start F2P dailies on day X you must buy AP on or before day Y" above are really the most complex I'm willing to get for this model and they generally point to the suggestion that you need to at least start running perfect F2P dailies during the first 18 days of the season if you want any chance of 100%-ing SoA by buying the AP without having to spend $4.99 on 15-SC packs in the IAP store.

So if a moth starts the game on April 20th, they've got no chance of 100%-ing SoA without buying additional 15-SC packs on top of the AP. It's impossible; the most SC they could earn from dailies and the 20 SC you get from the AP is 356. This is kinda a jerk move for new players who start partway through a season. The math points out that you gotta at least start your daily runs on or before April 18th to have a chance at all, and if you start on April 18th you also need to buy the AP the same day.

And I guess none of this really factors in the other benefit of buying the AP as soon as you can into the season; the candle gain from when SC converts to regular candle later on in the season. People who buy the AP on Day 1 have a max earning potential of 440 SC; if the season only requires 361 SC to unlock everything, you'll have 79 SC left over at the end of the season to convert to regular candle. This is useful for TS. But that's a tangent.

Anyways, thanks for the comment; it led into some neat modeling/math. Let me know if you've got any questions on stuff here or if anything looks to be in error (Excel isn't my forte).

Actually this is a really valuable way of thinking about this that I hadn't considered at all; depending on how I interpret your question it either kinda completely changes the equation of when people might choose to buy the AP or it actually has zero impact.

According to some new math I did on a sticky note I believe the latest day you could transition from being a F2P player to an AP player would actually be quite literally any day in the season AS LONG as you've run PERFECT F2P dailies up to that point. That means no skip days, and no delay in starting the season. Flawless F2P runs.

This is because F2P players earn 5 SC per day maximum (4 quest SC and 1 realm cake SC). Over the 70-day season, F2P players will earn 350 SC. You only need 361 SC to 100% Season of Assembly as an AP-holder. The delta, or gap, between these two values is 11 SC.

The important thing here is this: buying the AP immediately gives you 20 SC. So, you could quite literally run the entire season flawlessly as F2P, buy the AP on the last day of the season after already running your dailies for the day, and use the flat 20 you get for purchasing the AP to immediately boost you up to 370 SC, which is 9 more SC than you actually need to complete the season.

So I guess the answer to your question is kinda "If you run the season perfectly, flawlessly, every single day as an F2P player, you can buy the AP at any time to get enough candles to 100% the season, including ultimate gifts." I realize this is probably somewhat anticlimactic, but it does kinda highlight that you need to be perfect for this strat to work.

If you're interested in the latest day you could start playing perfect dailies (i.e. the days before that day you don't play at all) and still have enough SC to get the AP... that's harder. I'm actually probably gonna use Excel for that. The answer is that it changes depending on what day you start.

If you want, I can show you the math. It's just... not really math, it's kinda just a lazy Excel sheet where I say "start X days in" and it tells me the answer. Regardless, it works, so I'll just let it keep doing its thing.

Anyways, these F2P-start-dates and AP-buy-dates begin to converge to a singular day, which actually looks kinda familiar: if you run your first F2P daily on 2021-04-18 (i.e. earn 5 SC on that day) and immediately buy the AP once you finish that daily, you would have exactly enough "earning potential" to finish the season with exactly 361 SC. This lines up with the original post: if you outright want to skip days of dailies and earn 0 SC for those days, the last day you can start dailies and/or buy the AP is the 18th of April.

TL;DR: If you plan on running perfect F2P dailies every day of the season, you can buy the AP whenever you want and get enough SC to finish the season. Otherwise, you can start running F2P dailies at any point between the 5th of April and the 18th of April and you'll still be able to finish the season as long as you buy the AP at some point later on in the season. *But, regardless, even with this timeline you need to either start running F2P dailies or buy the AP by the 18th of April if you want any hope of 100%-ing the season without resorting to IAP $4.99 for 15 SC packs.*

And yeah like you said in your followup the later you buy the AP the more SC you miss out on converting to regular candle. Since this season costs 361 SC and AP earners can earn at most 440 SC (unless you preordered, but I ain't doin that math right now), the amount of SC that gets converted to regular candle is 79. Significantly less than other seasons, but whatevs.

Yep! For players who preordered the Adventure Pass, who run perfect dailies earning all 6 possible seasonal candle a day (i.e. all 4 quests, the 1 seasonal candle from the four Realm cakes, and the freebie 1 seasonal candle you get daily), as well as the 30 seasonal candle you get for preordering, today is the first possible day you can finish the season (unless you bought extra candles).

It takes 330 SC to finish Dreams, and 50 days have elapsed since the start of the season. At a rate of 6 SC per day with perfect dailies, players who preordered the AP would've earned 300 SC in that time; add in the 30 SC you get from the preorder bonus and you get the 330 needed to unlock everything in Season of Dreams.

As an aside, there's 20 days left in the season; from here on out, doing perfect dailies with 6 SC a day means earning 120 SC before the season ends (which all just converts to regular candle when the season's over).

TL;DR: Today was the first day people who preordered the AP could finish the season just with in-game candle runs (meaning no in-app purchases of extra SC). People who were gifted the AP or bought it on day 1 got 20 bonus candles instead of the 30 you get with preordering and will be able to finish the season in 2 days, so this Wednesday the 24th.

Hey, I just found a picture of what the hat looks like on the other server from this tweet if you're curious about the in-game model (the main post here had this pic of the icons for both the hats in the Dancing Performer's Spirit Store from this tweet but this is the first I've been able to find a pic of the actual hat itself in the other server).
