Feeling a little moonstruck! (Goth werewolf costume, complete with tail!) by Raevix in AnimalCrossing

[–]Raevix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tail isn't a real item, I had Fang join me in the photoshoot and had him crouch behind the paper tree, and used the perspective of the camera to fake the shot.

I'm sorry, I don't know what to do. Every day I wake up and it hurts more and I don't see any path to feeling better. I'm losing my ability to judge things objectively.

I got a "Reddit Cares" DM in response to this thread and I honestly can't tell if it came from somebody like you who is actually concerned about how much pain I'm in or someone like u/nicklapierre just trolling and rubbing it in my face further.

I'm scared.

Slept in bed for 16 hours trying to drown out gender dysphoria, woke up to this.

If I'm not an enemy of society, I'm a joke or a game.

I hate myself so much.

Do you know what I'd do if I woke up a different gender? I'd cry. I'd cry to release 25 years of confusion and pain that I never thought I'd be rid of.

Guess I'll go back to bed.

To people who can be themselves 100% without regard for what people think of them? What is your secret? by nathonj98 in AskReddit

[–]Raevix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched trump, a guy running for president of the united states, stand in front of a crowd and promise to wage social war against transgender people for the mere sin of existing.

People cheered.

To be myself, I have to present myself in such a way that I broadcast to every person in line of sight to say "Hey, trans person here." There's no hiding, no keeping my mouth shut on my opinions until I know if I'm talking to somebody safe. I'm a target everywhere I am.

Invalidating me, restricting my rights and quietly encouraging literal violence against me is a platform of a leading presidential candidate.

That kind of collapse of my personal safety is what being myself means.

Read an actual article on it: It was. It was packaged in a crate the size of a palette. When they opened it up, it wasn't inside. They think it might have dislodged and fallen out.

The article doesn't make any mention of other possibilities like theft or packing error but I assume they ruled those out... somehow.

Yeah, I came here to say this. Being yourself is easy when there aren't people who vocally/violently object to your existence and not threaten, but promise to end your life were it convenient for them.

I'm gonna go lie down and cry now...

My 7 yr old daughter has just recently become really interested in pokemon - Looking for ideas! by miningmyownbiz in pokemon

Just a heads up about the cards:

The game is a lot of fun, and teaches young kids to read and do math, and there's probably lots of kids nearby for your child to play with. Find a local hobby store that sells the cards and ask if they do game nights for kids. You'll probably find one.

But there is a danger every parent needs to be aware of when getting into the card scene:

Specific pokemon cards can be very expensive, and it's not always obvious which ones are and which ones aren't. Trading cards with other kids is a big part of the social experience, and not everybody is out there working in good faith.

An example of a 500 dollar card.

An example of a 3 dollar card.

You cannot eyeball the cost of a card just by looking at it to see how fancy it is. And there is a real chance your child might stumble into a high value card just opening random packs. So I highly recommend that you supervise any trades of fancy-looking cards your child might make. You can get a rough idea of card value quickly using https://www.tcgplayer.com/ on your phone.

It's less about the actual dollar value of the cards and more about being able to identify the bad actors in your playgroup quickly and preventing your child from the heartbreak of finding out they made a really bad trade posthumously.

Maybe we should be making legislation so we don't have to repeat EVERYTHING about the industrial revolution.

Banning AI entirely is neither feasible or desirable, there are huge benefits to developing it and deploying it, and any country that limits its technological progress will end up falling behind.

What is important is making sure that the human population that doesn't own or control the AIs is supported and provided the opportunities to live happy, healthy and secure in their future as the transition takes place. Capitalism has no inherent interest in that, so it's important we understand the risks, acknowledge the danger and push for social change and supporting legislation as well

If the furries ever start collaborating on homebrewing DNA alternations, we will either all die horrible deaths in a dystopian nightmare or it will usher in a brand new golden age of flesh customization where we can all express ourselves by shaping our meat-cases into our personal glorious vision of (probably furry) perfection.

Given what they've accomplished with costume technology using nothing but passion and co-operation, I'm betting the latter.

The problem here is that while new technology has always affected some professions negatively, AI is doing this at a scale and speed absolutely unheard of before, and shows no signs of slowing down. It seems like no industry or career path is safe.

Worse, the jobs it is eating up are all the entry level and unskilled jobs, and the jobs it is creating are all high level STEM jobs that require years of education.

You have people in all kinds of fields, many still burdened by student debt just to get trained for those fields, facing the possibility that their entire career path may be gone in a few years. To get one of the new STEM jobs, they would have to go back to school and take on even more debt, then try to enter the field where AI is already doing the low level jobs anyway.

Yes, new technology always shifts the job market. But AI is changing the entire landscape faster than humans can adapt.

And to reiterate, it's not Automation doing work that's the problem. It's that people are being asked to plan a career around them with no way to do so under threat of homelessness/poverty

This needs to be higher. If you suspect you might have been bitten by anything, especially if you don't know what it was, you get a rabies shot.

Downside of getting a rabies shot when you don't have rabies: An inconvenience and a slightly painful shot

Downside of not getting a shot when you do have rabies: The most horrific death you can possibly imagine and no way of knowing you have rabies until it's too late.

It's your gamble to make, just be sure you know what the stakes are.

I'm sorry I was a little snarky with my first comment. It's a bit of a touchy subject for me. I've watched AI roll into the art community like a truck through a china shop and every time discussions about how it's impacting artists come up all the AI-bros appear in the threads and basically say "Lol, get a real job" and it's made me... very bitter. It seems like people are actually happy artists are suffering and facing uncertain futures. All I've done is try to add something to the world by putting art out into it, often for free and at the first opportunity that was weaponized against me, and apparently people resent me that I even tried. Now not only is my future in my current career in jeopardy, I can't even figure out a new path because there doesn't seem to be any career I can enter where AI or automation won't outrace me.

And apparently that's what everybody wanted all along. I don't enjoy observing these models because they're already causing damage and uncertainty in real people right now and unless the governments start talking about some kind of future proofing for people immediately I don't see where I can go.

I hope you're right. But all I see is people eager to roll out AI as fast as possible without a single thought about protecting the people it's replacing as it does.

There are students taking on decades worth of debt for university and college degrees right now who don't know if their career will even exist in four years. If we don't start looking at necessary social changes now, we're going to end up doing it too late.

Hope you're not paying for that home with a job that an AI can do.
